Abstract

The gas sensor used concept based on a contaminated air detection system can be used to detect dangerous objects. The main goal of this study is how to use a gas sensor to detect harmful gas such as formaldehyde. The problem found is the condition of the detected object must be dry to make the process faster. To find out the results of the detection, this research using interface result between microcontroller and personal computer that resulted change of ADC value by gas sensor array. On the whole tests, the change of ADC value reached 192 on TGS2600 sensor with formalized fish samples. Therefore, it can be concluded that the sensors can detect dangerous materials on an detected object in just 4 minutes with a flowrate of 0.8 atm/min (atmosphere per minutes).

Abstract

Plastic packaging is often used by consumers or wide community to save food or other objects. Plastic packaging will be dangerous for users if it is not used in accordance with the rules. The purpose of this study was to explain how much the consumer's knowledge of the dangers of plastic packaging so that the consumer(s) or the user(s) couldpreventfrom this risk. This study test was done by using 70 samples around Medan. Meanwhile, it used two variables which were the dependent variable and the free variable. The independent variable was the consumer’s knowledge and the dependent variable was the danger of plastic packaging. The results of this study showed thatmany consumers have aslight knowledgeaboutthe plastic packaging hazards.From 70 samples distributed there are 96% consumers indicated low knowledge of the plastic packaging hazard. The assessment contributed to the consumers consists of 25 items in which under ten items could be answered correctly, 4% with the good knowledge (two people) and enough knowledge (one person) with 5% significant.

Abstract

Gas leakage is a major problem in the industrial sector, especially for dangerous gases such as ammonia (NH3). This automatic gas detection device is made to provide information about the levels of ammonia gas in the event of a gas leak and provide an early warning. The gas sensor used is a type of semiconductor that is MQ-135 which is stable and has high sensitivity. Gas evaporation method was performed to compare betweenstandard ppm (calculation) with measurable ppm. The analog voltage coming out of the sensor is converted to the ADC value by the ATMega 328 microcontroller.The transfer equation functions y = 153.7ln (x) + 223.11 obtained from the relationship between ppm value and ADC. This equation is used as a reference for detecting gas in accordance with sensor characteristics. A warning alarm will sound when the ammonia gas levels more than 100 ppm.

Abstract

The development of technology can help human work, one of which is robot technology that can be used in the military and security fields.As in the application of robot in the military field is a robot for investigating an arena or object. This robot is generally controlled using remote control and even the use of mini computer to monitor the unpredictable environment. In the other hand, the use of legged robot like the hexapod robot is also used to search target, investigation, and others. In this research, hexapod robot has been equipped with Arduino Uno module, servo motor driver, servo motors, and integrated with power supply. Hexapod robot is controlled manually using a remote control based on an Android smartphone, and the communication use Bluetooth. The robot has implanted the logic of movement forward, backward, turn right and left, which movement is active if given an order by the user using Android. For the robot move forward by sending the character "A", the robot move backward by sending the character "B", and to turn left and right respectively by sending the characters "C" and "D". The experimental results show that hexapod robot and android smartphone are connected properly, and the robot has successfully moveforward, backward, turn left and right according to the commands given to the robot.

Abstract

Crane is one of mechanical tools that generally used in industry to lift and move material or product from one place to another. Conventionally, crane operated manually by operator. However, along with the growth of technology, it is expected to operate the crane automatically also in order to do repetitive works as efficiencies. Automatization in industry is growth together with modern industrial development where control systems have important role in improvement of an industry. Therefore, in this study develops a miniature crane with PLC Zelio SR3B261BD as a controller to applied manual mode and automatic mode program in order to lift and move material by crane manually or automatically.

Abstract

Volcano preparedness is a response or an attempt to provide protection to ourselves and the environment, both material and non-material. In the volcanic region of Bur Ni Telong, Bener Meriah District, the lack of preparedness of communities, a high level of mobility and building in the wrong place at the identified disaster-prone areas is the biggest cause of vulnerability in the region endures the fire. The research for preparedness of Bur Ni Telong Communities is a blend of quantitative and qualitative methods. Further calculation results are analyzed and the summarized into a proposed strategy for achieving community preparedness for disasters. The results showed that the overall level of preparedness or communities in the central highlands area of study especially in the category of less ready with a cumulative index score 48.506. Unpreparedness is influenced by a number of factors, such as knowledge, attitudes, early warning system, employment and education. Some possible strategies proposed to improve community preparedness in the study area is to focus activities to reduce the risks, empowering communities as subjects not objects in disaster management, and local document of knowledge through educational curriculum in schools.

Abstract

Hazardous gas detection robot using semiconductor sensor is aimed to help operators high risk jobs. This harmful gas detector robot using RF Wireless is able to detect gas leaks by using the semiconductor sensor such as MQ2 sensors. Robot use the LCD to display the presence or absence of gas detected by the MQ2, and a buzzer as the alarm if gas is detected. The advantage of this robot is the robot can detect locations of gas that can’t be reached by humans. The robot is controlled by using a joystick which data is sent by NRF24L01transmiter with maximum distance ±100 meter, so it helps people in the finding of a gas leak location process.

Abstract

Multilevel Inverter (MLI) single phase seven level in this research is constructed by using cascaded H-Bridge modification which consists of three independent DC sources in form of 9 Volt batteries which arranged in series where each source separated by MOSFET that used as switch and uses three diodes and furthermore connected with H-Bridge circuits which serves to reverse the direction of the electric current to producing alternating voltage on the resistif load. MOSFET switching circuits was designed by using SPWM Method that has modified from previous Researchers, by using the operational amplifier component that used as comparator between the reference wave in form of sinusoidal wave which having maximum amplitude 9 volts with carrier voltage that has been modified from DC sources as many as three (1.5 Volt, 4.5 Volt and 7.5 Volt) and use analog and digital electronic components which function to activate the gate of each MOSFET in the power circuits. THD that generated in this study by 11.6% while the research [3] produces THD 18.07%, and 18.40% for methods PD (Phase Disposition) PWM, APOD (Altenative Phase Opposition Disposition) PWM, thus this system is able to produce better THD than previous research

Abstract

The design of this goods separator conveyor aims to replace human labor in separating goods based on color, where the goods separation system is designed using the zelio smart relay (SR3B261BD) as the main controller, the conveyor belts in this system are driven by motor power wondows and are using a color sensor module. (TCS3200) as a color detection sensor which is then separated by a separation arm designed using a DC motor to separate each item according to the predetermined color, namely red, green and blue. The limit switch is used to limit the separation arm. When the goods have been separated, the separating arm will return to the starting position, this process will continue until the next cycle.

Abstract

Sensors that are able to identify the type of gas are needed in the industry. One of them is a Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM) sensor which can produce a constant resonance frequency. In this study, we intend to determine the sensitivity of the QCM gas sensors which are coated with different polymers. QCM gas Covered with polymer sensor based QCM aim to increase the sensors ability to absorb molecules on the surface of the QCM sensor. The sensor array coated with different polymer materials will produce different frequency response output patterns for each type of gas identified. The test results showed that the QCM sensor coated with OV 17 polymer material was more sensitive by producing sensitivity of 8.4 Hz /ml alcohol, 9.96 Hz /ml 2-propanol, 35.88 Hz /ml acetone, 39.64 Hz /ml benzene.
