Abstract

This study aims to determine the waqf management in Gontor, especially in the waqf of rice fields. Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor (PMDG) is one of the educational institutions in Indonesia that was donated in 1958. Gontor has several waqf lands that continue to grow every year. Its management is essential to know so that it can be imitated by those who need it. The Foundation of Waqf Preservation and Development of Pondok Modern Gontor (YPPWPM) manages Gontor's waqf assets in all its management. PMDG has a land area of 16.258.598 m2 or about 1.626 ha, spread throughout Indonesia. The rice fields have the most significant portion of their utilization, including the agricultural sector. This research is a descriptive study and the data comes from interviews and literature related to the waqf of Gontor. The results showed that the management of the waqf of rice fields owned by Gontor was managed by using a profit-sharing and rental system (ijarah). The waqf of rice fields in Ponorogo, Madiun, Kediri, Nganjuk, and Jember are operated by using a rental system. Whereas, waqf lands located in the Mantingan area are managed by utilizing a profit-sharing scheme. Hopefully, the study is able to enrich the literature on productive waqf land management. Abstract

The government in carrying out the obligation to provide drinking water, faces the obstacles of the lack of safe and affordable drinking water provision for all communities, as well as the increasing demand for drinking water. Using panel data from 34 provinces in Indonesia during 2016-2019, this study used static panel regression to examine the influence of the supply and demand sides of drinking water on access to improved drinking water source. The results showed that the demand side of drinking water has more influence on access to improved drinking water source, compared to the supply side. This is indicated by the level of education that has a significant influence on access to improved drinking water source, followed by the price of water. The low level of education results in a lack of awareness of the improved use of drinking water source. This result indicates the need for policies from local governments to conduct socialization and education in campaigns for the use of improved drinking water source, especially in areas with low levels of education. In addition, local governments need to set special drinking water rates for the poor people. Keywords: Demand Side, Drinking Water, Panel Data, Public Goods, Supply Side, Universal Access.

Abstract

For so many decades, Indian government has been taking legislative and administrative measures to enhance tax compliance which in turn will increase the tax collection revenues. The current, Narendra Modi government has made tremendous efforts in formalizing the economy and making the system more transparent. Some of the measures are Goods and Services Tax (GST), Income disclosure scheme, Benami Act, digitization, and Aadhaar. All the mentioned measures have improved tax compliance in India but still, they have miles to go. Studies have been conducted to analyse and understand whether such measures taken by various governments from time to time result in more tax compliance by taxpayers. This study tries to analyze the impact of e-filing, tax knowledge and tax penalties on tax compliance by taxpayers in India. The study is casual in nature with survey method being used. The study is conducted in Delhi and NCR region and standardized questionnaires were administered among a sample of 260 tax payers. Linear multiple regression has been applied to analyze the impact of tax knowledge, penalties and e-filing on tax compliance using SPSS software. The results indicate that there is no significant impact of tax knowledge on tax compliance but the impact of tax penalties and tax e filing is significant on tax compliance. It indicates that government and tax policy makers could work on e-filing awareness programs which may result in easy and convenient filling of tax by the tax payers. By levying different kinds of tax penalties, tax payers may be motivated to pay proper and timely tax, without evading the tax amount.
