Abstract

Gender study concerns with the effort to posit the women and men in equal position as a part of social system integratively. The aim of the effort is to eliminate gender equality which exists in society due to socio-cultural, political policies as well as religious doctrine interpretations factors. To realize this equal gender relation between men and women, gender analysis technique is used particularly in development process to assess the causes and the problems of unequal gender relation of both sexes. Thus, the result of analysis  can be used as the considerations for women empowerment program to build up women's potentials that they can participate in development process together with men.

Abstract

Trafficking in women is a growing issue in Indonesia and elsewhere from time to time. The majority of the victims are trafficked, generally, for sexual exploitation. This sort of human trafficking is forbidden by religion and is categorized as a violence due to its undesirable impacts. The victims are forced to have sexual activity without marriage (legal marriage). In Islam, women traficcking issue is discussed in Fiqh because what is sold or taken from the victims is their service. However, this kind of transaction is considered as unlawfull transaction as it is not lawfully regulized ( ghairu masyru’).

Abstract

The development of science and technology influence all aspects of life. The development is not only dominated by men but also by women. Women are considered as the user of the invention of science and technology  while men  are the inventor. Men, explicitely, pose role in the process of science and technology. However, scienctists propose findings that show  women's identity of technology. It is predicted by those who are concerned with women issues that there will be more women involving in the process of inventions in science and technology. This achievement  of women is inevitable as they have contributed much on the development of  that area whether it is publicly accepted or not.

Abstract

Men's subordination towards women still exists in public, social, political, economic as well as cultural areas. Consequently, that kind of social construction negates the representative of women's right due to fear of the present of women's body which trespasses religious and social norms. In fact, any religion and humanity refuse such kinds of discriminition or intimidation towards women.  Harassment towards women can be analized through social, moral, emotional, motivational as well as consept of personality  perspectives. As the alternative solution for aforementioned problems, efforts can be taken such as reinterpreties religious doctrines based on gender perspective, criticizies sexism myths, socializies gender equality to the society and establish the institution concerning gender issues.

Abstract

Abstract

Gender differences which generats gender role do not need to be refused as long as they do not cause undesirable impacts. However, the problem is that gender role creates unequality structures in particular aspects such as can be found in Marital Laws. Some sections of Marital laws are considered gender bias for women. For instance, section 31  verse 3 and section 4 are categorized as irrelevant sections to build gender as well as human rights equality which been recommended by CEDAW convention (Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Againts Women) and Act no 7/1984. Therefore, these efforts should be taken to establish the Act or the regulation based on gender perspective to achieve equality and justice for both sexes (men and women) in all aspects particularly in a family relationship.

Abstract

Women's movement is one of important issues in the development of socio-intelectual discourse of Islam in Indonesia. Most figures emerge to encourage women in order that they pose higher possitions and get involved in public area roles, beyond their traditional roles as housewives. In line with that opinion, effort has been taken to realize the arguments that women issues are only women's bussines. Does not belong to women only, but also men's. Those issues invited moslem scientist's attention to contribute intelectually for women's empowerment and their  statuses  in islamic tradition.

Abstract

This Article studies about methodology construction used in feminism theology. Riffat Hassan’s thought made as a model in this article. There are several things which can be understood in this article namely: First, feminism theology which emerges in domain of modern Islamic thought cannot be discharged from a global tendency of this discourse growth in America. Second, in the context of “Islamicate”, the emergence of feminism theology is pushed by a social reality in Islamic society  which still have discrimination and subjugation toward woman. Particularly, this matter is legitimized by religious doctrines. Third, methodologically speaking, feminism theology has been reconstructed by using ideal, historical and empirical-normative approaches as well as by deconstruction, hermeneutic and hadits criticism methods. By these approaches and methods, feminism theology becomes one of discourses for  woman to fight againts discrimination and subjugation

Abstract

The formal gender role in Indonesia is legitimized by laws, culture and religion. In family context, women’s role is contructed as a secondary and a complementary role altough women, basically, play an important role for the family continuity. Furthermore, cultural legitimacy which is regulated in the marital laws puts the role of women as alienated role, from the equal position with men to inequal one, in daily practices. As a result, married women’s position may be alienated in the family. This phenomena needs attention and deep disscussion from social scientists particularly those who are concerned with women issues (and moslems women) for the sake of gender equity as well as gender equility realization in Indonesia.

Abstract

All religions aim to bring justice for all human beings, for men and women. The aim is stated in normative doctrines of each religion. Nonetheles, the interpretation of religious doctrines as well as the religious practices tend to negate universal religious values which respect the equality and justice for both sexes. This reduction is mostly practiced in interpreting the particular texts of doctrines. Consequently, the great meaning of religion is deviated and reduced by subjective interests of the interpreters. Overall, the problem of inequality and injustice is commmonly a result of religious normative doctrines misinterpretation.
