Abstract

Biological parameters of insect pests is very important in testing the resistance of rice plants against brown plant hopper. This research aims to study the amount and duration of stage egg, nymph, imago, and the life cycle of brown plant hopper on four varieties of rice. The methods used in research was Complete Random Design  with four treatments (variety of IR 64, Batang Piaman, Cisokan, and IR 42) and eight replications. Research data were analyzed using variance analysis and continued with List Significant Different (LSD) at 5% level. The results of research showed that the number and duration of stage egg, nymph, imago, and cycle time of brown plant hopper in four rice varieties were different. Number of egg, nymph, and imago were lowest in 64 IR varieties, while the highest was IR 42 variety. Stage of eggs and nymphs were the shortest in IR 42 varieties, while the longest were IR variety 64. Imago stage was the shortest in IR 64 variety, while longest was the variety IR 42. The life cycle of brown plant hopper were shortest in IR 42 varieties, while longest was the variety IR 64. The results of this study can be concluded that the IR 64 varieties more resistant than the varieties IR 42, Cisokan, and Batang Piaman based on stage of egg, nymph, and imago.

Abstract

Antimicrobial activity of crude extracts and essential oil of Callistemon viminalis against several pathogenic bacteria and one yeast (Candida albicans) were assessed using sensitivity test and MIC determination test. Hexane extract showed the strongest antibacterial activity compared with other crude extracts. While essential oil of C. viminalis  in particular showed strong anticandidal activity. GC-MS analysis of crude hexane extract and essential oil have identified the presence of eucalyptol, α-pinene, α-phellandrene and D-limonene as active antimicrobial compounds in all analyzed samples.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze skills of metacognition students of 24 State SMP in Malang City base on pre knowledge, class level, and sex category . The instruments used in this study were meta-cognition of inventory junior and rating scale of meta-cognition skill. Anava Factorial is continued with further test by differentiate test with LSD (Least Significant Different) are used in analyzing the data. The result of the study showed female students are more active than male students in questioning, answering questions and presenting the result of observation. Female students are superior in meta-cognition than male students. For students in class 8, the metacognition are lower than those who are in class 7 and class 9. Based on pre knowledge, class level, and sex show meta-cognition in the level of OK

Abstract

A research in fish varieties captured with Langga seine has been conducted at Fishery Auction at Pusong Baru Kecamatan Banda Sakti Lhokseumawe city from 16 to 21 June 2009. The aim of this research is to investigate the varieties of fish captured by fisherman and the population of fish which was under threatened by the usage of Langga seine. This research used survey method with census technique by which the researcher directly visiting Fishery Auction at Pusong Baru Lhokseumawe city. The result showed that there were 73 species of fish classified as 11 Ordos and 31 families. The fish varieties comprised 45 Perciformes ordo from 18 family (62%), 7 Scombriformes Ordo (10%), 5 Clupeiformes Ordo (7%), 4 Scorpaeniformes Ordo (5%), 2 Atheriniformes Ordo (3%), 3 Percessoces Ordo (4%), 2 Pleuronectiformes Ordo (3%), 2 Tetraodontiformes (3%). Meanwhile there was only one species from each ordo Cyprinodontiformes, Siluriformes dan Gadiformes (1%). Perciformes ordo is the most fish varieties found at Fishery Auction at Pusong Baru Lhokseumawe city.

Abstract

The research aims are (1) to know the duration of stigma receptive and pollen viability maximally as guidance in artificial pollination process in Melon; (2) to know the degree of success of artificial pollination and its relation with production (quantity) and quality (weight) of Melon, has been conducted. The research method is used to determine pollen viability and receptive stigma. Therefore, experimental method is used to test the success of artificial pollination toward production and fruit quality. The obtained data was analyzed by Anava and regression. The result indicated that (1) Receptive stigma maximum occurred by the time the flower opens; (2) Pollen viability maximum occurred a day after the flower opens; (3) Quantity and quality fruit through the process of artificial pollination increase 35,51 % compared to natural pollination.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the impact of lecture model of Genetics towards students’ metacognition skills based on class category, basic academic skill, and types of subjects. This study was conducted at FMIPA Biology department of UM involving students in education class and non-education class for 2 semester. The instruments used in the research were observation sheets of Genetics lecture, metacognition awareness inventory (MAI), and documents of observation sheet. Anakova with Least Significant Difference (LSD) was used to analyse the data. The result showed that the steps in the lecture model of Genetics comprising instucting reading assessment related to lecture material, composing summary of reading material, setting questions and the answers, and having presentation and discussion. Project-based practical work and classic practical work were used in practical work assessment. Evaluation tools was used based on average score of paper and pencil test and alternative assessment. Students’ metacognition skills were not influenced by class factor (education and non-education, basic academic skill [high or low], and types of Genetics subjects [Genetics I and Genetics II).

Abstract

A research in the relationship between education level and housewives’ health reproduction knowledge had been conducted. Data was colected from 27 February to 5 March 2009 at Desa Rukoh Syiah Kuala Banda Aceh. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between education level and housewives’ health reproduction knowledge. The population in the research was 409 housewives in the productive ages at Desa Rukoh. Purposive sampling was applied to gain 35% of sample from the population (144 housewives). Parameters of this study were knowledge, understanding, and awareness towards health reproduction. Data was gained from questionaires. Product-moment correlation was used to analyse the data. The result shows  r= 0,533 rtable = 0,159 (N=144) at 5% significant level. This value indicated that there is a relationship between education level and housewives health reproduction knowledge at desa Rukoh Syiah Kuala Banda Aceh.

Abstract

This research aim to  know : (1). species of grass eaten by deer and species of grass predominating area of savannah Bekol. (2). Species eaten by bull, and (3). Factors causing downhill it  quality of savannah Bekol. Method used for inventories of species eaten by deer and bull is  method of transek combined with method  square. While to collect data of  factors causing downhill it  quality of savannah of Bekol with  direct perception  in  field and muster relevant information  from data sekunder. The conclusion  from  this research is (1). Found  12 species of grass eaten by deer, and 3 species among others as dominant species that is bayapan (Brachiaria reptans), red lamuran (Dichantium coricosum), and  tuton (Dactyloctenium aegyptium). (2). found  50  species as food of bull in savannah Bekol  from 60 of species of compiler savannah of this area. (3).  Factors influencing reduction of quality of  savannah in Bekol is : Invasion A. nilotia, bush groaning savannah, existence of tread  by animal, fire effect, and over grazing.

Abstract

Geloina erosa as one of Bivalve species has growth and development comprising the proliferation of the shell length, volume, and body weight. Generally, the growth of G. erosa has negative allometric, isometric and  positive allometric fashion. This encourages the study of G. erosa living in the region of mangrove ecosystem of west-coast of Aceh Besar. The objectives of the research are to determine the growth pattern of shell length against body weight as well as the growth pattern of shell length against its total body weight. The research was conducted from February 2006 to January 2007 in the region of mangrove ecosystem of west-coast of Aceh Besar. The region was divided into three different locations. Each location was set a sample square with 10m x 10m in size which was perpendicular to coastal lines. There were 10 sub-squares also set in every sample square with 50cm x 50cm in size. Sample collection in the sub-square was carried out by scratching and disturbing the bottom of the waters in order to sieve them. G. erosa was then measured for its shell length, body weight, and total body weight. The growth pattern was analyzed by using Excel program and t-test. The result showed that a negative allometric growth pattern was found in the measurement of shell length against total body weight of G. erosa, whereas an isometric pattern was found of the measurement of shell length against its body weight. Moreover, a positive allometric pattern was figured out in the measurement of shell length against total body weight. The proliferation of shell length, body weight and total body weight has contributed approximately 58% to 59%. This indicates that the growth pattern of G. erosa in the region of mangrove ecosystem of west-coast of Aceh Besar has negative allometric, isometric and positive allometric fashion.

Abstract

Fungi are an important role in litter decomposition process, because most of them able to decompose lignocelluloses in the litter. Fungal colonization on leaf litter of Acacia mangium was observed on shaded and unshaded places to study pattern of fungal colonization in the Acacias forest floor. Samples were taking by quadrate method. Fungal colonization was observing by removed surface of litter layer on 1x1 m2 area and then observed them and measured each of fungal colony  used metal rule. The result showed that there are different sizes of fungal colonies in both shaded and unshaded places. Colonies size at shaded place were 40 to 100 cm while at unshaded place were 25 to 50 cm. Fungal mycelium in each colonies not only distribute on the litter layers surface but also distribute into the bottom of litter layers.
