Abstract

Some people stated that the roles of KBIH and its services toward pilgrims are questionable. Several KBIHs have been changed to businessinstitution rather than social institution. There is a kind of comodi.ficationof it. This paper argues, based on field research, that KBIH al-Hikmahhas given satisfied services to pilgrims. The services were not only inthe preparation of pilgrimages (manasik), but also during the pilgrimages in Mecca and and after the pilgrimages in Indonesia. In the preparation of pilgrimages, the role of KBIH was a trainer - making candidates of pilgrims are more understanding and capable for practicingthe ritual. In Mecca, KBIH was not only as guider of long journey. butalso the imam of various rituals of pilgrimages. Abstract

Bediuzzaman Said Nursi dedicated his life to the safeguarding and strengthening of faith in God, which for him was the most important issue of the time and was at the heart of religion and the societal system. He believed religious conviction faced severe and combined attacks and was being weakened by unreligious ideologies. Nursi sought to strengthen belief by transforming it from imitation to certainty. He maintained that to be occupied with the fundamentals of belief over and above everything was an absolute necessity and compelling need. This definition of the problem gave direction to his discourse, and in all his writings Nursi pursued the renewal, revival, and strengthening of the truths of creed, rather than trying to rebuild Islamic political authority and Islamic institutions or expounding Islamic Shariah rules. This is the most important single issue that distinguishes Nursi from his contemporaries. This paper, in this backdrop, anticipates to discuss the significance of Nursi’s thoughts, teachings and also explains the importance of Nursi in the formation of ideology that helped the society of Turkey to neutralize anti-religious systems. The aim of this research paper is to explain Nursi’s contributions that proved him to be a faith revivalist and whose works are one of the most ubiquitous read materials in Turkey. This essay is primarily a theoretical one and the methodology adopted for this paper is analytical-historical and descriptive.

Abstract

Democracy has been understood differently. Law no.1/PNPS/1965 whichis previously recognized as protection of religious followers is recognized aslimitation that denied principle of democracy recently. The polemic of religiousfreedom ended with proposal of judicial review on law no.1/PNPS/1965 proposedby some group of societies. This proposal, finally, is rejected by primecourt. This rejection can be corrected since UUD 1945 follows an expressiverelativism on religious freedom. Because of the existence of ambiguous wordsin such law, revision is really needed so that there will be a clear explanationrelated to who has the authority to determine whether certain religious teachingis wrong or not. It is important to solve the problematic matters faced by government and certain religious groups. Keywords : demokrasi, relativisme

Abstract

The present study described the process and the problems of marriage registration for Indonesian citizens who live in the Netherlands. Through qualitative approach, the study found that the marriage for Indonesian brides and grooms who are Muslim in Den Haag had been recorded by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in the country. The process of delivering marriage service in the Embassy had been simple and easy if the bride and grooms were able to provide the marriage requirements. On the other hand, mixed-marriages were unable to be recorded in the Embassy; however, these mixed-marriages might be recorded in Gemeente or the office of local authority on the country. In addition, the present study also found that several Indonesian citizens in the Netherlands had decided to opt for sirri marriage or religion-based marriage and thus they did not record their marriage in either the Embassy or the Gemeente. The sirri marriage had been selected because the brides and the grooms did not have valid administrative requirements. These brides and grooms usually registered themselves as life partners. Socially, sirri marriage did not have negative impacts because the partners still had social security provided by the government; as a result, civil, social, and economic rights had not been limited. Furthermore, the present study found that the spouses of mixed-marriages in the Netherlands encountered conflict of laws in which the Marriage Law admitted the law of the state in which the marriage had been held but also urged the single-faith marriage. On that basis, the present study would like to recommend reconstruction of marriage law in Indonesia, by recognizing the marriage record that has been legally carried out in other country.

Abstract

Sufism has contributed substantially in the development of Islam across the globe. It is also the case of Indonesia. Sufi preachers have been noticed as among the early Muslims who conveyed and disseminate Islam in the Archipelago. This trend seems to be repeated in this current Indonesian Islam. However, what is commonly unknown, Turkish organization also takes part in this current mode. Particularly, it is with the Islamic transnational organization from Turkey operating in Indonesia as the actors. This article aims at discussing the Sufi elements within three Turkish based transnational communities in Indonesian Islam and their contribution to Islamic education as part of Islamic development in the current Indonesia. This is a qualitative research to the topics within the three Turkish origin transnational Islamic organizations, namely the Jamaat Nur, the Fethullah Gülen Affiliated Movement, and the Suleymaniyah. This article will then argue that Sufism has continued to be one of the contributing factors for the development of Islam and in relation to that the Sufi elements within the three Turkish Transnational organizations also contribute to their acceptance in Indonesia. Overall, the Sufi elements have shaped the image and identity of the Turkish Muslims in developing the Islamic studies in Indonesia.
