Abstract

The transition from face-to-face learning to distance learning has decreased student learning outcomes. Departing from this phenomenon, this research is presented as an effort to overcome various obstacles experienced by teachers and students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The researcher offers a model that can be used in virtual learning activities. Beginning with finding out the extent of the influence of the problem-based learning (PBL) model on accounting learning outcomes in class X Accounting 1 students at SMK YPKK Limbung. Research data obtained from the results of the test, observation, and documentation. Then analyzed using t-test which consists of simple linear regression analysis and product moment correlation. The findings in this experimental study resulted in a simple linear regression equation model with a value of Y=33,012+4.283X and a correlation coefficient value of 0.580. After students received learning using the PBL model through distance learning and were given a post-test, their learning outcomes also increased. In other words, the implementation of the PBL model has a significant and positive effect on accounting learning outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

The study investigated attitudes toward climate change among 480 pre-service science, technology, and mathematics (STM) teachers from four higher institutions of learning in Southwest, Nigeria using the quantitative research method within the blueprint of the descriptive survey design. Data collected using climate change attitude survey were analysed using the descriptive statistics of percentages, mean, and standard deviation and inferential statistics of factor analysis and independent samples t-test. Findings revealed that attitudes toward climate change assessed by the climate change attitude survey was a multi-dimensional construct (perceived beliefs component and intentions component). Gender differences in attitudes toward climate change among pre-service STM teachers were not significant even at the subscale level of perceived beliefs and intentions. In addition, the pre-service STM teachers showed a moderate level of attitudes toward climate change. In conclusion, there is need for a concerted effort to protect the earth from increased weather variability and the Nigerian government at all levels has both international and domestic commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to ensuring sustainable human development. Future studies in Nigeria and elsewhere should conduct a confirmatory factor analysis on the climate change attitude survey to further generalise the findings of this study.

Abstract

The issue of Moral Decadence is becoming worrisome not only among the Nigerian Tertiary Institutions but in the world at large and it’s gradually eroding the morals and values which has been of great benefit to people’s greatness in the past.  As an evaluator, this concern leads to the conceptualization of this study that assessed the causes of moral decadence, identified those to be blamed and provide probable solutions to the menace. Three research questions guided the study and descriptive survey research design was used.  Purposive sampling technique was used to select four hundred undergraduate that participated in the study.  The adapted and revalidated Moral Decadence Questionnaire (MODEQ) from Olorundare (2011) study was used and it yielded reliability co-efficient of 0.88. The results reveal that Parental negligence, negative mass media contents, peer group influences, among others are the causes of moral decadence and that Parents are the most to be blamed for the level of moral decadence.  To curb this menace, effective parenting, engendering positive peer influence, among others can achieve the best result. Recommendation was made, that Parents should consciously contribute to the building of a morally viable Nigerian society by instilling strong moral values into their children.
