Abstract

The aim of this article is to explain about dynamic encaounters between Christian and cultural point of views on Cuci Negri, a Molucan local culture or adat.  An adat forms value and enriches a social identity of a local community, so do the Cuci Negri. Cuci Negri was (and still is) one tradition or ritual that shows the indigenous identity on Ambon Island, especially in some villagees of Leitimur. In Hukurila, this tradition is carried out every year on December 13th, to 16th. Since 1986, there had been interpenetration processes between the gospel and the custom, a new approach, compere to the former approach where church tend to penetrate indigenous religion or local custom. Study of the interpenetration process is expected to be a framework of contextual theology in Hukurila. The process of Cuci Negeri ritual reveals a dialectical relationship between the gospel and adat, which gives meaning to each other. This relation is not to weaken or eliminate each one, but gives a value or meaning of one another. Besides, Cuci Negeri is a way through which people of Hukurila maintain their cosmos, in order to remain sustainable for the future of their generation.

Abstract

This article aims to explore the challenges of contextual biblical studies in the disruptive era. This era is marked by the development of digital technology such as smartphones, so that everyone can easily prepare sermon materials instantly from various interpretation applications on a smartphone, without basing it on in-depth Bible interpretation rules. The author presents the concepts and methods of biblical interpretation as a form of contextual biblical studies to overcome the use of instant sermons from various interpretation applications. By using a qualitative approach and the type of literature and descriptive research. From this research, it is found that contextual biblical studies are a solution to overcome biblical interpretation and the use of sermons that seem appropriate and instant regardless of the context of the text, the context of the interpreter, and the context of the listener. It also gives the impression of belittling or belittling sermon preparation and the rules of biblical interpretation. Contextual biblical studies can be used to avoid mistakes in interpreting and preparing sermons while at the same time producing biblical and contextual interpretations.

Abstract

Wayame is one of the villages that did not get involved in the social conflict in 1999. This does not mean that Wayame village does not care about other villages because it does not participate in conflicts. However, in Wayame village, it is true that the conflict only brings destruction in the social ties of the community which in turn can have a traumatic impact on the pluralistic Wayame community. Wayame Village, which is not involved in the conflict and looks harmonious - is not as easy as one might imagine. The existence of a harmonious life process in the midst of diversity in Wayame village has hard efforts made by village governments, religious leaders, and especially people who have a love for Wayame village. Efforts and work to maintain harmony in Wayame village require the involvement of all elements of society, therefore Wayame village formed a TEAM 20 consisting of 10 Christians and 10 Muslims to maintain the stability of the village and the community so as not to get involved in the conflict at that time. In efforts to maintain harmony in the midst of a pluralistic society, it is necessary to understand the religions that exist in society, therefore the theology of religions is necessary to find a common goal as religious human beings in the midst of diversity.

Abstract

This article aims to interpret Psalm 80 and explore its implications. Restoring power is derived from the original national spirituality. Every nation, in any civilization, has national spirituality that was born from the noble promise when the nation was formed. The noble commitment is a manifestation of the work and role of the Holy Spirit, who gave wisdom to the nation's founders with one goal: to build a country that unites its pluralistic people and fights for prosperity, justice, truth, and integrity for its pluralistic people equally. With a socio-exegetic approach, the author asserts that the practice of restoring power is a manifestation of God's authority in the nation.

Abstract

Revelation 7: 1-17 give a witness and a vision of the writer of this book about the claim of universal salvation. If it can be viewed in a rhetorical situation, usually the party who opens the communication (speaker / author) tries to convince or influence the listener to accept some specific interpretations or attitudes. That is the reason why an important rhetorical method is used to interpret this text, so that the author's persuasive purposes in this text can be known. Most importantly, when the book of Revelation is understood in the frame of Apocalyptic literature - written in the context of its readers who are experiencing a crisis by various oppressive power pressures, but also the crisis is pleasing with the effort to establish the identity of its beliefs as well as its relevance among the influence of various other different teachings. Thus, the doctrine of universal salvation in the book of Revelation can provide a transformation both for readers of the book of Revelation, but also for readers today who are dealing with issues of identity crisis and relevance.

Abstract

In today's context, the level of religious intermarriage is increasingly questionable and negative. Even such negative imagery is legitimized by bible texts, for one thing: Ezra 10: 1-44. The text of Ezra 10: 1-44 explicitly shows Ezra's action against intermarriage between the Israelites and foreign nations. Such resistance is based on understanding that when the Israelites mix with foreigners their allegiance to YHWH is eroded. This post is the result of ideological criticism with a pluralism perspective on Ezra 10: 1-44. Interpretations reveal that the prevailing ideology that represented Ezra 10: 1-44 was the attempt to maintain the purity of the cult YHWH. Thus, the writer finds it necessary to do a dialectic with the problem of religious interfaith that takes place in today's context. The dialectic done was to find a correlation between the context of Ezra and current readers. On the other hand, based on the ideological theories of sheila brigs and Robert Setio, the writer offers a counter-ideology, producing a theological offer in the plural context of Indonesia.

Abstract

This article was presented as a research paper for the Ecumenical Theology Course at the Ecumenical Institute Bossey in Switzerland. Apostolicity and the relation to the apostles and the early Christians is a big discussed topic in several ecumenical dialogues. First the article analysis the method and context of five different ecumenical dialogue documents. It goes from multilateral Faith and Order documents like “Baptism, Eucharist, Ministry” and “The Church Towards a Common Vision” over the “Porvoo Common Statement” to two Lutheran/Roman-Catholic documents. Then it identifies some characteristic dimensions of apostolicity and brings the results from the dialogues together. A reading of apostolicity as narrative of continuity and authority in relation to god and Jesus Christ occurs through the chapters. Especially in the question of ministry apostolicity plays an important and differentiated role. The article focusses in the end on the episcopal ministry and develops the differentiation of horizontal and vertical apostolic continuity. Apostolicity is described as a gift of god and becomes obviously through gods action in the ordination act. Finally, the article summarises all results, ideas and new approaches.

Abstract

In this paper, researchers would explain about the folklore of Eno Karang at indigenous community of Aru with Strauss’ structuralism as our theoretical approach. We would construct the values which can be adopted from that folklore, and also about the interconnection between Aru community and their ocean. Thus, researchers construct contextually theological notions based on the story of Eno Karang. After conducting this research, one interesting thing that has been found is that the story of Eno Karang is one of the myths in Aru which basically is talked about the siblinghood relation between human and the ocean. Aru people are the sibling of the ocean because under the ocean, their ancestors live in the physical form of ocean biodiversity. Because of this relationship, the violation against the ocean is totally prohibited. Based on that relationship, they assume that the ocean will be their judge or punisher, so they must maintain a harmonious life with the ocean as an equal creature in the siblinghood consciousness.
