Abstract

Conjunctions or connecting words are categories that connect words with words, clauses with clauses, or sentences with sentences or between paragraphs and paragraphs. Conjunctions have many types and functions that are divided, this causes students to not understand the division. Folklore is a cultural heritage of the past that has begun to be forgotten. The purpose of this study is to describe students' ability to identify conjunctions in folklore The occurrence of Lau Kawar in class VIII SMP PAB 5. This research method uses descriptive research with a quantitative approach. The population in this study were 114 grade VIII students, and the sample used was 28 students. The conclusion obtained from this study is the ability of students to identify conjunctions in the Folklore of Lau Kawar by using a description test by class VIII 3 SMP PAB 5 Academic Year 2022-2023 with an average value of 70.71 rounded up to 71 with a standard deviation of 10, 51. The average value is in category B "good".

Abstract

In everyday life, people sometimes communicate with other people with mixed language and also as nowadays trend in social. There are words in English that commonly used in our daily conversation as Indonesian people to make the sentences clear and easy to be understood. This study aims to analyze the improvement of speaking skills through the habit of mixing languages in daily communication and conversation activities. The purpose of this research is to explain about the effect of mixed language in improving students' speaking skills and increasing their self-confidence. The researcher uses observation and interview approach to do the data collection of the sixth semester student in English Education Department Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al Washliyah Medan. The respondents were five students of the sixth semester students in English English Education Department Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al Washliyah Medan.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the culture values represented in an English textbook provided by the Ministry of Education and Culture in terms of the type of culture values represented. This is a qualitative research, the data were collected in the form of the reading passages in the textbook. The illustrations that accompany the text analyzed if it assists the interpretation of the meaning to collect data and data analysis in this research was descriptive analysis in order to reveal what cultures values are represented in the textbook, the contents in the reading passages were categorized into the source culture, the target culture, the international culture. The result of this research was found that there was a significant on the findings and discussion the findings and discussion, it can be concluded that the result from analyzing the text book focus on 45 the reading passages, there are 9% that present source culture (SC), 18% present target culture (TC), 26% present international target culture (IC), and until 47% culture free(CF) dominate the cultural content on the textbook “Interlanguage for Second Grader Students of Junior High School by Joko Priyana”.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Higgs Domino's Online Games on Legal System Materials in Indonesia in Class XI Civic Education Subjects at SMA AL-Washliyah Tanjung Morawa TP. 2021-2022. The population of this study were all class XI-1 Private High School Al-Washliyah Tanjung Morawa. The sample of this study amounted to 44 of the 130 existing population. The method used in this study is an experimental method with a research design of one group pre test and post test design. The instrument used is a multiple choice questionnaire. The average value before using the legal system method in Indonesia is 41.75 and the standard deviation is 62.36, while the average value after using the legal system method in Indonesia is 86.27 and the standard deviation is 95.70. Thus, it can be said that the test scores using the legal system method in Indonesia in PPKN subjects are higher than before using the legal system method in Indonesia in PPKN subjects. Based on the data above, it can be concluded that the legal system method in Indonesia in PPKN subjects has a positive effect on the influence of Higgs Domino Online Games on Legal System Materials in Indonesia in PPKN Subjects for Class XI SMA AL-Washliyah Tanjung Morawa TP.2021-2022.

Abstract

Vocabulary is one of the elements in language. In English there four skills, they are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In mastering English, the basic thing that students have to learn and understand is vocabulary, because the mastery of vocabulary influence to another skills in English. The objective of this research was to know whether using word square game is able or not to improve students’ vocabulary mastery at the second year of MTs S Darussalam Parmeraan. This research was aimed to find out the improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery after giving treatment using word square game. This research used pre-experimental design, with one group pre-test and post- test. The pre-test was given before treatment to know their prior vocabulary, while the post-test was given after treatment to know their vocabulary after getting treatment. The population of this research was the second year of MTs S Darussalam Parmeraan. The researcher took VII.3 as the sample which was consisting of 24 students. The result of this research was found that there was a significant between the pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 53.8, while the mean score of posttest was 72.33. The result finding that score of t-test value was 8.73 higher than the score of t-table was 1.714 for the level significance 0.05 degree of freedom 23. Based on the result above, the researcher concluded that using word square game was able to improve students’ vocabulary mastery at the second year of MTs S Darussalam Pameraan.

Abstract

The research is aimed to find out the effectiveness of watching movie of students’ speaking ability at the twelfth grade of MAN Singkil. The subject of this research was aclass XII IPA 1 as an experimental class and class XII IPA 2 as a control class. This thesis applied Experimental research. The research instrument is the speaking test in the form of a pre-test and post-test. The data analyzed by T-test. To analyze the data, the researcher determined the scoring classification which includes pronunciation, grammatical, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. The population of the research was the twelfth-grade students of MAN Singkil. The sample was class XII IPA 1 and XII IPA 2 the total of samples is 58 students. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant influence from the use of watching movie media. This can be seen from the defference in the average scores of students from the pre-test and post-test in the experimental class which increased from 62 to 89. The average post-test score in the control class was 53 while the post-test score in the experimental class was 89 is higher than the average value of the control class. This means that watching movie media can be applied to improve students’ speaking ability.

Abstract

The objective of this research is finding out whether or not there is significant The Effect of Using Herringbone Technique on Students’ Achievemenet in Reading Narrative Text at the second semester of the grade of SMAS Budisatrya Medan in academic year 2021/2022.Reading comprehension is the ability to get comprehension, including to recognize the unfamiliar words or sentence in the text. Comic series is one of media that uses some comics related to the story given. These comics has function to describe the story. It is an appropriate media to be taught in Senior High School level to open up their mind widely by reading passage.There were two variables in this research. The independent variable is the word herringbone technique (X) and dependent variable is the students’ reading comprehension (Y). The research methodology in this research is Quasi experimental design with experimental and control class. The population of this research is the eight grade of SMAS Budisatrya Medan. In determining the sampling technique. The samples of research were 2 classes VIII A consisted of 15 students while in VIII B consisted 15 students. In collecting the data, there were pre-test and post-test and instrument. After  giving the post-test ,the researcher analyzed the data of research . From the result, it was obtained that t-count is higher than t-critical (46 >39,33).  Therefore, there is significant influence of using series pictures towards students’ reading comprehension in narrative text at the second semester of the eleven grade of SMAS Budisatrya Medan in academic year 2021/2-2022.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the student’s listening improvement by using instructional media for English Song, students grade VIII MTs. Muhammadiyah 13 Tanjung Morawa. The lack of students’ listening ability through was caused by the learning condition which was not using media so that the learning process run so monotonous and it impact to the students anthusiasm. This case made the students felt boring. In order to achieve the goals that have been determined, then this study uses a two group pretest and posttest experimental research methods. The number of samples in this research were 20 students. The result of t-observed was 5.8 and t-table was 1.68 it means that t-observed higher than t-table. Because the result of t-observed is higher than t-table, it means that by using the media English songs can showed a significant affect on the improvement of listening VIII MTs. Muhammadiyah 13 Tanjung Morawa. The reseacher sincerely expected that enthusiasm are able to try and apply the appropriate media and in accordance with the material to be taught, one of them is the use of English song media for listening improvement.

Abstract

This research is aimed at improving the reading comprehension of MTs Al-Washliyah Jati Rejo, Kec.Galang grade VIII students using QAR strategy. In conducting this study, the researcher applied Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the method of research. It was conducted in two cycles and each cycle consisted of four phases: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. This research answered two questions (1) How is the implementation of using Question Answer Relationship (QAR) to enhance the students’ reading comprehension in the narrative text at the eight grade of MTs Al-Washliyah Jati Rejo, Kec.Galang in the academic year of 2019/2020? (2) How is the result of the use of Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) strategy in the narrative text at the eight grade of MTs Al-Washliyah Jati Rejo, Kec.Galang in the academic year of 2019/2020? In reference to the application of the two cycles, the results of the research revealed that the use of schema activation strategy successfully improved the students‘ reading comprehension. The students’ interest and attention in the process of teaching and learning English, especially reading, reading improved. They were also able to explore many words related to the topic of the lesson. In relation to their comprehension of English texts, the students were able to identify main ideas and supporting details of paragraphs correctly

Abstract

This research was conducted to improve students' ability in writing procedure text using project-based learning. The formulation of the problem is: “Does the use of project-based learning improve the students' ability in writing procedure text”. The aims  of the research is: “To find out whether the use of project-based  learning improves the students' ability in writing procedure text”. In this research, the subject of the research were the grade XI-1 students at SMA Al-Washliyah Tanjung Morawa  in  2021/2022 academic  years  which  consists  of  30  students.  In  carrying out  this  research,  the  researcher  used  classroom  action  research  (CAR)  as  a research  method. The researcher  used  the  Kemmis  and  Mc  Taggart  model. The researchers  and  English  teachers  collaborated  onthis  research.  Researchers  as teachers  and  teachers  as  observers.  This  research  was  carried  out  based  on research  procedures,  namely  planning,  action,  observation,  and  reflection.  This research  consisted  of  two  cycles.  One  cycle  consisted  of  two  meetings.The instruments used for  get data were interview guidelines, questionnaire, test, and field notes. To analyze student scores, the mean of students, the class percentage, and percentage of  students'  improvement formulas  are used. The results  of the research  using  project-based  learning  showed  that  there  was  an  increase  in students'  ability  in  writing  procedure  text.  Students  get  grades  gradually  until students  get  good  grades.  The  minimum  completeness  criteria  score  (KKM)  in English subjects is 75. The average score of students on the pre-test is 61.13. The average score of students in post-test one is 69.06 and there are 40% of students who can get the KKM score. The students' mean score on post-test two was 78.4. And there are 83.3% of students who can get the KKM score. This means that the research has succeeded in achieving the success criteria, namely 75% of students get the KKM score. In addition, there were very positive responses from students and teachers regarding the use of project-based learning.So, it can be concluded that project-based learning can improve students' ability in writing procedure text
