Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the capillarity and the firing rate of castor oil. The research used group randomized design with two factors (A and B) and two replications. Factor A was fence castor oil temperature (500C, 600C, 700C) and factor B was wick stove diameter (10 mm, 5 mm). The observed data were include firing rate (mL/s), flash point (0C), viscosity (cst), surface tension (N/m), porosity (%) and the rate capillarity (mL/s). The result showed that temperature, diameter of wick stove and their interaction have a significant effect on capillarity and firing rate. The combination of temperature 700 C and 5 mm wick stove diameter (D2T3) had the best characteristic with the firing rate of 0.0226 mL/s and the capilarity of 0.0101 mL/s. Increase of temperature on castor oil will decrease value of the viscosity of castor oil stiffness.Keywords : Rate capilarity, Firing rate, Stove wick, castor oil.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the effect of centrifugation method in soy milk separation. The research was conducted in the Laboratory of Agricultural Workshop, Department of Agriculture, Faculty of Agriculture Sriwijaya University Indralaya, from January to July 2012. This research was consisted of six levels of centrifugation duration (30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 s) with three replications. Parameters observed were yield, capacity, and separation rate. The result showed that the separation process was completely finished at 60th second of centrifugation time. The average of separation rate was 110 g/s for the 30th second and 82.2 g/s for the 60th second of centrifugation time, with the yield of 83.3%.Keywords: Separation, Soymilk, Centrifugation

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the best combination of nozzle diameter and height of watering of the soil compaction by considering of irrigation spraying efficiency which is best to be determined to value Coefficient of Uniformity and Distribution of Uniformity. This research was done by applying the water to irrigation area in time needed to each treatment in order to soil compaction. The research used description method followed by tabulation and graphical presentations with two factors (A and B) and two replications. Factor A was the nozzle diameter (1 mm, 2 mm, 3 mm) and factor B was the height of watering (1 m, 1½ m, 2 m). The observed data were include water content (%), bulk density (g/cm3), soil compaction (%), coefficient of uniformity (%) and distribution of uniformity (%). The result showed that the highest value of water content was 69.66% (D3T1) which is the treatment with combination of nozzle diameter by 3 mm and height of watering by 1 m and the lowest of water content was 46.20% (D1T3) which is the treatment with combination of nozzle diameter by 1 mm and height of watering by 2 m. The treatment with combination of nozzle diameter 3 mm and height of watering by 2 m (D3T3), was the best treatment with bulk density 1.338 g/cm3, porosity 31,53%, the soil compaction 26.001%, coefficient of uniformity 80.51%, distribution of uniformity 74.14%. In reality, combination between of nozzle diameter and height of water did not have a value of Uniformity Coefficient (?85%) and Uniformity Distribution (?75%).Keywords: Nozzle, Sprinkler irrigation, Soil compaction, Uniformity Coefficient , Uniformity Distribution

Abstract

The research objective was to study physical characteristic of discarded cooking oil combustion as the energy sources for wick stove. This research used Group Randomized Design consisting of two factors with three levels and three replications. The first factor is the filtration treatment of used cooking oil (A), and the second factor is the treatment of used cooking oil temperature (B). The parameters observed were firing rate, rate capillarity, viscosity, density, flash point, porosity and surface tension. The results showed the temperature and filtering of each treatment have significant effect on the rate of combustion, the rate of capillarity. Interaction of temperature and filtration respectively has significant effect on the rate of combustion and spur capillarity. The results showed that combined treatment temperature of 700C with a screening filter paper (A3B3) is the best treatment with the burning rate of 0.0189 mL / s, while combined treatment temperature of 700C with no filtering (A3B1) is the best treatment at the rate of capillarity 0.01173 mL / s.Keywords : cooking oil, rate capillarity, viscosity, density

Abstract

A modified crushing machine made of circular saw was created with differences in some components, they are circular saw arrangement, concave shape, hopper, outlet boot, and source of power. This machine has 130 cm in lenght, 80 cm in height, 28 cm concave diameter, 25 cm of circular saw diameter, 20 cm of circular saw strengthener and 8 hp of diesel engine. Paddy straw was chosen as a trial material to test the performance of the machine. It was chosen because the previous machine did not success to chrush this material. The modified machine was able to run perfectly and crush the paddy straw. A capacity of 19,23 kg/h was reached when the test was done. The result of the crushing process was about 2 cm in length of the paddy straw. The fuel consumption was 0,880 L/h.Keywords : Crushing machine, Paddy Straw, Circular saw
