Abstract

Students' must be able to reasons scientifically in understanding our rapidly changing world, in which scientific explanation skill can be defined as an ability to make a reasonable explanation of a phenomenon based on scientific facts as well as forming a relationship based on evidence and logical reasoning. In this study, we examine the development of students' scientific explanation skill through the implementation of POGIL inquiry model with Socio-scientific Issues (SSI) context. A difference in scientific explanation skill after learning was found and implications to chemistry learning are discussed.

Abstract

Traveling in the community has become a lifestyle. Factors that become obstacles in every traveling activity include determining the destination. In this process, the traveler needs a short route. The Ant Colony algorithm is one of the heuristic methods for finding the right solution in a discrete optimization problem. The purpose of this study is to apply the workings of the Ant Colony Optimization algorithm in Traveling Problem. The information needed is information related to a location between cities and route planning for destination locations. The distance calculation is done by summing the initial distance to the end of the trip and calculating the cost of fuel. ACO has been applied to find optimal solutions to the Traveling Salesman Problem, by giving a number of n points.  Keywords: Algorithm Ant Colony Optimization, Travelling Problem

Abstract

The Randomized Posttest Only Control Group Design.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the enhancement mathematical communication ability and the achievement mathematical disposition of junior high school students under Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs) learning. This study was a quasi-eperimental in one of the junior high schools in Bandung, with the design of non-equivalent control group involving 80 students of grade VII. The instrument used for measuring students ability was a test on mathematical communication, whereas for measuring their mathematical disposition, a questionaire was used . The statistical analysis performed were Mann-Whitney test, and one way ANOVA test. The research results obtained are: (1) the enhancement the students mathematical communication abilities who work under Model-Eliting Activities (MEAs) learning is better than the students who work under conventional learning, (2) there are differences in the improvement in mathematical communication ability between students who have mathematical prior knowledge (KAM) high, midlle, low, (3) the students achievement in mathematical disposition who work under Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs) learning is better than those who work under conventional learning.

Abstract

Reflective abstraction can provide an insight into students’ understanding of mathematical concepts. The purpose of this qualitative research was to identify students' understanding of derivative based on their reflective abstraction in solving graphically-represented question. Students’ understanding of derivative was evaluated by their ability in solving assignment concerning derivative and interview results. Results suggested that students use algebraic strategy to solvegraphically-represented question. Based on reflective abstraction, students constructed their knowledge through interiorization, reversal, coordination, encapsulation, and generalization. Difficulties that the students faced in solving graphically-represented question reflected from their answer and interview results are discussed.

Abstract

Inquiry-based learning is considered as an effective learning pathway for teaching science, but unfortunately, elementary preservice science teachers still have an inadequate understanding of inquiry-based learning. This study investigated the role of scaffolding as a supporting method for improving preservice elementary science teachers’ understanding of inquiry-based learning and their skills in implementing inquiry-based learning through peer teaching. Results suggested that scaffolding improves preservice elementary science teachers’ understanding of and skills in implementing inquiry-based learning because features in scaffolding facilitate understanding and teaching skills improvement.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between environmental morals with student participation in environmental management and to find out other factors that influence student participation in environmental management other than environmental morals. This research was a combination of quantitative sequential explanatory research combined with qualitative conducted in April to September 2018. The total sample of 129 students was taken through the Proportional random sampling technique. Qualitative data analysis involved 13 informants through purposive sampling techniques. The research data was obtained through filling out questionnaires, interviews, and observations directly at school. The results showed that there was a very low positive relationship between the Moral Environment and Student Participation in Environmental Management. Very low environmental morale towards student participation in management was influenced by, associations with peers and the surrounding environment, early education from parents, self-habituation, and self-awareness. Other factors found to influence student participation in environmental management include reward and punishment, school education, self motivation. The most dominant factor was the presence or absence of environmental management programs in schools and concern for the environment.
