IBDA`: Jurnal Kajian Islam dan Budaya focuses on the study of Islamic culture that developed in society, as well as the culture that developed in Muslim societies. The scope of the study includes: a) Beliefs system in Islam, b) Ideas of Muslim scholars, c) Ritual system in Islam, d) Islamic institutions and organizations, e) Traditions or customs in Islamic society, and f) Literature and Islamic arts. IBDA`: Jurnal Kajian Islam dan Budaya aims to build a comprehensive understanding of Islamic norms in religious texts and their realization in social life. If the author comes from Indonesia, please submit articles in Indonesian. After the article has accepted to publish by the Ibda Journal Editorial Board, the writer of the article must be willing to follow the rules for translating the article into English with the translator specified by the Ibda Journal.

Abstract

This article reveals the Walisongo’s role as the Javanese’s Islamicscholars who spread out Islam in Java Island. Their teaching has manysocial contributions especially on the messages that were taught by theJavanese Islamic scholars. the preaches contain a series of cultural symbolswhich is basically reflects the social changes.The descriptive methodis used to describe the messages which are implicitly and explicitly lie attheir language. The sociology and culture analysis is not only intended torevealing the meaning of the symbols but also to find out the structure ofthe language.

Abstract

This research is about Idul Adha festival which is combined withHajat Sasih, a ritual that is spread out in Kampung Naga. Phenomenologicalapproach with ethno science paradigm by James P. Spradley isused to record the festival. It has been found that the festival is withoutslaughtering the livestock and the Hajat Sasih ritual is dominated thefestival. Hajat Sasih is a kind of thankfulness to God by visiting the cemeteryof the ancestors; Sembah Dalem Eyang Singaparana besides it isalso a special moment for the people to get the benefit of silaturahmi,ziarah kubur and tumpeng which are blessed by the senior villager. Thepeople are presenting a gift to religious leaders and village leaders.

Abstract

This paper discusses about the values which contain in tahlian andyasinan in Muslim societies as aseries activities in takziyah. Takziyah isvisiting the family which one of the member is died.this research is intendedto know the detail activity of tahlian and yasinan which becomethe source to dig up the values inside. Both tahlian and yasinan containsspecial values which support the live of the society and it mixes with thelocal culture.

Abstract

This paper discusses the Baritan tradition in Pemalang which isdone by the fishermen to pray for their safety. The method of interviewand observation are used to get the important data. The tradition hasbeen done in some generations as there is a syncretism between Islamand the local culture. Islamic teaching combined with the local structuremakes the praying ritual long-lasting. Still there is a diferrence in prayingfor safety mission, in the past the prayer wa intended to the Spirit whilenowadays it is intended to The Supreme God.

Abstract

Saminism as cultural identity and part of Indonesian plurality stillsurvives until today. Historically, Saminism was born as a cultural andpolitical reaction against colonialism but practically it was more aboutreligious way, in this point some religions in Java have been interactedwith saminism leaders and followers. Based on those facts it would beinteresting to understand how the relation between Islamic values andsaminism through socio-ethnography. On the other hand, how the historyof saminism related to political and social condition of Indonesia isalso interesting. Agama Adam or religion of Adam as a way on Saminismeis one of evidence that Islamic values connected with saminism.

Abstract

This article reveals the Sura the rituals of Javanese society in Suramonth. They believe that it is Tundan dhemit, a time when there was agroup of ghosts who are looking for prey, especially those who are unawareand careless. The people serve this ceremony to protect themselvesfrom this disaster. Meanwhile In Islam Sura or Muharram is the specialmonth because there were many histories about prophets and their struggle.This phenomenon results a controverse which arouse to sin.

Abstract

This research is included in naturalistic research which is intendedto explore the wedding ritual in Pekalongan, a town in the north part ofCentral Java which has a special characteristic. The ritual consists of severalsteps such as nakokke, sangsangan, nentokke dino, pasrahan tukon,malem midodaren, walimah, aqad nikah, resepsi, and balik kloso.Thespeciallity of Pekalongan wedding ritual arev (1) dating after engagement;(2) the brief series of ceremony; (3) the word walimah translated asreading maulid al-barzanji before akad nikah; (4) the couple do not sittogether in the ceremony; (5) a special term bedhol gelung; (6) an activityof balik kloso sisan tilik; (7) a special term nunggak seme; (8) thereare some models of invitation.

Abstract

This article reveals the art in Islam which still becomes controversy.This paper describes that art is the form of God in this universe. Inthis context, prophetic art is an art which is based on the effort of releasinghuman from the bad condition of belief, science, knowledge and badcharacter of human. Art is also used for protecting from the ignored things.The prophet’s art itself consists of six points, (1) religion, (2) ethics, (3)aesthetics, (4) intelligence, (5) social sense, and (6) self being. Those feelingssupport man to build his culture, thus art can be used as the culturestrategy to build the society.

Abstract

This research reveals the teaching of a religious sect in Diengwhich focuses on theological concept. Clifford Geerts' concept is used todiscuss the social and art area. There are some results on this research; abelief to the invisible nature, the Islamic teaching from Sunan Kalijaga,Mataram teaching with some enculturation, and a statement that Allah isthe only one who is worth to be worshipped.

Abstract

This paper is a library research which analyzes the poem anthology‘Yang’ of Abdul Wachid B.S. There are three dimensions from thepoems; the first is transcendental which consists of (a) pray and honesty,(b) tauhid, (c) piousness, (d) faith, (e) zikir, (f) the unity of man and God.The second is liberation; (a) understanding, (b) anti-harassment, (c) position-awareness, and (d) avoiding others from accident. The third is humanism;(a) helping each other, (b) obeying the rule, (c) affection.
