Abstract

Having friends can reduce the negative effects of stressful experiences such as facing your thesis.Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is uncertain whether friendship quality possessed by studentshas a relationship or not with the anxiety experienced by students. According to Foulkes andBlakemore (2021), even for the strongest friendships, socialization via the internet is not the sameas face-to-face interaction. So, the mental health benefits you get are not the same as interactingdirectly. Therefore, this study aimed to see the relationship between online friendship quality andanxiety about the final thesis in final semester students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thequantitative method used in this research with a correlational research design. One hundred andtwenty-two participants were selected using convenience sampling. Questionnaires wereimplemented as the data collection technique. The data was analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation test.                  The findings showed that online friendship quality does not have asignificant relationship with anxiety about facing the final thesis in final semester students. Itindicated that the level of one's online friendship quality does not correlate with the level ofanxiety. However, additional test results showed that on the friendship quality variable, thedimensions of conflict and betrayal negatively correlated with all dimensions of the anxiety.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has a broad impact on society. The high death rate from COVID-19 canmake individuals feel guilty when dealing with the loss of loved ones. This study aimed to explorethe process of self-acceptance in individuals who experience survivor's guilt due to the COVID-19pandemic. This study used a phenomenological method. The participants in this study were threeyoung adults 18-39 years old who were still in the process of overcoming survivor's guilt. Theresults showed that the three participants felt regret, helplessness, anger and sadness because theyhave a healthier and more secure condition, while their loved ones are not safe. They tended toblame themselves (survivor's guilt) for something that did not directly affect the death of theirparents. The process of self-acceptance experienced by the participants is unique and non-linearrelated to the aspects of aversion, curiosity, tolerance, allowing and friendship. Emotionalprocesses, participant perceptions, religiosity and support from the environment are factors thatinfluence the process of self-acceptance of the three participants.

Abstract

Paternal involvement is necessary for children ages 6-12 to thrive optimally. On the other hand, fathers face a challenge of having limited time to spend with their children as a result of being abreadwinner to fulfil the family’s needs. This research aimed to identify the relationship betweenthe time fathers spent at work and the paternal involvement of fathers with children ages 6-12years old. This was quantitative research with a correlational design. There were 50 fathers withchildren between the ages of 6-12, currently working, and living in Jabodetabek as participants.Father’s paternal involvement was measured using the Paternal Involvement Questionnaire. Thetime fathers spent working were collected using a time sheet. Participants recorded their dailyactivities within a 30-minute interval for 7 days. The hypothesis was tested using the Spearmancorrelation test which showed that there was no significant relationship between the time fathersspent at work and the paternal involvement of fathers with children ages 6-12 years old. This resultindicated that even if fathers spent more time working, this doesn’t mean they have lower paternalinvolvement than fathers who spent less time working. For future research, it is recommended toinvestigate further the relationship between father involvement, father's location of work, father'sassistance in taking care of children, and maternal gatekeeping.

Abstract

A strong fear of one or more social situations where one might be subject to criticism and scrutiny from others is a sign of social anxiety disorder. Untreated social anxiety disorder symptoms have been linked to risky conduct, including risky sexual activity, abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, which peaks throughout the emerging adulthood stage. The key variables that contribute to the symptoms of social anxiety disorder are self-focused attention and negative social cognition, according to a number of cognitive theories. This study looked at the effects of self-focused attention and negative social cognition on social anxiety disorder symptoms in emerging adults in Indonesia. This study's design was a correlational study, and convenience sampling was used to choose participants who were between the ages of 18 and 25 and had at least a high school diploma. The Social Cognitions Questionnaire (SCQ), Self-Consciousness Scale (SCS), and Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN) were made available online to gather data. There were 124 people in all that took part in the study. The results of the multiple regression test reveal that while self-focused attention is not connected with social anxiety, negative social cognition significantly contributes to it. To research the connection between self-focused attention and symptoms of social anxiety disorder in Eastern nations, cultural factors like self-construal can be looked into.

Abstract

Women often receive comments about their bodies as they gain weight, which increases the risk of developing a negative body image and damage the identity formation process during adolescence. These obstacles will impact the emerging adulthood developmental stages. This study aims to describe body image and body image formation factors in emerging adult women who experienced significant weight gain from being underweight during adolescence. Qualitative research was conducted, involving three adult female participants aged 18-25 years, who were classified as underweight during adolescence, experienced significant weight gain, had either underweight or normal Body Mass Index (BMI), and had a negative body image based on the Multidimensional Body-Self Relational Questionnaire-Appearance Scales (MBSRQ-AS). The three participants were selected through purposive criterion sampling. Data was collected through semi structured interviews, which were then analyzed using thematic analysis. The results showed that all three participants were dissatisfied with specific body parts due to the desire to achieve their ideal body weight. This dissatisfaction affected theparticipants’ efforts to present themselves and control their weight. These views were formed from individual experiences during adolescence, which persisted into emerging adulthood and were greatly influenced by interpersonal factors and cultural socialization factors.

Abstract

Marriage through the method of “ta’aruf” has become popular recently. Considering that the process of marriage conducted thorugh “ta’aruf” is different from the conventional marriage process, it is interesting to examine it from the perspectives of self disclosure and marital adjustment. The aim of this study is to describe the influence of self disclosure and marital adjustment on the marital quality of couples who undergo “ta’aruf” marriage. The study employs a quantitative approach, and the participants consist of 32 respondents who are married through the “ta’aruf” method, comprising both males and females. Three measurements are utilized in this study: The Indonesian Moslem Marital Quality Scale; Self Disclosure and Relational Outcomes; and the Marital Adjustment Questionnaire. Multiple regression analysis is used as the analytical method to test the hypotheses. The findings show a significant influence of self disclosure on the marital quality of couples who marry through the “ta’aruf” method. Marital adjustment also significantly affects the marital quality of such couples. Also both self disclosure and marital adjustment have an impact on the marital quality of couples who undergo “ta’aruf” marriage. The implications of this study suggest that couples who marry through “ta’aruf” can achieve good marital quality similar to couples who opt for other methods. However, it is advisable for prospective couples who are still in the “ta’aruf” process to go deeper into understanding each other and seek information from books or literature about marriage in Islam as an effort to prepare for a higher quality marriage.
