Abstract

The present study aims to formulate and evaluate oral disintegrating tablet of buspirone. A drug that is used for the treatment of anxiety management was prepared by direct compression method using natural disintegrates. Eight formulations (F1-F8) of oral disintegrating tablets of buspirone were prepared by using natural disintegrates. The prepared tablets were evaluated for hardness, friability, thickness, drug content uniformity, water absorption, wetting time, and disintegration time and in-vitro dissolution study. Based on the results of FT-IR and DSC studies, majority of the excipients were found to be compatible with buspirone which were used for the preparation of buspirone oral disintegrating tablets. Among all the formulations F3 (containing 15mg of natural disintegrate banana powder) was considered to be the best formulation, which releases up to 98% drug in 8 minutes. From this study, we can conclude that, a formulated tablet of buspirone containing banana powder is better and effective to meet the patient compliance.

Abstract

Aims: The aim of this study was to assess facial attractiveness and to check if the numeric facial analysis can determine this attractiveness for a sample of Iraqi adults' females and characterize the studied sample according to subjective concepts of facial esthetics in esthetically pleasant, esthetically acceptable and esthetically unpleasant, considering frontal photographs.  Subjects and Methods: Forty frontal standardized photograph of females aged between 20 and 22 years old. The frontal photograph and lateral photograph were obtained by asking each female to look to the center of the lens and at a distant mirror respectively which is placed in front of her face. All the frontal photographs were evaluated by using our own esthetics criteria (orthodontist evaluation) as graduation in: pleasant, acceptable and not pleasant. The numeric facial analysis was then performed. Linear, proportional and angular measurements were compared among groups. Results: The sample was consisted of 25% of unpleasant, 55% of acceptable and 20% of pleasant according to subjective analysis.  In most measurements there were no differences among groups. Just in one linear measurement (sn-U1 FILS) significant statistical difference was observed. Group III has higher right and a left symmetry angel despite it has lower facial symmetry Conclusions: In the evaluation of facial measurements, it was observed that there were statistically non-significant except for the sn-U1 FILS, which is statistically significant. The photographic evaluations require more than one evaluator in different specialties to give more reliable judgment. The facial analysis influenced by, age, gender, cultural and racial factors. Keywords: Attractiveness, Facial esthetics, Facial analysis.

Abstract

Unavailability of drug in appropriate amounts on apt time at the desired site of action can lead to further complications in the diseases which can turn into more deadly condition. Timely delivery of right amount of drug is very crucial in proper therapy, thereby avoiding the adverse effects of the drug. Feedback regulated closed loop delivery system can controllably deliver the drug on demand which means the release rates can be increased, decreased or totally stopped, as a response towards physiochemical response produced by the body. The system can be designed in such a way that the concentration of the drug released from the system is proportional to the degree of stimuli produced by the body. Various diseases and disorders progress by feedback loop mechanisms, owing to which biochemical signal triggered delivery of drug can be achieved in such conditions. The system is also advantageous in case of some drugs whose fluctuation in plasma concentrations is unenviable. In the current work, self-regulated drug delivery devices designed for various conditions like diabetes mellitus, hypercoagulation, cancer, microbial infections and opioid poisoning are reviewed. Various combinations of smart polymers are employed to design such devices that work by responding to the feedback produced by the body.

Abstract

Objectives: Coronary artery ectasia (CAE) has been defined as a dilated artery luminal diameter that is at least 50%greater than the diameter of the normal portion of the artery. Isolated CAE is defined as CAE without significant coronary artery stenosis and isolated CAE has more pronounced inflammatory symptoms. Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is widely used as a marker of inflammation and an indicator of cardiovascular outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease. We examined a possible association between NLR and the presence of isolated CAE. Study design: The study population included 150 patients (78 male; 72 female; mean age 53.8±6.5).including 50 patients with CAE and 50 patients with coronary artery disease and 50patients with normal coronary arteries. Baseline neutrophil, lymphocyte and NLR measured at admission in all patients. Results: The NLR significantly higher in patients with CAE than dose with normal coronary arteries (2.36 ±1.16 Vs 1.44±.58 p<0.001).The isolated CAE and CAD groups were similar in terms of NLR, neutrophil counts and lymphocyte counts. Conclusion: The N/R ratio is higher in patients with CAE. This ratio is related to presence of CAE.Keywords: Coronary Artery, Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio.

Abstract

The interaction between viral and host immune factors plays an important role in natural history of chronic HCV infection .We aimed to determine serum level of MBL and its relation to grades of liver fibrosis in chronic HCV patients.we studied the impact of serum level of MBL on early virological responsein chronic HCV patients.subjects and methods: included 70 HCV patients (40 HCV patients with liver fibrosis grades <F3 (group Ι) &30 HCV patients with liver. fibrosis ≥F3 (groupΙΙ) according to METAVIR score), who fulfilled inclusion & exclusion criteria of the National Egyptian treatment protocol of treatment of CHC, in addition to 16 control subjects. All studied cases were subjected to history taking, thorough clinical examination, routine investigation(fasting blood sugar, serum creatinine, alkaline phosphatase, ALT, AST, total bilirubin, albumin ,complete blood picture ,prothrombin activity, alpha feto-protein, TSH) ,  abdominal ultrasonography and liver biopsy in addition to ELISA for MBL. Results: mean values of MBL was significantly increased among group 2 patients more than that of group 1(P=0.001). After 12wk of combined therapy, it was found that 61 patients (87.14%) were responders to antiviral therapy, while9 patients (12.85%) were non responders.  The mean value of MBL among responders was 64.44± 26.75 while it was 90.41± 82.41 without any statistically significant differences. So it can be concluded that MBL plays an important role in the pathogenesis of liver fibrosis in HCV liver disease. MBL has no impact on early virological response among patients with chronic HCV infection.
