Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the effect of the methanol extract against bacteria Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and to measure its inhibition capacity. Phytochemical test and extraction were conducted at the Research Laboratory of Chemistry Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA). Antibacterial test was done at the Laboratory of Microbiology Department of Biological Science, University of  Syiah Kuala. The samples used leaves of H. rosa-sinensis collected from Gampong Sektor Timur, Darussalam. This study used completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatements and three replications namely; negative control using the solvent, extract test with  concentrations 0.2 g / mL, 0.3 g / mL, 0.4 g / mL, and  positive control using 30 µg linezolid. Phytochemical test showed that the fresh samples contain alkaloids, terpenoids, steroids, and flavonoids, while the methanol extract contains alkaloids and flavonoids. Antibacterial test showed that the methanol extract have inhibited MRSA bacterial growth, with the average of inhibition zone was 15.90 mm at the concentration of 0.4 g / mL.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the characteristics and feasibility of high school students problem solving skills assessment on Biology. This research is using Research Development model which refers to Borg Gall. Assessment developed are open-ended cases. Product validation conducted by subject matter and evaluation experts. Test involving 88 students from three different schools. Data from the field test were analyzed using the Quest program. Assessment  components that have been developed includedskills to defining the problem, checking the problem, planning a solution, implementing the plan, and evaluate. The study shows that the assessment instrument has a validity that fit with the Rasch model and high reliability. The final result that 13 % items were easy, 41,7 % items were moderate, and 46,3 % items were categorized as difficult. Discriminationindex in each item have a minimal interpretation of "sufficient"

Abstract

This study was aimed to identify the local wisdom of Acehnese people in marine conservation. The study used qualitative research design (Qualitative Research). Methods of collecting data were direct observation on society GampongLampulo,KutaAlam sub-district of Banda Aceh and deep interview. The interviewees were Pawang Laot (Fisherman Chief) and local people.  According to observation and interview that marine conservation management in Port Lampulo has been done since a long time ago by implementing rules created by the chief to maintain marine conservation. Local wisdom in marine conservation consisted of positive and negative behaviours, obeyed rules and ignored rules, and the customary sanctions. Expenditure for weekly sailing was 5-7 millions with montly sailing expenditure was about 30-60 millions. The obstacles faced by fishermen were weather,  climate changes, high price of fossil fuel, and shallowness of fish landing sties. Improvement suggestions for government and local people are infrastructure improvements, decrease in fuel prices, and increase in welfare of fishermen

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of the leaf extract of the Avicennia marina as an antibacterial and natural preservatives to prolong the shelf life of the fish. The method used is the experimental method completely randomized design (CRD) non factorial, consisting of treatment concentration of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% extract, positive control, and negative control. A number of bacterial colonies were analyzed by Anava and Duncan test (JNTD) at the level of 0.05. The results showed that the decline in the number of bacterial colonies on the treatment of 20% extract (P4) during the storage period of 12 hours and 24 hours of 34 and 37 colonies. Physical testing best fish in the extract 20% during the storage period of 12 hours of the appearance of clear eyes, skin taut, red gills, meat chewy and dense consistency. Organoleptic testing showed 20% extract treatment is much preferred by the panelists for aroma, flavor, color and texture of the fish is still very fresh. Based on the results of the study concluded that the use of Avicennia marina leaf extract is effective as an antibacterial and a natural preservative on the Euthynus affinis at a concentration of 20%

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to determine the effect of the implementation of Discovery Learning models towards learning outcome of XI-IPA1 students, on the respiratory system subject matter at SMA Unggul Sigli. This study was conducted in two cycles, each cycle consist of four phases: planning, action, observation and reflection. The subjects were XI IPA 1 students school year 2014/2015, which is amounted to 25 people, consisting of 10 male students and 20 female students. Data analysis was performed with a descriptive quantitative technique. The results showed an increase in student learning outcomes in the respiratory system materials. Improving student learning outcomes from a base score for cycle 1 and cycle II is also changing. Average activity of in the first cycle is equal to 22.67%, then increased to 75.32% in the second cycle. Classical learning achievement has exceeded 85% in the second cycle. This condition shows the results of student learning has high category
