Abstract

Speaking is one of important skills in English. Based on the data obtained in preliminary study, some of the students of tenth grade in SMK Negeri 1 Fanayama could not reach the Minimum Competence Criterion (MCC) of English subject thatis 65, asdetermined at the school. Some of students at SMK Negeri 1 Fanayama got weaknesses in speaking skill. This research aimed at improving the students’ speaking ability by implementing Problem Based Learning model. The subject of this research was 10th Grade students which consisted of 14 persons.The instruments of collecting the data were observation paper and test.This research conducted through classroom action research that consisted of two cycles.The result of observation done to the students and researcher showed that there were some undone activities that influence the success of implementation Problem Based Learning model in cycle I. Therefore, those undone activities were considered and improved in cycle II. Furthermore, the test result in cycle I showed that there were 5 students(36%) who passed and 9 students (64%) who failed. However, the test result in cycle II showed improvement of students’ speaking skill. There were 12 students (86%) who passed, and 2 students (14%) who failed. It can be concluded that students’ speaking skill could be improved by using Problem Based Learning model. Therefore, it is recommended to the English teacher to apply Problem Based Learning model in teaching speaking because this model can make students become active, more confident, and enjoyable.

Abstract

The discussion raised in this study relates to the use of the figure of speech in the opinion rubric of the detik.com online newspaper. The form of the research analyzed is the use of affirmation figures of speech in the detik.com mass media. Sources of data obtained through the mass media detik.com were analyzed starting from October 2022, and the news was taken randomly every week. Data collection techniques used are analysis, observation, and documents. The results of the study were read, recorded, and explained by the use of figures of speech written in the news. The purpose of this analysis is to be able to find out what figure of speech is used in the detik.com mass media. The type of research conducted is qualitative research. The results of the study concluded that there were four types of figures of speech that the researchers found on detik.com. Among them, the repetition figurehead is found in two stories, pleonasm in one story, and anticlimactic in one news.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the contextual meaning of expression on Avrillavigne selected songs. This research was designed by using descriptive qualitative method with descriptive approach to analyze the data that indicated to contextual meaning that found on AvrilLavigne selected songs. The source data of this research is song lyrics, which is the singer is AvrilLavigne, and researcher selected the songs of AvrilLavigne. The data was analyzed by using the technique of the data analysis: data condensation, data display, drawing and verifying conclusions. The data was collected by using documentation. The result of this study shows that contextual meaning of expressions were found on AvrilLavigne selected songs. It was found that there were 31 expressions that contain contextual meaning used in five song lyrics. Based on the finding, it is concluded that the contextual meaning and lexical meaning of expressions that contain contextual meaning on AvrilLavigne selected songs found is carried within words, phrase and sentences in five lyrics of AvrilLavigne selected songs. In conclusion in expressing her experience, a composer or songwriter manipulates words and or languages to create an appeal to the lyrics. Hopefully, through this study song loves, teachers, students, and all those people who like to listen songs to will be easy to understand the meaning and expressing of the song that contained in the songs they listen.

Abstract

Writing is one of important skills in English, including academic writing. In academic writings consist of quotation. However, there are still many Students English Education Study Program of STKIP Nias selatan in 2020 made errors on direct and indirect quotations in thesis written.The aim of this study is to find the students’ errors on direct and indirect quotation and to know how errors occur in thesis written by Students ofEnglish. It was conducted by employing qualitative descriptive research. The students’ writing in 2020 of English Language Education Study Program was the subject of this research. Documentation was conducted as the technique in collecting data by students’ writing. The result of data analysis showed that they have errors in direct quotations, 1) tense, 2) punctuation commas, 3) reporting verb, 4) capitalization, 5) quotation within quotation, 6) quotation of 40 words or more, 7) punctuation period, 8) punctuation brackets while the errors in indirect quotation, 1) reporting verb, 2)single quotation, 3) punctuation commas, 4)tense, 5)capitalization, 6) punctuation period. Based on the finding, it is concluded that students made errors on direct and indirect quotation are 61 errors which is errors on direct were 34 errors and indirect quotations were 27 errors It is suggested to the educator who will write writing to know about rules of direct and indirect quotation. It is also suggested to students to learn more and practice how to using direct and indirect quotation in writing.

Abstract

Every language has is own pattern such as English langauge and Indonesian language. This research was aimed to analyze the similarities and differences between English and Indonesian basic sentence pattern in short story of Cinderella’s. This research was designed by using qualitative research. In analyzing the data, the researcher used theory of Miles and Huberman: data reduction, data display,and conclusion drawing/verification. The result of this study showed that there were the similarities between English and Indonesian basic sentence pattern in short story of Cinderella’s. They are SVO/SPO, SV/SP, SVOC/SPOPel, SVOA/SPOKet, SVA/SPKet. Beside that, there were the differences between English and Indonesian basic sentence pattern in short story of Cinderella’s are SVC/SPel, SVV/SP, SVC/SPKet. It is suggested to the English teacher to pay much attention to the similarities and differences between English and Indonesian basic sentence pattern to help the students understand about basic sentence pattern easly.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the students’ difficulties in writing procedural text. This research is designed in qualitative research with descriptive approach. The data of this research are students’ worksheets about writing procedural text and interview result. The procedures used during analyzing the data were reading/memoing, describing, classifying. Based on the data analysis, it was found that there were difficulties faced by eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 O’O’U. First, in writing generic structures of procedural text which lie on writing material or ingredients, step and tips. The second, in writing language features of procedural text which lies on writing noun phrase pattern and using temporal conjunction. The factors caused students difficulties in writing procedural text are the lack of vocabulary, motivation and student’s lack of grammar understanding. It is suggested to the English teacher to teach students intensively on generic structure and language features of procedural text, the students to learn more about generic structure and language features of procedural text. Also readers to use this research as a guidance in conducting the relevant research to sharpen and enlarge their knowledge about students difficulties in writing procedural text.

Abstract

This research was aim to analyze the Deixis in Song Lyrics of“Flying Without Wings album” by Westlife. This research designed by using qualitative descriptive method. In analyzing the data, the research used theory of Creswell (2009:172-176). The data source of this study was taken fromthe Song Lyrics Album Flying Without Wings by Westlifethat was obtained from the internet, downloaded the lyrics from the internet. The data of this study isdeixis that found in the song lyrics Album Flying Without Wings ByWestlife. To examine the credibility of this study the researcher used triangulation such as data triangulation, investigator triangulation and theory triangulation. Based on the result ofresearch there were13 Personal Deixis, 5time deixis, 3 place deixis, 1 discourse deixis. It can be concluded that the dominant deixisused in song lyrics of “Flying Without Wing Album” by Westlife is personal deixis are 13. It is expected that all song lovers, teacher, students and next researcher use the result of this research as the sources of the knowledge is the term of deixis.

Abstract

Contextual Teaching and Learning is a learning concept that used by teachers to relate the subject with students real world situation. The main purpose of this study were (1) to describe the use of contextual teaching and learning (CTL) method in teaching English, and (2) to find out the problems that faced by the teacher in implementing Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) in teaching English at the eighth grade of MTs Negeri Telukdalam. The research used the qualitative method. From the data analyzed, (1) the implementation of CTL has implemented through some components of CTL: contructivistic, inquiry, questioning, learning community, modelling, reflection and authentic assessment. (2) the problems faced by the teacher were the limitation of textbooks, time allocation and students lack of understanding on materials. Contextual teaching and learning (CTL) method is quite helpful for teacher in explaining the material and also encourage students who are creative to think critically. In contextual teaching and learning (CTL) method it is suggested for teacher that in teaching learning activities, not only provide material theoretically but also relate it with students real-world situations, so that students understandthe material and can apply it in everyday life.

Abstract

Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah modul/bahan ajar yang digunakan selama ini belum valid, praktis dan efektif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan modul sistem fotosintesis pada tumbuhan yang valid, praktis dan efektif. Jenis penelitian ini adalah pengembangan model PLOMP dengan metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian dan pengembangan (Researvh and Development). Adapun hasil penelitian yang peneliti dapatkan melalui angket yang telah dibagikan adalah angket yang menyatakan bahwa modul yang diujicobakan sangat valid, sangat praktis, dan sangat efektif dimana, motivasi siswa dikategorikan sangat tinggi serta hasil belajar siswa pada ranah kognitif menyatakan hasil yang sangat baik. Adapun kesimpulkan dari pengembangan modul pada materi sistem fotosintesis pada tumbuhan yang dinyatakan sangat valid, sangat praktis, dan sangat efektif karena dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa. adapun saran peneliti yaitu hendaknya guru mata pelajaran Biologi dapat menggunakan modul pembelajaran sebagai bahan ajar dalam proses belajar karena dapat meningkatkan minat dan motivasi belajar siswa, melalui bahan ajar ini semoga siswa dapat memperluas wawasannya mengenai pembelajaran biologi pada materi sistem fotosintesis pada tumbuhan, bagi peneliti selanjutnya modul Sistem Fotosintesis pada Tumbuhan dapat dijadikan sebagai bahan referensi dalam penelitian yang relevan.

Abstract

Pertumbuhan tanaman labu sangat rendah.Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui Limbah Tahu Sebagai Pupuk alami atau Organik pada pertumbuhan tanaman Labu (Curcubita Moschata).Metode penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif tipe deskriptif.Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalahtanaman labu yang di semaikan, dan sampelnya adalah tanaman labu itu sendiri yang terdiri dari 30 polybag dengan enam kali perlakuan 5 kali ulangan. Perlakuan yang di terapkan ialah : P0=0 ml, P1= 30 ml,P2= 50 ml, P3=70 ml, P4= 90 ml, P5= 110 ml. pengolahan data dalam penelitian ini dapat dianalisis dengan menggunakan bantuan rumus one sample kolmogrov-smirnov tests yaitu untuk mengetahui uji normalitas data, kemudian one way anova yaitu untuk mengetahui uji homogenitas dan uji hipotesis data dengan menggunakan aplikasi SPSS versi 25. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adanya Pengaruh Limbah Tahu Cair Sebagai Pupuk Cair Organik Terhadap PertumbuhanLabu(CurcubitaMoschata)disetiap perlakuan dan ulangan yaitu mulai dari perlakuan pertama sampai perlakuan ke enam dan pertumbuhan tanaman labu yang pertumbuhannya lebih baik adalah terletak pada takaran 110 ml (Perlakuan ke-5). Yang menjadi kesimpulan dalam penelitian ini bahwa limbah tahu cair dapat memberi pertumbuhan yang baik terhadap pertumbuhan tanaman, salah satunya adalah tanaman labu.Saran dari peneliti adalah hendaknya masyarakat dapat menggunakan limbah tahu cair sebagai salah satu jenis pupuk alami untuk tanaman labu karena pupuk ini selain menyuburkan tanah juga meningkatkan pertumbuhan tanaman yang lebih optimal.
