Abstract

The use of comic strips as teaching aids for narrative writing is the subject of this study. This study used comic strips in the context of narrative writing to examine students' feelings of self-consciousness. The researchers conducted a case study to gather qualitative information for this study. A questionnaire was used as a research instrument in this study. The form of the questionnaire used by the researchers is a close-ended question with a short rating questionnaire (strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree or strongly agree) which consists of ten statements. To analyze the data, the researchers used the formula of the computation for calculating the data to be a percentage of each student's response to each questionnaire item by presenting them on the table and then described it as the questionnaire was examined. The findings indicate that using comic strips as teaching aids for the narrative writing curriculum is well received by students. It showed that the students gave positive responses towards the implementation of comic strips as teaching media in narrative learning material. Almost all of the students in the classroom were interested and enjoyed it while the researchers implemented the comic strips. The students are active in class activities. They felt using the comic strips as a learning media makes them better able to develop their imagination and create ideas for developing the stories discussed because, in the comic, the explanations accompanied by pictures and dialogues make it easier for them to interpret the stories or material discussed, even though in terms of language skills and vocabulary are inadequate.

Abstract

The 21st-century EFL teachers should focus more on students’ real performance, and authentic assessments become the most suitable assessment type that demonstrates students’ knowledge to perform real-world tasks in their real and meaningful context. The objectives of this qualitative study were to reveal the teachers’ beliefs in authentic assessment and propose an authentic assessment model adapted to Gulikers et al.'s five-dimensional framework. This study involved 37 EFL teachers in Indonesia from three education levels. The data were collected through a close-ended questionnaire made online and then analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings of this study showed that teachers believed in the urgency of authentic assessment and the need to have a guideline that could be used to design appropriate authentic assessments. Additionally, by linking up to the need to design an ideal authentic assessment, the writers proposed a framework that not only focuses on the result but also considers the important elements in designing an authentic assessment that not many teachers know. Hopefully, the proposed framework will benefit educators, practitioners, and researchers who need new insight into the procedure to conduct an authentic assessment for their students.

In a Foreign Language setting, the target language is not used widely in the society. It is mostly learnt and used in the classroom contexts. Consequently, learners do not have sufficient language input. As a result, learners are mostly reluctant in using their foreign language which leads to their language acquisition. Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused changes in the global education system, requiring all educational institutions to adapt online instruction in response to government regulations such as lockdowns, travel restrictions, and the ban of public meetings, among others. As the country recovers from the effects of this pandemic, the Philippine government has chosen to return educational institutions' activities to face-to-face mode. During the pandemic, several academics sought to learn about the influence of online education on students' academic achievement, students' attitudes about online learning, the impact on students' mental health, and parents' perceptions and experiences. However, despite the abundance of published material, there is a lack of studies on students' preference between online education and traditional education, notably among tourism management students in the Philippines, as well as studies that have determined the differences on students' choice in terms of the type of institution they are enrolled at, motivating the researchers to conduct this study. Using a descriptive research design taking on quantitative research approach, the researchers aimed to determine the experience of tourism management students in selected colleges and universities in Region IV-A, Philippines towards online and traditional education in terms of productivity, efficiency, and convenience. Findings of this study serve as guide for government agencies concerned with education and educational institutions to understand their stakeholder, allowing them to come up with more preferable policy decisions in the future.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine the Techniques Employed by Basic Teachers in Reducing Pupils Undesirable Behaviours in Classrooms in the Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria. Recently, the issue of undesirable behaviors among children in our society today and the world at large specifically in schools has become worrisome and a major cause for concern for parents, teachers, educational stakeholders, and other related agencies in the field. This study adopted a descriptive type of research design. The study comprised all public primary school teachers in Ilorin South. Multi-phasic sampling techniques were used in this study that is, Purposive and proportional sampling techniques were used to select one hundred and eleven (111) qualified basic school teachers across the fifteen (15) selected schools while the fifteen (15) schools selected using simple random sampling techniques. The research instrument employed was a researcher’s designed questionnaire in which the test re-test reliability method was used to determine the validity and reliability of the instrument using Pearson product-moment correlation (PPMC) and a co-efficient of 0.93 was established. The findings from this study showed that Teachers’ years of experience, age and educational qualification have a significant influence on the kind of techniques employed by the teachers while teachers’ gender was found not to have any significant influence on the kind of techniques they employed. The recommendation was made based on these findings.

Abstract

This study assessed the relationship of attitude towards online learning on the problem-solving ability of 2nd year Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) students of Don Carlos Polytechnic College. It aimed to describe the level of students’ attitude toward online learning; ascertain the problem-solving ability of the students; correlate students’ problem-solving ability with the attitude toward online learning; and identify which component of attitude towards online learning best impacts and predicts students’ problem-solving ability. A descriptive-correlational research design was used in this study. Mean, correlation and regression analyses were employed. Students were found to have positive attitude towards online learning; however, their problem-solving ability is still very poor. Moreover, there was a significant relationship on students’ attitude towards online learning, specifically on ease-ness in using online learning, on students’ problem-solving ability. Further, it was revealed that problem-solving ability is predicted by ease-ness in using online learning. Nevertheless, due to the limited scope of this work, the authors felt that there is a need for more extensive research particularly in the effectiveness of online learning to arrive at conclusions that would be more valid, and applicable to a larger student population.
