Abstract

Indonesia is a pluralistic country (diverse) in terms of ethnicity, religion, culture, language and social system. This diversity is a blessing that is given as a potential wealth of the nation. On the one hand, this potential can be managed to strengthen nationality and people's welfare, but on the other hand, it can be a potential conflict that can weaken and even solve (disintegration) of nationalism if it is not managed properly. Indonesia has a variety of local wisdom as invaluable social capital. One of them is Pela in Maluku which has a value system that is capable of marching and strengthening (integration) nationalism. The Pela value system has at least four functions that are able to effectively integrate (social cohesion) and strengthen national potential at the local (regional) level, especially in Maluku.

Abstract

Each society has   its own traditional forms which passed down orally. These traditions demonstrate and explain the identity and characteristics of the community, which is closely connected to the world and the context in where they are located. The aim of this article is to discover values of Lesa. Lesa  is one of the ancestral tradition of the Moluccans who usually live in groups, eat and live together. Contextual theology approach (practical mode) is developed in order to explore and examine life-lesa of Waimahu people. For Waimau people, lesa is a place in where all family members sit around to have meal together and a right time for parents to talk to children. Then, lesa is applied also to reconciliation. Shortly, Lesa means to gather a family together: sit together, have meal together, give thank to the Lord together, and enjoy reconciliation with God and neighbor. As cultural heritage, lesa must be transmitted to the new generation.

Abstract

This article analyses the concept of empowering congregations (oikonomia) as the new concept of the Protestant Church of Maluku (GPM) to add explaining the classic mark of the church, namely fellowship (Koinonia), service (Diakonia), and witness (Martyria). In the provision of services by GPM, the task of empowerment (oikonomia) gets the primary focus. The social context of the GPM congregation living in poverty is the driving force for the mission of church empowerment services. The empowering mission is mainly rooted in the mission of God, who sent the church to realize the kingdom of God to the world. GPM continues the idea of God's mission in service policies by implementing 30% and 70% sharing funds, which focuses on increasing the empowerment of the people as a form of transformative Diakonia. This research used a mixed-method to analyze the implementation of the GPM budget quantitatively, and its utilization was analyzed qualitatively. The congregation of Haria was one of the congregations that became the locus of the research. In the end, the research results that although GPM has mandated the implementation of empowerment programs as the focus of transformative diakonia, the reality is that the church service still prioritizes strengthening institutions and servants.

Abstract

The fishermen are constantly faced with various challenges when working. In the challenges they face, they believe a supreme power will guide them in their work. The work experience of fishers with different challenges becomes a medium to build an understanding of God. This study aims to see how fishers understand God based on work experience. This study uses qualitative research methods with in-depth interview techniques, observation, and literature study. After collecting the data, the next step is to analyze the data based on the practical model. The study results found that the fishermen experienced God through storms, waves, and bad weather. The experience becomes a way to share and interpreting God in their lives. The catch of the fishermen also gives an understanding of God, who gives blessings to their lives. Through this reality, the fishermen rely on God to provide them with blessings, join in the work, and answer their prayers. God is the Source of Hope, and this is an attempt to contextualize theology based on the work experience of the fishermen. Putting hope in God is a form of faith in God's promises and inclusion.

Abstract

This article examines deviations from the original purpose of the regional autonomy system in the Reformation era. Since the beginning, the local autonomy system was a response to a centralized government system during the New Order regime. The implementation of regional autonomy so that each region can regulate, develop, and advance its region. However, the spirit of regional autonomy has been distorted due to public policies' existence through a set of rules that impose religious law, which ultimately limits the development of other religions. In reality, regional / regency regulations with religious nuances clash with the Republic of Indonesia's existing constitution. This study uses the literature method approach, which focuses on the topic of regional autonomy as well as conducting interviews with national figures Andreas A. Yewangoe because his thoughts will be raised in responding to deviations from the original purpose of the formation of regional autonomy policies in Indonesia. In conclusion, Yewangoe gave a theological response so that matters of religious law were aimed at his religious group, not being forced to be applied in a heterogeneous public space to create democracy in Indonesia following the principles of humanity and justice for Indonesian people.

Abstract

Judges 16:1 – 22 prominently present a dynamic power relationship between the characters in the particular narrative of Samson, Delilah, the Philistines, and YHWH. This article aims to explore a number of tendentious and dynamic power relations in this text using the method of interpreting narrative criticism. From the perspective of narrative criticism, the text of Judges 16:1-22 was a dramatic story between Samson and Delilah that was interpretable. This text elaborated every element of the story, whether plot, setting, time and character, into a dramatic and meaningful narrative. The interpretation of this text was studied by searching gaps in the story as well as between actors and bridging them with discursive studies. Because sometimes the interpreter ignored the gap in the narrative as an important part of the narrative interpretation. If the story gap was interpreted critically, it produces and constructs powerful theological values. The identification of this story gap was initiated by conducting a structural analysis of the text. The results of this exegesis would be able to form a theological value formulation that had relevance in the current context. The author tried to dialogue the theological values in the narrative of Judges 16:1-22 with contextual realities in Indonesia.

Abstract

The aim of this article is to discover theological notions of pela, a Moluccan local culture, especially the Pela relationship between Abubu and Tenga-tenga in the Central Maluku. The researchers will develop the three cultural models by Hessegrave and Rommen (S: (sumber) source, B: (berita) news, P: (penerima) recipient). The three-culture model illustrates that the Bible’s message came in meaningful speeches and ideas for its sources (prophets, apostles and Bible writers) and recipients (listeners and readers) in Hebrew and Greco-Roman cultures. Generally, the news also has been adjusted in wider aspect, so it becomes totally meaningful to the people in the cultures where Christian message is spread out, the church establishes, and the place where cross-cultural messengers are originated. After that examining effort, it turns out that the theological values in the pela relationship such as the mutual assistances, brotherhood-sisterhood, solidarity, respecting religious faith of one another, manifested in mutual happiness in celebrating some religious events. The values in pela relationships can be established both for pela participants and people outside the pela system.

Abstract

The aim of this article is to explore theologically the meaning of Baileo at Negri Soya as a contribution to protecting nature from environmental damages which are serious problems that have attracted global concern. By conducting interviews, and then searching the meaning of Baileo, the researcher found out that giving meaning to nature as baileo shaped how people in Negri Soya see and protect nature. They understood nature not as an object to be exploited, but as an integral part of human beings’ existence that must be protected. Nature as a living baileo is God’s sacral creation. In addition, the utilization of natural elements in all ritual processions in baileo does not reflect a hierarchical concept. There is no separation among God, ancestors, human beings, and nature. Nature is not only be perceived as a source for learning and experiencing God's great creation but also as a subject to praise God.

Abstract

In the context of religious plurality, interreligious relations need to be positioned within the framework of humanitarian relations, because inter-religious relations which are placed apart from inter-human references result in religion losing its meaning. This article aims to describe the fellowship from the perspective of Christians and Muslims in Masohi. This description is essential because the conflict experiences experienced by the two religious communities in Masohi need to be constructed to build a future of peaceful religions. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with the perspective of religious studies. The research concludes that the view of fellowship in the period before and after the conflict in Masohi was that both Christians and Muslims still saw them as brothers and sisters due to cultural bond, pela-gandong.

Abstract

There are many impacts of the conflict Ambon that occurred years ago which are still found in society. Two of them are collective trauma memory and settlement religious-based segregation. The focus of this article is the communal discourse on the settlement pattern of religious-based segregation. The theory as the basic perspective of this study is a socio-linguistic theory developed by Norman Fairclough through Critical Discourse Analysis Approach. The principle notion of this approach is that discourse has an important role in shaping a society. Therefore, the aim of this article is to remind all that because of the complexity faced by the society after the conflict, trust-building, and trauma-healing are programs that all must work on, especially when one talks about religion and nationalism in the Moluccas context.
