Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the types of grammatical deviation in Rich Brian’s song lyrics. This research is designed in qualitative research with descriptive approach. The data of this research is the three lyrics of Rich Brian’s songs, are: Dat stick, Who that be, and Glow like that. The prosecures used during analyzing the data were data condensation, data displayed, verifying and drawing conclusion (Miles, Huberman & Saldana 2014 31-32). Based on the data analysis, it was found that there were six types of grammatical deviation, there are omission, double negation, overgeneralization, deviation of preposition, deviation of verb and deviation of pronoun and the deviation was mostly occured in the lyrics of the songs is omission. The researcher suggests English teachers, student, and readers to use this research as the reference to increase their knowledge about grammatical deviation. Also the readers to use this research as a guidance in conducting the relevant research to sharpen and enlarge their literal development by trying to understand deviation in song lyrics.

Abstract

In this situation the process of learning is not running as well as usual because of pandemic covid-19, it makes the students’ motivation in learning English disturbed and the students faced the different situation and they should do E-learning process. This research aimed to know the types students learning motivation and the percentage of high and low the students learning motivation during the pandemic covid-19. during pandemic covid-19 namely intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation and students motivation in SMA N.1 Telukdalam was high in this pandemic situation. Every difficult proccess and the different situation, they used it as a big motivation to do learning, to search more about their material, to do their homework for sure, because they know that they should face this pandemic covid-19 through learning for sure., the students should motivate themselves to learn more, and make there daily activity fun at e-learning. For students who faced pandemic Covid-19 students should be students it self and be consistent.

Abstract

Improving students’ vocabulary mastery using Crossword Puzzle Game was the aim of this research. This research was designed by using Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was done in two cycles. The subject of this research was the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1. The instruments of collecting the data were observation paper and test. The result of data analysis showed that the result of the researcher’s observation paper in the cycle I for the first meeting was 73.68% while in the second meeting was 85.71%. In the cycle II for the first meeting was 88.23% and the second meeting was 100%. The result of students’ observation paper on the cycle I for the first meeting was 65.93% and the second meeting was 71.43%. In the cycle II for the first meeting was 87.91% and the second meeting was 98.02%. Furthermore, the average score of the students’ test result in cycle I was 40.95 while the average score of students’ test result in cycle II was 75. Based on the findings, it is concluded that the implementation of Crossword Puzzle Game is useful to teach vocabulary since it offered a good exercise to help the students to understand and learn different levels of meaning for the same words. In addition, it is suggested to the English teacher to apply Crossword Puzzle Game in teaching English vocabulary and for another researcher as a reference in doing research.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types and meanings of idiomatic expressions. This study was designed in a qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The data of this research are short stories. The procedures used in analyzing the data are classifying, selecting. Based on the data analysis, it was found that there are six types of idiomatic expressions, there are similes, binomials, proverbs, euphemisms, cliches and fixed statements, the last is other languages. Also the readers to use this research as a guide in conducting relevant research to sharpen and enlarge their literal development by trying to understand the overall context of the short story.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the types of code switching and code mixing and describe the reason of using them on facebook. This research designed by qualitative research with content analysis approach. The data were collected by documentation and interview. Based on data analysis there were 47 code switching and 61 code mixing. The types of code switching there were 14 data of intrasentential switching, 3 data of tag switching and 30 data of intersentential swicthing. The types of code mixing there were 43 data of insertion, 14 data of alternation and 4 data of congruent lexicalization. For the reasons that affected of using code switching and code mixing, there were indicating the level of education, to show prestige and to draw attention. As the result of research finding, intersentential switching and insertion are the most types that used on the facebook. the researher proposed a suggestion for the students to enrich their knowledge about sociolinguistics concerning code switching and code mixing and also as the source for the next researcher and the reader.

Abstract

Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) Pandemic has spread in many countries included Indonesia. As consequence that it was not only activities in the economic sector are limited, world of education was also restricted because of the Covid-19, so the teaching and learning activities cannot be carried out as usual. This was challenge for all of the teachers. There was changed in the teaching and learning situation, teaching and learning system, and the way of convey the material. Therefore, the objectives of this research were to describe teaching strategies used by English teacher during pandemic situation at Eighth Grade of SMP Negeri 1 Lahusa. This research was designed by applying qualitative descriptive. The instruments of data collection were observation and interview. After analyzing the data, researcher found the result. The teaching strategies used by English teacher during pandemic situation, namely: (1) teachers adjusted learning objectives to basic competencies and the students level, (2) teachers selected teaching and learning approach by having good communication and gave motivation for the students, (3) teachers adjusted teaching and learning method to the duration of time and the availability of text books, (4) teachers adjusted norm and minimal success or criteria by finding how many students are interested in the lesson and how many students are capable of learning.

Abstract

This thesis studies the use of deixis that occurred in John Green’s novel entitiled Looking for Alaska. The objectives of this research are classifying the types of deixis found in John Green’s novel Looking for Alaska and describing how the deixis use in John Green’s novel Looking for Alaska. In this research, the researcher used the deixis, theory, namely person deixis, temporal deixis, spatial deixis, discourse deixis, and social deixis. This study used qualitative methods with descriptive approach. The data of this research was the utterance or sentence containing deixis that occurred in John Green’s novel Looking for Alaska. In analyzing the data, the researcher used the theory of Levinson. The result of analysis shows that there are five types of deixis in John Green’s novel, they are person deixis, temporal deixis, spatial deixis, discourse deixis, and social deixis. The person deixis found in sentence and utterance in novel Looking for Alaska are I, us, me, you, your, we, my, him, her, she, he, they, them, their, our, herself, myself, himself, themselves, and yourself. The spatial deixis found in the utterance novel Looking for Alaska are here and there. The temporal deixis found in the utterance in novel Looking for Alaska is now, then, last year, that evening, yesterday, today, to night, last night, the afternoon, next morning, next time, tomorrow, last week, and next day”. The discourse deixis found in utterance in novel Looking for Alaska is this, that, these, and those. Then, the social deixis found in utterance in novel Looking for Alaska is American President. the analysis of this research shows that the deixis used in the novel does not have the same reference. It depends on the context and situation of scene in the novel. Therefore, the readers must know the context and the situation of the novel in order to understand the reference of deitic words. Hopefully the findings of this study could be useful in providing understanding on deixis theory.

Abstract

This study was designed by using descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data because it explains derivation and inflection affixes that found on Selena Gomez Song Lyrics in Revival Album. This study aimed to find out the derivation and inflection affixes on Selena Gomez song lyric in Revival Album also to describe the function ofeach derivation and inflection affixes found. The data was collected by using documentation. The result of this study there are two types of affix were used. They were prefix and suffix. There is no infix was used. Derivational prefix which is found–re. Meanwhile, derivational suffixes which are found, they are–ed,-ly,-ness,-tion,-ion,-cal.-ful,-er,-ity and -al. The functions of derivational affixes consist of noun forming, adverb forming, adjective forming, and verb forming. On the other hand inflectional suffixes consists of -s,-ing, -ed. The function of inflectional suffixes consist ofthird singular person marker, past tense marker, progressive marker, and plural marker.The mostly used of inflection affixes was suffix –ing functioned as progressive marker. Based on the finding, it is concluded that learn derivation and inflection affixes can helps learners create a new words by adding prefix and suffix. In conclusion, derivation affixes occur to create new word from existing word in two ways, they can change the meaning of word or the word class. And inflection affixes occur not to used to produce new words in the language, but rather to indicate aspects of the grammatical function of word.Thesuggestion fromresearcher to isto study moreaboutthederivation and inflection affixesnotonly fromthebookbutalsofromanother sourceslikesongs, moviesubtitle,etc.And suggests the English learner should learn derivation and inflection affixes because from this affixes can change the part of speech and also create a new meaning that can improve their vocabulary.
