Abstract

Heat exchanger is one of the important device aboard the ship to reduce heat and prevent the overheating as overheating in the ship could damage the machinery used in the ship. There are parameters to be considered in the design, and operating the heat exchanger, especially in the autonomous ship. In this paper, a general review is provided of developments and improvements on heat exchanger and its relevance in an autonomous ship. Based on the finding, the design and heat exchanger typing should be adapted well to the applications in which they are used. As the usage in an autonomous ship, an risk and reliability assessment of heat exchanger have to be analyzed. Lastly, the development of heat transfer usage in an autonomous ship is still in the stage of monitoring and measuring the operating parameter. The maintenace and correction of the failures still need human presence.

Abstract

Ships are the preferred transportation fleet for export-import activities compared to air transportation, because of their large carrying capacity, making them relatively more profitable. Ships without cargo to sail safely will add ballast water as a stabilizer. Ballast water often carries a variety of foreign microorganisms that can harm the landfill ecosystem. On September 8, 2017, the ballast Water Management Convention (BWMC) was enacted, to prevent the spread of pathogenic microbes that are very harmful to health and the environment. The purpose of the study was to determine the understanding of private academy cadets on the provisions of BWMC. Data were collected using questionnaires and in-depth interviews, then descriptive analysis was carried out. Respondents were cadets of private maritime academy in Central Java, a total of 35 respondents. 6 respondents were excluded because they gave dishonest answers, so the sample used was 29. From the conclusion that there were still many respondents who did not understand the provisions of BWMC, it was evident from the respondents' answers to several questions that none of them were correct. Such as the question of when the BWMC was promulgated, when Indonesia ratified the BWMC, and the question of the D-1 Standard and the D-2 Standard of the BWMC. However, there are 13.79% of respondents already have a concern about the dangers of ballast water and the importance of immediately handling ballast water. Our suggestion is to disseminate information to private academy cadets through seminars, special training on ballast water, or inclusion in marine pollution course materials.

Abstract

The issue of climate change due to the greenhouse effect encourages various parties to try reducing emissions in energy fulfilment. In maritime sector, IMO has adopted mandatory measures to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) from international shipping, under IMO's pollution prevention treaty (MARPOL). Besides Carbon Oxides (COX), statistics show that other exhaust emissions from ships, such as Sulfur Oxides(SOX), Nitrogen Oxides(NOX) and Particulate Matters(PM) have also increased significantly in the past years due to the rapid increase of the maritime transportation. It is necessary for the shipping industries to find out the available clear energy to reduce the emission of GHG. This paper will discuss application of solar and wind energy on ship power systems, current status and future prospect.

Abstract

This aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness on distance learning during the Covid-19 Pandemic at Politeknik Pelayaran Malahayati. The type of research that will be used is descriptive research. The descriptive type in this study was to describe the effectiveness on distance learning during the Covid-19 Pandemic in the Politeknik Pelayaran Malahayati. Descriptive research is research conducted to determine the value of independent variables, either one or more (independent) variables without making comparisons, or connecting one variable to another. The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the education system in Indonesia into distance learning using online media. This is done in order to reduce and stop the chain of distribution. The use of information technology in distance learning during the Covid-19 pandemic at Politeknik Pelayaran Malahayati was considered effective by cadets/I in terms of 5 indicators, namely (1) cadet characteristics during long distance learning, (2) cadets' understanding of long distance learning material, (3) Learning tools used by lecturers in long distance learning, (4) Interaction in long distance learning, and (5) cadets' learning achievement. On the other hand, there are still learning weaknesses, namely internet network constraints, the physical usefulness of physical learning is lacking, and the type of task is monotonous. In theoretical courses, long distance learning is very understandable and effective, but practical courses that require direct skills are quite effective, there are still some difficulties for cadets. Educators have a very decisive role in the success of this online learning. Educators must create creative, innovative, and recreational learning methods that stimulate cadets to be willing to be actively involved in online learning and feel the meaning of distance learning.

Abstract

Fire hazards could be happened anywhere, it could be on a land (houses, buildings, forests, etc.) or on the sea (ships). This incident was occurred at KM Artamina Jaya. Fire prevention action performed by eliminate three elements of oxidation reaction, these are: fuel, oxygen, and heat. A method to break the three elements is spray water to the fire source. Existing or common fix fire distinguish usually use water spray or sprinkle. It takes a large amount of water to extinguish the fire and it conduce wets areas where not affected by fire. So that this research was invent to design a water-saving fire extinguish system based on Arduino Mega microcontroller. This study use 5-channel infrared flame sensors to detect the location of a fire and a DC motor sensor to spray water. By using 5-channel infrared flame sensors, the Arduino Mega microcontroller can determine which DC motor to spray water. The focus of this research is how to activate the fire extinguish pump or water sprayer according to the channel on the infrared flame sensor, which detects the source of the fire, and the system can activate more than one pump.

Abstract

The islands in Indonesia can only be connected through the seas between the islands. The sea is not a separator, but a unifier of various islands, regions and regions of Indonesia. Only through inter-island inter-coastal relations can the unity of Indonesia be realized. Shipping that connects the islands is the lifeblood of life as well as unifying the nation and state of Indonesia. The Port of Tenau Kupang is a fairly large sea port in the province of East Nusa Tenggara. Throughout the year, ships arrive at the port to transport various kinds of goods. One of the cargoes loaded at the port dock is general cargo. At this time, almost all general cargo is shipped using containers because it is considered safer during transportation and the loading process is faster. Therefore, loading of containers into ships has to be carried out using ship's cranes, but sometimes also assisted by mobile cranes from land. Thus, the time for unloading containers from ships is relatively long. The purpose of the voyage by bringing beef cattle other than to Surabaya is to Banjarmasin. Wooden ships departing from ports of origin such as Bima and Sheets to Banjarmasin, in addition to carrying cattle, also carry other agricultural products such as shallots, soybeans, and salt. Meanwhile, ships departing from the destinations of Bima and Sheets to Surabaya generally carry corn, soybeans, and cattle. The folding container model for transporting animals from Kupang - Surabaya supports the marine highway. . The purpose of this research is the selection of animal folding container models as a supporter of the Kupang – Surabaya sea toll route help expedite logistics delivery and help the welfare of the community, both in food delivery (living things, even ready-to-eat), while making containers as a special model for animal loads has a huge impact on the distribution of food needs. Based on the binomial logit method in the selection of modes here, it will get what percentage of the choice of modes to be selected, then simulated with the degree of preference of users of transportation mode services which are analyzed using the stated preference method. The research method is a mix of descriptive - quantitative methods. The result of this research is a folding container ship transportation model as a supporter of the marine highway.

Abstract

Pupuk Indonesia Logistik serves various activities that support shipping activities. In running its commercial business in sea transportation services, PT Pupuk Indonesia Logistik has nine ships, and one of them is KM Abusamah. PT Pupuk Indonesia Logistik encountered obstacles during unloading. These happened when KM Abusamah on Voyage 5 transported bulk urea fertilizer belonging to PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang, sailing from Tanjung Buyut Port in Palembang to Banyuwangi Port. However, when the unloading took place on April 21, 2021, the KRI Nanggala 402 accident occurred, which lost contact in the northern waters of Bali, thus hampering the unloading process. The purpose of the study was to identify the causes of return cargo at KM Abusamah, to know how to handle the return cargo of 124,893 MT of bulk urea fertilizer, and to know the responsibilities of the shipper, carrier, and consignee. This research aims to identify the cause of return cargo on KM Abusamah. The data analysis technique used is the descriptive analysis of fishbone diagrams with the application of 4M, namely Man, Method, Material, and Machine. The data was obtained through documentation, literature study, and interviews. The causes of cargo returns were maintenance activities and the KRI Nanggala 402 accident. Abstract

Since COVID-19 hit the world, Marine Colleges and schools in the world have experienced severe disruption. The challenge that arises is how to maintain the quality of education and training while still upholding the Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency as required in the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW). To solve this problem, the IMO through a Circular in 2020 requires each member state to develop specific tips on dealing with the problem. Blended Learning is one of the special tips or solutions to solve it. The purpose of this study is to explore the implementation of blended learning in Nautical Astronomy courses, develop appropriate blended methods and see the effectiveness of the implementation of blended learning. The method used is participatory research of actions with quantitative descriptive analysis. The subjects used were 27 students of the Diploma III Study Program in Nautical Studies with one lecturer who taught the course. The results showed that blended learning is very good to be implemented with criteria including: 1) it needs the readiness of planning and a mature learning system; 2) development of complete and engaging blended learning content according to bloom verbs; 3) in-depth and routine evaluation and supervision is carried out during the learning process. Blended learning in the Nautical Astronomy course has the advantage of how the material preparation is presented very well. However, there are still various weaknesses including the adaptation process of learning delivery between lecturers and students because blended-based lectures in this course have never been carried out before.

Abstract

The implementation of ferry transportation must be able to ensure the comfort, security and safety of passengers and goods. Port management officials and ship operators are the main stakeholders in improving safety. The lower supervision led to higher accident potential. Supervision to safety can only be carried out by operators with appropriate competence. This research uses descriptive quantitative method. Descriptions are carried out on symptoms or phenomena related to ships, productivity, port operators and ship certificates. Through this research, it is known that the passenger carrying capacity of the ship from Bira to Pamatata has a surplus, but the vehicle carrying capacity is known to be minus so that the vehicle loading space is always full when sailed. Based on the Value Range and Qualification table, it is known that port processing is in the category of very threatening shipping safety because port operators do not yet have competence if measured based on the certificate they have. All operating ships have a complete ship certificate in accordance with applicable regulations
