Abstract

Many history of science writers thought that nowadays science phenomenon achieved by the West without including contribution of some other Moslem countries science. They truly interested with these believed, since the fact that science revolution happen in West Europe. However, labelling all aspect of science invention on the West precisely uncorrect. The fact that some other nation and civilization, such as Greece, China and India strongly and spreadly constribute, direct and indirectly to these science phenomenon. Among nations and it’s contribution to improvement of science which should be countable; is Muslim civilitation with it’s Islam civilitation. Importance of their contribution so that someone surely believed that if Muslim science would be the only trigger of science revolution on the West. Someone also logically believe that revolution of science could be happen among Muslim if only some events would not be happen since it sparge the science development at that time.

Abstract

Taudhih al-Dalail fi Tarjamah Hadits al-Syamail is the manuscript hadith of Betawi’s clerical work. The book is a translation of Muhammadiyah Syamail written by al-Tirmidhi which teaches about the person and the attitude of the Prophet both in worship and social. It is translated by Guru Mughni of Kuningan, using the Arabic alphabet in Betawi Malay in 1926 AD.  Guru Mughni categorized on the most popular one of the clergy late 19th and early 20th century in Batavia. With his compatriot friend, he was able to widen the intellectual influences that reach almost all parts of Batavia at the time.  Social conditions of the religious community in Betawi during the Dutch colonial inspire Guru Mughni to build strong personal and character of Betawi community by making the Holy Prophet as a role model in life. Family background and education also makes his work has its own uniqueness over the works of Indonesian scholars at that time.

Abstract

Fazlur Rahman’s Islamic thought appears as convincing and brilliant figure in formulating methods of Quran interpretation. The originality of interpretation method formulated by him is because of the use of philosophy, social sciences and humanities. The method built by Rahman is often called the double movement hermeneutic. It is because the process involves the two-time back and forth movement, i.e. from the current problem to the derived Quranic era and back again to the current problem. The method emphasizes on basic ideas of the Quran or ideal Quranic moral compared to its specific legal. Another term in the elucidation of the meaning is that Rahman emphasizes more on the content of universality meaning than the literal-particular meaning. Rahman finally formulated a method that not only contributes to the development of methods of interpretation of the Quran, but also affects to the process of ijtihad in order to establish Islamic law. Major contribution in the further field of Islamic law is the implication that will change the face of Islamic law that originally was rigid, strict, formal, and exclusive into the face of law which is more soothing, protection, and open.

Abstract

The few people who do not understand the meaning of nationalism and the easiness of religions try to attack nationalism by the name of religion without comprehending the sublime meanings of Islam, which have made holy nationalism and called for easiness and facilitation. Easiness and facilitation is considered the first feature of the Islamic civilization, one aspect of its manifestations, and the first that encourages its acceptance by way of its carrying values, legislations, manners and cultural patterns. The importance of this paper is to show easiness and facilitation that Muslim civilization brought and applied in reality. Such feature is what proved such civilization’s reality and by which it won amazing bets in wars of challenge and interaction with the other world civilizations. Due to this, the inductive and historical approach has been adopted to show Islam’s easiness and facilitation. Among the results of this paper is the revelation that Islam put the first universal statement in rights of citizenship without discriminating between followers of religions, doctrines, race, or color. Also, easiness in Islam has established social solidarity: the rich give the poor; and the orphan seeks all Muslims as fathers caring for him.

The values contained in the sources of Islamic law, such as al Quran, Sunnah, ijma', qiyas, istislah, istihsan, sadd al dhara'i, and also maqasid al shari'ah, are translated into the community and are wholly implemented in the educational institutions. These values are transmitted to the learners through methods such as dialogue, cooperation, problem solving and the democratic limit creation. In transferring knowledge and values, an educator must be grounded on two important approaches: first, encouraging respect to the diversity based on the concept that education as a mirror, window, and conversation; second, doing class activity which is more cooperative based on the principle of justice and equality.

Abstract

Renewal in Islam is an important part of the great tradition of Muslim community in their long life historical canvas. Initial dynamics of Islamic reform that appear along the modern era and in various areas, stretching from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, India, North Africa, and Indonesia stressed that the context of modernity is demanding a revitalization of the Muslim intellectual heritage, including the works of earlier generations of Muslim scholars, as the role played by the European Christian community. As for the "second wave" of reform in Islam insists the appreciation of the importance of critical and historical approaches in understanding Islam, rather than theological, ideological, and political polemic. Therefore, to fill a more meaningful modernity Muslim reformers called for the need of refresher ijtihad by applying a new methodology to perform reinterpretation of sacred texts in solving social issues and contemporary morality.
