Abstract

- The aim of this research is to know the influence of PQ4R strategy toward biology learning achievement of X degree students at SMA Negeri 1 Mojolaban in 2012/ 2013 academic year. This research was quasi experiment research which used posttest only Nonequivalent control group design. This research applyed PQ4R strategy in experimental group and deduktif approach with discussion, classical course and question-answer method in control group. Population’s research is the entire class X at SMA Negeri 1 Mojolaban in academic year 2012/2013.  Sampling techniques used cluster sampling. Cluster result has chosen X5 as experiment group and X7 as control group.  Data was collected using  multiple choice test, observation sheet, and document. The data were analyzed by t-test. This research concluded that application of PQ4R strategy has taken good effect toward student’s achievement cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domain in learning biology of SMA Negeri 1 Mojolaban. Key Words: PQ4R strategy,  Biology Learning Achievement

Abstract

This study was aimed to improve the students’ analytical thinking ability of biology subject in X MIA 6 of SMA  MTA Surakarta academic year 2013/2014 through the implementation of Problem Based Learning.  This research is a class action research which consists of three cycles. Each cycle contains planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The subject of this research is the students in X MIA 6 of SMA  MTA Surakarta academic year 2013/2014. The data colecting techniques of this research are using observation, interview and documentation. The data validation of this research is using triangulation method. The data result of observation, interview and documentation are analyzed by using qualitative analysis which is done in three components, they are: data reduction, data presentation and drawing the conclusion or verification. The research procedure is using spiral method. The results show that students analytical thinking ability is increased in Pre-cycle, Cycle I, Cycle II and Cycle III. The average of students analytical thinking ability increase from 21,45 % to 47,51%. Identifying elements aspect increase from 22, 42% to 53, 33%. Grouping and describing elements in categories aspect increase from 23, 64% to 46, 67%. Describing process aspect increase from 21, 21% to 46, 06%. Interpreting simple series of data aspect increase from 20% to 49,09%. Expressing information in simple tables or graphs aspects increase from 20% to 42,42%.  This research’s conclusion is the implementation of Problem Based Learning can improve analytical thinking ability of the student in X MIA 6 class at SMA SMA  MTA Surakarta. Key Words: problem based learning, analytical thinking

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to improve student’s biology learning activity in class X-2 SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Karanganyar in the academic year 2013/2014 through by implementation of Guided Discovery learning model. The research was a classroom action research which performed in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of 4 phases, that was planning, action, observation, and reflection. Subject of the research was students of class X-2 SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Karanganyar in the academic year 2013/2014. Data of the research was obtained by test and non test technique consisted observation, interview and documentation. The obtained data were analyzed using descriptive technique and were validated using triangulation of methods. Target of the research was to achieve 75,00% for each aspect of student’s biology learning activity. The results of the research showed the percentage student’s biology learning activity aspect for oral activities pre cycle (31,94%), cycle I (69,50%), and cycle II (75,00%), motor activities pre cycle (25,46%), cycle I (77,00%), and cycle II (79,33%), mental activities pre cycle (31,02%), cycle I (72,26%), and cycle II (79,81%), emotional activities pre cycle (30,56%), cycle I (81,00%), and cycle II (87,38%), writing activities pre cycle (46,30%), cycle I (77,00%), and cycle II (80,77%), listening activities pre cycle (36,11%), cycle I (76,00%), and cycle II (82,41%), drawing activities pre cycle (27,78%), cycle I (63,00%), and cycle II (78,70%), and visual activities pre cycle (30,56%), cycle I (72,00%), and cycle II (78,70%). The results showed that the average percentage student’s biology learning activity aspect such as pre cycle (32,47%), cycle I (73,47%), and cycle II (80,26 %). The conclusion of the research is the implementation of Guided Discovery learning model can improve student’s biology learning activity in class X-2 SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Karanganyar in the academic year 2013/2014. Keywords : Guided Discovery, Student’s Biology Learning Activity

Abstract

The objective of research was to improve the question’s quantity and quality as indicator of student’s thinking process through the application of discovery learning model at grade XI MIA 7 of State Senior High School 3 Surakarta academic year 2014/2015. This study was a Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in fourth cycles, consisting of four stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Subject were 32 students of XI MIA 7 State Senior High School 3 Surakarta academic year 2014/2015. Data collected through observation, interview, and documentation. The data validation  used triangulation method. The obtained data were analyzed using qualitative-descriptive analysing technique that consist of data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. The result of research showed that application of discovery learning model improve the students question’s quantity and quality in grade XI MIA 7 State Senior High School 3 Surakarta acaedmic year 2014/2015. The improvement of students question’s quantity and quality was indicated by the student’s question at pre-cycle activity was 13 questions with C1 procedural question as the highest quality question become 126 questions with C4 metacognitive question as the highest quality question at the final cycle. The conclusion of research was the application of discovery learning model improve the quantity and quality of question as the indicator of student’s thinking process at grade XI MIA 7 State Senior High School 3 Surakarta academic year 2014/2015. Keywords: discovery learning, question’s  quantity and quality

Abstract

This research considered as Research and Development. The reseach conducted from January to May 2016. The purpose of this research is to develope Subject Spesific Pedagogy (SSP) based on Problem Based Learning (PBL) to reinforce student’s environmental-caring attitude in Grade VII SMP Negeri A Karanganyar academic year 2015/2016. The population of this research was of class VII in SMP N A Karanganyar. Class VII H and VII I were selested as the sample of research. The research design is 4D (four-D) by Thiagarajan. This research model consist of define, design, and develope. The disseminate phase was excluded in this research because the purpose of this research only develope product SSP based on PBL. The characteristic of product is integration of PBL syntax and enviromental subject. The result of validation from expert judgements showed that 90% in RPP (valid), 90% in module (valid), 90% in LKS (valid), and 83% in instrument of evaluation (valid). The development testing result from teacher and students showed that 84% and 79% in modul and LKS (valid). SSP based on PBL is effective to improve environmental-caring attitude. NEP data showed that the mean value of all aspect had been improved from 48,39% up to 54,86%. Paired sample’s t-test showed that sig=0,000 < α=0,05 it’s mean there was differences students environmental-caring attitude between pre and post-treatment. The conclusion of this this research showed that SSP based on PBL is valid and proper for Grade VII SMP N A Karanganyar. Keywords : Subject Spesific Pedagogy, Problem Based Learning, Environmental-Caring Attitude, New Ecological Paradigm

Abstract

The research aims to increase students' engagement in Biology learning by applying cooperative learning method specifically peer teaching. The subjects consisted of 32 high school students focusing on Low Achievement (LA) and High Achievement (HA) students. This research is classroom action research (CAR) with 3 Cycles. The research procedure includes the stage of reflection, planning, implementation of action and observation. Behavioral Engagement (BE) data obtained through observation, other data in the form of Psychological Engagement (PE) and Cognitive Engagement (CE) obtained through student engagement questionnaire based on Student Engagement Instrument (SEI). Technique of data validation used is triangulation technique. Technique of analysis data performed by data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions based on qualitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that cooperative learning method specifically peer teaching can increase student engagement in biology learning. The average percentage of all BE aspects observed in LA students before the treatment given, Cycle I, Cycle II and Cycle III respectively was 13.72%; 35.24%; 48.26% and 64.24% respectively. Meanwhile BE results of HA students before the treatment given, Cycle I, Cycle II and Cycle III respectively were 22.22%; 48.97%; 56.6% and 64.76% respectively. The results of PE of LA students before the treatment given to Cycle III increased by 3.54% while PE in HA students before the treatment given to Cycle III increased from 3.75%. The result of CE analysis of LA students has increased before the treatment given toward Cycle III that is 2.94% while in HA students increased by 2.95%.

Abstract

Aims of this research are to know the influence of INSTAD learning strategies toward sciences process skills and influence of INSTAD learning strategies toward student’s  achievement in studying biology of  SMA Batik 1 Surakarta. This research was quasi experiment research using quantitative approach. The research was designed using posttest only randomized control group by using the experimental classes (application of INSTAD strategy) and control classes     (conventional learning). Population studies are all students of SMA Batik 1       Surakarta in academic year 2011/2012. Sampling techniques with cluster random sampling, so chosen X-5 as the experiment class and X-4 as the control class. Data was collected using questionnaire, essay test, observation sheet, and document. The data were analyzed by t-test.The conclusion of this research were science process skills was significantly affected by INSTAD and  the application of      INSTAD has taken effect on student’s cognitive and psychomotor, but hasn’t   taken effect on student’s affective achievement in studying biology of SMA Batik 1 Surakarta. Key Words: INSTAD learning strategies, science process skills, biology student’s achievement

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the effect of inquiry-STAD (InSTAD) learning compared with that of the guided inquiry on the biology learning achievement of the X graders of SMA Negeri Gondangrejo in the school year of 2012/2013.This study was a quasi-experiment research. The research design was Post-Test only with Nonequivalent Group using experiment 1 class (InSTAD strategy) and experiment 2 (guided inquiry strategy application). The population of research was all X graders of SMA Negeri Gondangrejo in the school year of 2012/2013. The sampling technique used was cluster sampling and two classes were taken as experiment 1 and experiment 2 classes. Techniques of collecting data used were multiple-choice test, observation sheet, and school document. The hypothesis testing was done using t-test. The conclusion of this research were have not differences result between InSTAD and Guided Inquiry learning toward student’s cognitive achievement in studying biology of  SMA Negeri Gondangrejo and  have  differences result between InSTAD and Guided Inquiry learning toward student’s afective and psycomotor achievement in studying biology of  SMA Negeri Gondangrejo. With this research is expected to have a discourse teachers and new knowledge and be able to apply this learning to improve science process skills in students so that the nature of biology can be realized students working scientifically. Key Words: INSTAD Learning , Guided Inquiry Learning, Biologi Learning Achievement

Abstract

The purpose of the research is ascertain the differences result learning achievement in biology on active learning strategies  Make a Match and Card Sort Class X SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta academic year 2012/2013. The research method was quasy experiment using quantitative approach. The populations was all students of class X SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta academic year 2012/2013 with 297 students. The sample of this research was established by cluster sampling, so chosen X3 as the experiment 1 class with 29 students and X4 as the experiment 2 with 30 students. Data was collected using multiple choice test, observation sheet, and document. The data were analyzed by t-test. The results of the study showed that Make a Match strategy has 67.37 for the cognitive side, 81.46 the psychomotor side, and 77.58 for the affective side; while Card Sort strategy has 63.42 for the cognitive side, 73.92 for the psychomotor side, and 78.53 for the affective side. Decision take hypothesis with level of significance (α : 0,05). Ho rejected if probability significance less than 0.05 and accepted if more than 0.05. In the cognitive domain showed 0.039 > 0.05, the shows psychomotor domain 0.049 <0.05, and the affective domain, showed 0.69> 0.05. The conclusion of this research were have differences results of biological studies on the cognitive and psychomotor from the application of active learning strategies Make a Match and application of active learning strategies Card Sort  Class X students of SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta academic year 2012/2013. Key Words: Active Learning Strategies Make a Match, Active Learning Strategy Card Sort, Learning Achievement in Biology
