Abstract

The purpose of this study was to discover the potential of isolate chitinolitic bacteria, hot springs, as biological control of Aedes aegypti L. larva. This research used Completed Randomized Designed (RAL) factorial with two factor, isolate types and concentration of isolatechitinolitic bacteria. The research procedure includes the maintenances of Aedes aegypti L. larva, isolation and selection of chitinolitic bacteria, and biological test. Data were processed by using Varian Analysis (ANAVA). The result of this study indicated that four isolates were test on larva of Aedes aegypti L. masquito, instar II. Giving different isolat chitinolitic bacteria and concentration showed no significant differences in larva death (P0,05). The highest average of larva death was exhibited at the treatments of 1% of IS 2 and IS 3 isolate. The occurance of chitinolitic bacteria influenced the growth of pupa, it can be showed that the pupa was not formed from each consentration and isolate that caused the death in larva signed by the part of body and larva siphon were pale and digestive tract was dark.

Abstract

The objectives of the research were: (1) to determine the distribution pattern, association, and interaction of plant species, and (2) to determine the relationship between life form and the distribution pattern of species. Quadrate method was used in this research. Determination of species distribution pattern was calculated using Poisson Distribution formula. The result indicated that: (1) The species richness were dominated by grasses, reaching 20,63% of the 33 observed species,  21 of them were in a clumped distribution, 7 species in a reguler, and 5 species were at random pattern. (2) There are relationship between life form and the distribution of the plant species. The multy-plants tend to have a clumped distribution pattern, and single plant tend to heve a reguler or random distribution pattern.

Abstract

Tea is the most consumed beverage after water and touted as a beverage rich in benefits. In addition to the benefits of tea, there are also substances contained in tea that result in less good for the body, the substance is caffeine. Amount of caffeine depending on the spesies, processing and brewing method. The research "Influence of Weight and Time Brewing on the Tea Caffeine " has been done since May to September 2012 at the Laboratory of Chemical FMIPA Unsyiah. The purpose of the research were to know the weight and time brewing on tea caffeine, and to know the weight and length of the maximum brewingon tea caffeine. The method used experimental design with Completely Randomized Design (CRD) 3 x 3 factorial pattern with three times replication. Two factors examined were heavy tea and tea brewing time. The weight was three level (tea weight 1 g, 2 g, and 3 g) and length of brewing also consists of three level (3 minutes, 6 minutes, and 9 minutes). Data was analyzed by ANOVA test followed by Duncan test. The results show that heavy tea was significant effect on the rate of caffeine, while time brewing was not significant. Similarly, the interaction between heavy with tea brewing time was not significant. The maximum weight and length of brewing were 3 grams and 9 minutes, which is 29,3214 mg (w/w).

Abstract

Castor bean (J. Curcas L.)can be used for biodiesel material as an alternative to fossil fuels. One of the problems in the cultivation oft his plant is the existence of termite pest. The purpose of this research is to identify termites species that have destructive potencial  to castor plants in KIJP Pakuwon. The research was conducted from January to December 2009. As amount of 90 observed stations  installed in this area, then divided into three blocks with of each block contained 30 observed station.The distance between each observed station was 20 meters. The termites species that had been collected in every observed station then put in  bottles containing 70 percent ethanol and identified its characteristic at Insect Taxonomy Laboratory, Department of Plant Protection, Bogor Agricultural University. Research results showed a numbers of termites species that have potencial destruction to castor plants were Macrotermes sp., Schedorinotermes sp., Microtermes spand Odntotermes sp. Macrotermes sp. was the most dominant species in KIJP Pakuwon.

Abstract

The zone of hatching anf nursery of Gelonia erosa in brackish area of Leupung is unknown. Therefore, the study of the zones of both activities, hatching and nursery, must be done.  The study was aimed to determine the zonation of hatching of Gelonia erosa, indicators for hatching and nursery zones, and strategies of management of both zones in the brakhish area Leupung. Data was collected in three locations; Location I (River Leupung), Location II ( River Reuleng), and Location III (River Lhok Kulam). The methods of collecting data were Jarnis Larva Collector used for larva collection, in-situ used to collect biophysic data, and sweep area and destructive methods used to collect the young and mother of the species. It was found that in downstream of Location I, dominated by Nypa fructicans, there were 24 larvas, 10 and 61 individuals of young and mother of Geloina erosa respectivelly. Location II dominated by Nypa fructicans  and Fimbristilys sp had 10, 14, and 49 individuals of larva, young, and adult of Geloina erosa whereas Location III dominated by fructicans  and Fimbristilys sp as well had 12 and 65 individuals of young and adult of Geloina erosa. It can be concluded that the zone of hatching can be determined by the presence of larva, young and adult of Geloina erosa with fully-grown of gonad while the determination of nursery zone is relied on the presence of young and male and female adults of Geloina erosa with well-matured gonads.

Abstract

Poultry sector remain problemed in animal health system. Several of infectious poultry diseases are spread across regions in Indonesia, such as Avian Influenza (AI), Newcastle Disease (ND), Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD), Cholera, Pullorum, Dwarfism, and Ascariasis. Candida albicans is a flora in a chicken otherwise in immunosuppression (immune system disorder) condition turned into a pathogen. One hundred day old broiler chickens (DOC) into four groups, divided into four groups. Group CC0 (control), fed with basal comercial nutrient, group CC1 chickens fed with basal and infected C. albicans (dose of 105 CFU/ml), group CC2, chickens fed with basal and treated by corticosteroids (3 mg/Kg), group CC3, fed with basal and treated by corticosteroids (3 mg/Kg) and infected C. albicans (dose of 105 CFU/ml). Each group contain 5 replications. Bursa of Fabrisius were collected for histopathology assay using Haematoxylin Eosin stained method. Haematoxylin Eosin stained method applied for HP assay. HP assayed cause Bursa of Fabricius were decreased of their activity. Based on research data obtained, this research concluded that corticosteroids and C. albicans infection resulted decreasing of lymphoid activity of chicken. Corticosteroids and infection C. albicans  together were giving lower respon of lymphoid activity compore to each treatment of corticosteroid and C. albicans.

Abstract

Chitosan as a material of biological origin has recently been used for recovery of metal ions. This research aims to synthesize kitosan resin resulted by the reaction of kitosan with etilendamin. In the present work chitosan was cross-linked with glutardialdehyde and subsequently treated with epichlorohydrine and ethylene diamine. The resins CR-amine was found to contain 22.7% water content,  and were insoluble in organic solvents as well as in mineral and organic acids. The concentration values of the active sites on the resins are reported. The higher concentration of active sites of CR-amine 6.01 mmol/g indicates that the “en” moieties are covalently bonded to the cross-linked resin. Several chemical modification methods were tried in increasing the uptake capacity of cross-linked chitosan bead. Among them, aminated chitosan beads formed through the chemical reaction using ethylenediamine showed the highest uptake capacity for gold ions. Uptake capacity of aminated chitosan beads was increased to about 0.8 mmol Au3+ g-1 dry mass compared to that before modification. The increase of amine groups was confirmed by IR spectrum and measurement of amine concentration and surface condition on aminated chitosan bead was also confirmed by  SEM.

Abstract

This research studied the application of chitosan on salted mackerel (Rastrelliger sp.) preservation during storage at room temperature. The research is aimed to study the effect chitosan concentration and storage time for Total Plate Count (TPC). The study was conducted in Laboratory of Microbiology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Syiah Kuala University from April to August 2012. The research method was laboratory experimental.  The data was analyzed by Randomized Completely Design with two factorial. The first factor was chitosan concentration (three levels: 0%; 1%; 2%) while the second factor was storage time (four levels: 0; 2; 4; 8 weeks). The results of this study indicated that chitosan concentration was not significantly different for the Total Plate Count (p0,05), however storage time was significantly for the Total Plate Count (p0,05). Futhermore, the interaction chitosan concentration and storage time was significantly for the Total Plate Count (p0,05).

Abstract

Chitosan, a product of chitin deacetylation, has been used for various purposes in various fields of agriculture, food, biomedical, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals. The use of chitosan in a pure state is limited by its poorly soluble in various solvents other than in aqueous weak acids. Moreover, chitosan films are brittle and fragile that it is difficult to use in the form of films for various applications. Long-term goal of this research is to obtain chitosan which is elastic by the addition of plasticizer. The specific target of this research is to obtain information about the effect of adding RBDPO and glycerol as plasticizer on the characteristics of the mechanical properties of chitosan. The research method was carried out in the laboratory experiments. Design research is conducted on a wide variety of compositions blending chitosan and plasticizer of RBDPO and glycerol on the mechanical properties including tensile strength and elongation. The relsulted blended sample is cast in the form of thin films and characterized by tensile strength test. The test results showed that the mechanical properties of tensile strength reaches optimum conditions where the plasticizer content of 30%, while the extension increases with increasing of plasticizer content.
