Abstract

The course of Priangan history during almost two centuries, in the VOC and Dutch colonial period, was nearly identical to coffee cultivation. The consideration based on that Priangan was temporally the first region in Java where coffee cultivation introduced; then quantitatively coffee cultivation of Priangan engaged the number of manpower and large of land extensively so that consequently the product of coffee from this residency was always the highest than the other residencies throughout Java. Besides, in favour of coffee cultivation, within residency was operated very long aged system then known as Preangerstelsel from 1677 until 1870. (de Klein: 1986: 34)

Abstract

Indonesian government policies that emphasize economic growth and national stability, characterized by authoritarian and centralized government in the past, inflict a disparity in regional growth. The control of central government to the region, seems to disturb the sense of justice and the welfare of the people on the borderline territory which are considered retarded, isolated, and marginalized. Moreover, the increasing of smuggling, human trafficking, and terrorism has been disturbing the sense of historical awareness in relation to the issue of nationality. It started from reform era followed by regional autonomy policy gives space to the region government to balance the local development. This article discussed, first: The importance of History education in borderline territory, Second: ethnic historical concept and regional studies in borderline territory, third: ethnical integration based on sociocultural aspect of national character reinforcement in borderline, and fourth: history education development to increase the competitiveness, which also expected to strengthen the nationalism in borderline territory.

Abstract

Secara umum penelitian membahas mengenai konflik Irian Barat yang meilibatkan Amerika Serikat untuk membantu menyelesaikan pertikaian antara Indonesia dan Belanda pada tahun 1960-1963. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menjawab pertanyaan utama yaitu “Bagaimana Keterlibatan Amerika Serikat dalam Penyelesaian Konflik Irian Barat antara Indonesia dan Belanda 1960-1963?” Untuk menjawab rumusan masalah tersebut, peneliti menggunakan metode historis yang meliputi heuristik, kritik, interpretasi dan historiografi. Berdasarkan hasil dari penelitian, konflik Irian Barat pada tahun 1960-1963 akibat tidak menemukan kesepakatan antara Indonesia dan Belanda untuk berdamai. Melihat keadaan itu, Amerika Serikat tertarik untuk membantu menyelesaikan konflik tersebut. Selain itu,  Amerika Serikat memiliki kepentingan di kawasan Asia dalam rangka membendung komunis terutama di Indonesia dan Amerika Serikat berniat untuk menjauhkan Indonesia dari ketergantungannya terhadap Uni Soviet. Sehingga Amerika Serikat bersedia untuk menjadi meditor dalam penyelesaian konflik Irian Barat. Mediasi diadakan dengan mengadakan perundingan-perundingan antara Indonesia dan Belanda dengan diawali melalui Konferensi Meja Bundar (KMB), Perundingan Middleburg, dan Perjanjian New York. Penyelesaian konflik Irian Barat dengan terlibatnya Amerika Serikat berpengaruh terhadap hubungan diplomasinya Amerika Serikat dengan Indonesia dan Belanda.

Abstract

The local cultural values that were recently ignored are an essential issue to be highlighted in teaching history. This research focuses on the cultural values inheritance of Cikondang indigenous people, particularly among young people who are studying in Madrasah Aliyah Al-Hijrah Cikondang, through history education. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods. The results show that the cultural values of the Cikondang society can be actualized and internalized in the lessons of history, including ecological wisdom, respect for history, cooperation culture, education wisdom, and economic wisdom. The teacher has made the community and the surrounding environment a source of learning. Students can match what is acceptable in the classroom with the reality of the environment. Internalization appears in the behavior and consciousness of the students toward the culture of values Cikondang who lived and actualized in everyday life. Thus the inheritance of local wisdom is significant in learning history so that students will know and understand the noble values contained in the culture. This indicates that school has a great potential as the vehicle for the inheritance of the cultural values proven by times.

Abstract

In this era when technological advances make students vulnerable to unverified information, hoax, history learning has an important role in stimulating their criticism and literacy skills. Students understanding in the historical method which is consists of heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and art of historical writing as an effective working tool should be pursued one of them by obtaining such knowledge from historian’s experience presented in the learning process. This study uses the classroom action research method with Elliot's design to answer the problem of how to improve students' abilities in historical research through the use of historian's experience? From this study it can be concluded 1) there is increase in historical research skills after the students get material historian experience; 2) it also increase students' criticism in choosing sources of reference; 3) history learning becomes more interesting and challenging for students.Keyword: Historical method, history learning, historical research, historian, classroom action research

Abstract

The study was based on research concerning the declining of historical awareness in the development of Sintren art that has been increasingly marginalized by the globalization, happening particularly in the coastal border of West Java and Central Java. This study uses a combination of historical-ethnographic methods, and for the data collection techniques the study uses observation, interview, and document study. The research results are as follows: (1) The origin of the words “sinyo” means “youth” and “trennen” means “exercise in Sintren art. There is another word like “sesantrian” which means “students play lais mimic, or debus, ubrug rudat using the magical”. This Sintren was first created when the habits of the mothers and their children in the time of waiting for their husbands/fathers to come home from fishing in the sea. Instead of sleeping in the afternoon, it was better for them- the fishermen who just stayed in the house, to initiate this Sintren game. (2) The purpose of this Sintren art show at the first time was just as a habit of some women and their children who were waiting for their husbands/fathers to come home from fishing in the sea, to then, developed into a sacred game including the ceremonies for asking rain during the long drought, and served as a means of entertainment (3) Sintren art stages include (a) preparation phase: including gamelan and clothing design, and (b) staging (Sintren, Bodor and Sinden/ Singer). (4) The philosophical contribution values of the Sintren performing arts to the history education, Sintren is basically appreciated as an identity art, reflecting local delicacy, resignation, rules and norms as well as a leader in the whole performance, (5) Efforts to maintain and develop the Sintren art in other areas, especially in the Kasepuhan Cirebon Palace where annual performances of traditional arts, especially, Sintren from various regions are often performed.

Abstract

Persoalan bangsa yang begitu rumit telah membuat masyarakat resah, padahal kenyamanan dan keamanan serta kebanggaan terhadap negaranya sangat didambakan. Hal ini karena mereka sadar akan tanggung jawab sebagai warga negara yang memiliki hak dan kewajiban yang sama. Tidak dapat dipungkiri, berbagai kekurangan dan kelemahan terjadi dalam pendidikan. Tanpa menafikan berbagai usaha perbaikan yang berlangsung tiada henti, diperlukan berbagai terobosan atau usaha-usaha baru dalam pengembangan pendidikan. Hal tersebut semakin memberi harapan dengan adanya kesadaran pihak-pihak terkait dengan menyadari berbagai kelemahan  yang membalutnya. Pendidikan nilai   pada hakikatnya menjadi sebuah komitmen mengenai langkah-langkah apa yang seharusnya dilakukan oleh seorang pendidik untuk mengarahkan generasi muda kepada pemahaman dan internalisasi nilai-nilai dan kebajikan yang akan membentuknya menjadi manusia yang baik. karena dalam kontek sekarang penguatannya sangat relevan untuk mengatasi krisis  moral yang terjadi di Indonesia. Praktik pendidikan karakter yang semestinya memperkuat aspek nilai-nilai kebaikan. Penanaman nilai kegigihan tokoh K.H. Sjam’un sudah sepantasnyalah dijadikan sebagai panutan bagi masyarakat Banten.

Abstract

The background of this research is the tendency of emphatic awareness learning that is being overlooked in the social studies in schools. The main problem addressed in this research is the social studies learning for the development of emphatic awareness of student of elementary school level in Bandung.The objectives of this research are (1) to design a model of social studies learning program for the development of emphatic awareness of fifth-grade students of elementary school in Bandung, (2) to test the effectiveness of the learning program, and (3) to identify difficulties encountered by elementary school teachers in developing social studies learning for the development of emphatic awareness of fifth-grade students. The methodology of this research is using multi method approach with two-phase designs model or double research strategy. After the research is conducted, based on analysis and discussion of the phase 1 result of limited testing, a stable emphatic awareness learning model was found, then focusing revision in cycle. The early model in product testing was conducted by using pair t-sampling. The result shows that social studies learning model using story telling method is effective in developing emphatic awareness of student in all indicators. The difficulties faced by teachers are more related to the level of understanding of emphatic awareness, creativity, and innovation level which are not optimum. Based on the analysis and discussion and the result of the research, the general conclusion is the development study have met the objective. Emphatic awareness learning model can be applied through planing management and implementation of learning through storytelling method which have high applicability rating with a favorable result and has good implication theoretically and practically. The proposed recommendations are beneficial for model application and for further studies.

Abstract

The above objectives of history education clearly indicate that history education aims at the development of students awareness of time concept; scientific knowledge of the society in the past in terms of their values, ways of thinking, attitudes and achievement; skills for understanding and generating  knowledge of the past; attitudes towards history as what happened in the past society, and history as a science that reconstruct the past . To put it in a simple way the objectives suggest that students should have knowledge about the past scientifically and this knowledge is gained through the application of historical thinkings and skills.  The objectives also suggest  that history education should  prepare students for their roles as a citizen who loves and is proud of the country, the nation and their past achievement. Further, the objectives place history as an education media for preparing the students for their future lives. Big potential of historical education is developing the nation’s identity.  Historical education is a vehicle that gives opportunities for young generations to conduct self identification as a member of this nation. History education potential in developing the nation with heroism,leadership, and willingness to sacrifice.

Abstract

Primary School before and during the Japanese occupation of Indonesia has not been studied comprehensively due to the paucity of authentic data. The Japanese military document called ‘Jawa ni okeru bunkyō no gaikyō’ has served as an important source in this field. This study analyzes the alteration of primary school and its re-establishment process following the example of the educational system employed in imperial Japan. The number of primary schools has been reported to decline dramatically - either the number of schools or that of the students. However, we[who?] found that the number of primary schools did not significantly decrease, and, even more, the number of students increased in Java. One teacher two classes system and the one room two classes were introduced in response to the teacher shortage. The curriculum had been Japanisized through introducing new subjects such as Japanese language, spirit/mental education, physical education and vocational activities. Japanese primary school emphasizes practical education unlike the Dutch system which merely fosters and nurtures the academic side.
