Abstract

Mangrove oyster G. erosa undergo a process of growth and development. The process of growth occuring in this oyster of which is the length, width and weight. The process occurs since the ongoing growth process of conception until adulthood. The aim study is to determine (1) growth coefficient G. erosa, and (2) the length of infinity that can be achieved by the mangrove clam G. erosa in the area of the West Coast of Aceh Besar district. The study was divided into three locations, and observation was conducted in June-August 2009. In each set of four plots in each sample sampling size 10m x 10m and in each plot established 10 subplots each measuring 50cm x 50cm. All samples sampling subplots were damaged and done filtering to obtain G. erosa. The main result was the growth coefficient of mangrove oysters G. erosa in the western coastal area of Aceh Besar district was 0,230 mm, and length of infinity that can be achieved was 84.58 mm. Mangrove oyster G. erosa living in the mangrove ecosystem of the West Coast region of West Aceh Besar district, may reach a length of up to 84.58 mm.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of komarasca (compost-activated carbon, liquid smoke) results of processing solid organic waste on plant growth god leaves (Gynura pseudochna (Lour) DC). Solid organic waste comes from the market in Bogor City consisting of leaves, wood, bamboo, and twigs of plants. Compost is made by waste composting techniques biodekomposer type leaves using Effective Microorganism (EM-4), whereas activated charcoal and liquid smoke is made through the pyrolysis process of solid waste mixture consisting of 50% wood, 25% bamboo and 25% twigs of plants. Seedling leaf plant using is the god of tuber crops from the Garden Study Center medicinal Cikabayang IPB, Bogor.  Tuber is cut into pieces measuring 1.5 to 2.0 cm, and then sowing to grow and produce leaves 2-3. Planting medium used a mixture of soil-compost-activated carbon treatment made by certain variations and each is inserted into the plastic polyback. God leaf seedlings planted simultaneously in poliback was completed, the planting medium. Observation the growth of plants includes the amount of leaf, stem height and number of tillers. After a 30-day-old plants sprayed with pesticides. The observation on days 0, 10, 20, and 30 showed an increase in the number of leaves, stem height and number of tillers. The observation after the plants sprayed with liquid smoke showed good plant growth the number of leaves, stem height and number of tillers is increasing especially in the treatment of M5P1 (addition of activated carbon with steam activation results and liquid smoke).

Abstract

The objectivees of this research were; to acquered of vegetation in Banda Aceh beach after tsunami, to find expression about of composition, association, species diversity index (H’), similarity index (IS), and species distribution pattern.The stage of research were; observation and segmentation of study area. The size of study area is 420 ha, and sample area is 10% of population. The station of sampling is (a). Meulaboh District Beach (MDB), (b). Aceh Jaya District Beach (AJDB), and Lhoknga District Beach (LDB). For each of sampling location a given ten sampling quadrat with five replication. total sample are 50 quadrats. The observated variable is number of  spec                ies, absolute diversity, absolute frequency, and absolute dominance. The calculated of importance value used formula is DR + FR + DMR., and calculated of species diversity index with Shannon-Wiener formula. The category of species diversity index is; if H’1 very low category, H’1-2 low category, H’2-3 median category, and H’3-4 high category.The result of this research are; (a). The vegetation physiognomy in Meulaboh District Beach, (b).Aceh Jaya District Beach, and Lhoknga District Beach were fundamental changed after tsunami, (c). The planting of mangrove species in Aceh West Beach didn’t resulted yet optimalization, (d). Dominance of tree in Aceh West Beach were Casuarina equisetifolia, and Cocos nucifera, dominance of underbrush were Calatropis gigantea, and Vernonia cinerea, and dominance of herbs species were Ipomoea pescaprae, and Chloris barbata (5). The moment effort is necessary for serious reclamation in Aceh West Beach after tsunami specific.

Abstract

The research of antibacterial ability from Anacardium occidentale (Anacardiaceae), Lawsonia inermis (Lythraceae), Averrhoa bilimbi, Averrhoa carambola (Oxalidaceae), Capsicum frutescens and Solanum torvum (Solanaceae) to Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Staphylococcus  aureus ATCC 29213 was done from Mei until November 2010 at Microbiology laboratory, Natural Science, Syiah Kuala University. Leave and barks extracts of plant was soluted using n-Hexane solution. Antibacterial activities was tested by using diffusion method with each concentrations 10%, 20%, and 30%. The result showed that plants leaves and barks had ability to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus  aureus ATCC 29213. The largest of inhibition zone was formed by L. inermis leaves extract in 6 mm. Meanwhile C. frutescens barks extract was showed inhibition zone in 5 mm.

Abstract

BKL-1 and BKU-31 bacteria isolates were collected from digestive tract of kerapu lumpur (Epinephelus tauvina) and identified as Serratia marcescens biogp 1 dan Serratia marcescens respectively. BKL-1 crude protease were obtained after 27 hours incubation period in Nutrient Broth (NB) medium added with peptone 0.5%, NaCl 0.5%, lactose 0.1%, and CaCl2 0.1%. BKU-31 crude proteases were obtained in NB medium added with 0.1% skimmed milk (NBS) for 18 hours incubation period. The highest activity of proteases of S. marcescens biogp 1 BKL-1 reached after 27 hours of incubation, namely 0.002 U/ml with protein concentration 0.064 mg/ml. The proteases of S. marcescens BKU-31, on the other hand, reached their highest activity (0.064 U/ml) at 24 hours of incubation with protein concentration 0.056 mg/ml.The optimum temperature crude BKL-1 proteases were 30°C, whereas BKU-31 proteasess had the optimum temperature of 50 ºC.

Abstract

This research was done in wild life conservation area of Sibela mountain, South Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province from November 2009 to February 2010. The purpose of the research is to give evidence about how is the people’s behavior towards the wild life conservation area of Sibelia Mountain, the. The population of the research was all of patriarchs in three villages: Sawadai village, Tuokona and Gandasuli village. Furthermore, 46-47 people are chosen randomly from each village to get 140 patriarchs of total sample. Questionnaire instrument was used to collect the data. Questionnaire instrument and closed response interview guideline were used to collect the data of people’s behavior toward the wild life area conservation. Prior to distribute the instrument to the respondents, a test is carried out to the people who live in east Halmahera wild life area excluding from the research sample to get its validity and reliability. The result of analysis on people’s behavior in three different villages living in wild life area shows that they still have a low level of land utilization (about 20% - 25%). This result indicates that respondents who answered the questions of utilize of the conservation area tend to be in small number. This result also shows that the people of the three villages are having a tendency to do activities that caused environmental damage (contra conservation). The analysis result on people’s behavior in maintaining wild life conservation area of Sibela Mountain is also at a low level. From the three villages, the percentages are 8% - 13%. It indicates that people’s behavior tendency of maintaining or preserve the conserved area is at a very low level.

Abstract

This research is conducted to reveal : (1) the application of science study strategy with CLIS study model to improve the students’ understanding of earth and universe concept, (2) the science study strategy with CLIS study model to improve the academic attitude of students, (3) the teacher’s and students’ response to science study strategy with CLIS. Method of the research is a Classroom Action Research  (CAR), consisting of three cycles. The data were collected using a test, an observation, and an interview. The result of the students’ concept understanding test was processed statistically using “t-Test”. The improvement of student’s understanding was corelated with Pearson Correlation Technique, while the interview and observation were described, then concluded. The result of data analysis indicate that the model of CLIS for universe and earth concept can improve the mastery of concept. In the first cycle action, it is seen that the acquirement of t0 was 9.069; in the second cycle the t value was 4.054; and in the third cycle it was 9.442; which is bigger than tt of only 2.025. It indicates that CLIS study method has improved the students’ concept understanding in every cycle. The correlation result of the first cycle indicates that the value of r is  - 0.273; in the second cycle, the value of r was equal to 0.222. While in the third cycle, the value of r is 0.000. It indicates that the CLIS model study does not influence the improvement of the students’ academic attitude. This study model requires much longer time than study method usually used by the teacher, but the students are happy to study with CLIS study model.

Abstract

Learning the science of biology still tends to prioritize the acquisition of results (products) in the form of knowledge, memory, and ability to think logically so that most students still think that the science of biology is a lesson to memorize. As revealed by Amien (1991) that an analysis of existing biological science learning at this point in a philosophical emphasis on process and scientific products, but its implementation was still more emphasis on product rather than a scientific process. This is certainly necessary to get attention, because such learning can lead to underdeveloped, or even "kill "the creativity of students. One alternative effort to develop creative thinking ability in learning biology science is by conducting brainstorming. Brainstorming able to encourage creativity and generalize a variety of ideas quickly. Brainstorming can be used to solve a specific problem, answer questions, introduce a new subject, increase interest, and record the knowledge and attitudes.

Abstract

This research aimed to identify misconception of senior high school students class XI in SMAN 1 Lhokseumawe in learning concept of factors that affect chemical reaction rate. The instrument used in this research was 20 multiple choice questions with reasons and equipped by CRI (Certainty of Response Index) which is used to measure the degree of certainty of students’ answers. There were 38 students as respondents in this research. The data shown that 13,16% of students held misconceptions relating to the effect of surface area on rates of reaction, 57,89% students held misconceptions relating to the effect of catalyst on rates of reaction, 57,89% students held misconceptions relating to the effect of temperature on rates of reaction, However there none of students misunderstood about the effect of reactant concentration and pressure  to chemical reaction rate and most of them understood about the collision theory.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine Aedes mosquitos’ breeding places at Darussalam area including Kopelma village, Tungkob, Limpok, Barabung and Rukoh.  Exploration method and purposive sampling were used in this research, within a hundred of larva sample location and respondents. The data were obtained by larva inventarization and habitat identification. The parameter observe in the research were number of the breeding places. The data were analysed descriptively. The result of this research showed that the breeding places were dominantly found at houses located in the Darussalam village and Limpok. Precisely, Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus were found in pure indoor and outdoor containers.
