Abstract

Besi tuang putih memiliki keunggulan yaitu tahan aus, tahan korosi, kekuatan dan keuletan yang tinggi serta tahan terhadap perubahan suhu Besi tuang putih banyak digunakan pada industri pembuatan roda kereta api, rol untuk menggerus (grinding), dan plat penghancur batu. Kelemahan dari besi tuang putih tersebut adalah ketahanan terhadap keausan belum maksimal. Peningkatan ketahanan terhadap keausan salah satunya dengan proses heat treatment. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh viskositas pada media celup terhadap kekerasan dan struktur mikro besi tuang putih martensitik ASTM A532. Spesimen besi tuang putih martensitik ASTM A532 merck Cr 12, CR 17, CR 21 dengan ukuran 15 mm x 10 mm x 10 mm, selanjutnya dilakukan proses uji komposisi, heat teatment dengan suhu 900ºC ditahan 30 menit, lalu dicelupkan media oli dengan viskositas SAE 10, SAE 30, SAE 50. Pengujian meliputi uji kekerasan vickers dan pengamatan struktur mikro. Hasil pengujian komposisi kimia menunjukkan ASTM A532 CR12 mempunyai unsur C (carbon) sebesar 1.75% dan unsur Cr (Chromium) sebesar 14.24% masuk dalam kategori golongan besi tuang putih martensitik ASTM A532 Type A. ASTM A532, pada spesimen CR17 mempunyai unsur C (carbon) sebesar 2.15%, unsur Cr (Chromium) sebesar 17.90%, masuk golongan ASTM A532 Class II Type B. Dan Cr21 mempunyau unsur C (carbon) sebesar 3,15%, unsur Cr (chromium) sebesar 19,25% termasuk golongan ASTM A532 Type E. Hasil struktur mikro ASTM A532 terdiri dari struktur martensit, perlit dan Carbida Cr. Hasil pengujian kekerasan media quenching oli (SAE 10, SAE 30 dan SAE 50) untuk merck CR 12, CR 17, CR 21 nilai kekerasan berbeda jauh (signifikan). Kekerasan tertinggi dari ketiga merck besi tuang putih adalah CR 12 sebesar 1017,5 Kg/mm² pada quenching SAE 10, struktur martensit menjadi berkurang namun carbida Cr bertambah sehingga kekerasan menjadi tinggi. Dan kekerasan terendah pada CR 21 yaitu 600,1 Kg/mm² pada quenching SAE 50, pemanasan akan menurunkan jumlah martensit dan carbida sehingga kekerasan menurun.

Abstract

This research background with the desire of knowledge about what exactly the author Spot Welding and is usually used in the automobile industry for the manufacture of body of a car, the purpose of this study was to determine the time to do a good press plate welding especially in Black and Galvanized plate with a thickness of 1.2 mm . The first method of research conducted test process composition, creation of test samples, perform welding with welding machine Spot Welding, further testing of tensile and shear on each - each plate type, data processing, data analysis form conclusions, and report generation. After doing the research and the results obtained, a good press time at 3.5 seconds on each plate with the current 26 Ampere, it is evident after tensile test on galvanized plate and black plate worth gained the greatest diameter 4.3 mm for the black plate and for shear test galvanized plate and black plate valued largest diameter 5,35 mm for the black plate. From the above data it can be concluded that at the time of press time spot welding greatly affect the value of tensile and shear strength, in due time to the welding electrode material emphasis will generate heat, thus forming clumps, the resulting heat will affect the outcome of the weld .

Abstract

To increase performance of the tool life can be improved by hard coating surface on the tool using sputtering method. The research aims to deposit titanium and nitrogen thin film on surface of high speed steel tool, and also to investigate the effect of the TiN coating, which was coated by titanium and nitrogen using sputtering DC method, on the tool life. Thin film was deposited by sputtering method in vacuum chamber and flowed argon and nitrogen simultaneously. Trials machining of medium carbon steel material were done at various depth of cut of 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mm, feedrate of 0.084, 0.090 and 0.112 mm/rev and cutting speed of 23, 28, 32, 36, 42 and 48 m/min. The results showed that optimal cutting depth of coated and uncoated tools were 1 mm, tool life and removed volume was after coated titanium and nitrogen increased at 17% dan 40,3%, respectively.

Abstract

The rapid development of science and technology to inspire people to create something useful for human life itself. One example is the use of a cylindrical body which can be found on the heat exchanger (heat exchanger) is on shell and tube, chimney, and support offshore platforms. In this case, to obtain an optimum value as well as building construction and minimal ideal would be a mistake, it is necessary to know the characteristics of flow through the body. One of the characteristics of the flow is fluid flow through the cylinder body. Fluid passing through a cylindrical body will result in drag force. Research on the external flow across a body has done much to reduce the drag force. One was to replace the cylinder body with an elliptical geometry. In the present study will be conducted using the CFD numerical model with a test that is circular and elliptical cylinders. In the test model ellipse major and minor diameter ratio is varied (50mm/100mm, 50mm/120mm, 50mm/150mm, 50mm/180mm). In each test model will be calculated the value of the coefficient of drag is happening. The results of the simulations is the use of an elliptical body geometry can reduce the value of the coefficient of drag (CD) of 0.2519 on the minor and major diameter ratio (a/b = 50mm/150mm) than the circular cylinder with a drag coefficient (CD) of 0.5485 and the ratio of diameter minor and major of the most effective to reduce the coefficient of drag on the ellipse is (a/b = 50mm/150mm) than the minor and major diameter ratio (a/b = 50mm/100mm), (a/b = 50mm/120mm), (a/b =50mm/180mm).

Abstract

In the heat treatment with rapid dye method (Quenching) has the disadvantage that the increase of water temperature around the metal is high enough, it is not suitablefor long material, this issue need another attempt to study the cooling method with spraying system which is done to the spring steel. Heating is done until temperature of 920 ° C, with holding time 60 min, pressure 20, 40, 60 psi and 120 seconds of spraying time. After heat treatment, the specimens' hardness is tested by the method of Rockwell C (HRC). The results of hardness testing showed that the average hardness at a pressure of 20, 40, 60 psi is 34.55 HRC, HRC 39.80, and 40.45 HRC. At a pressure of 60 psi martensiticphase is observed clearly. There is a tendency that the higher the pressure, the hardness increased.

Abstract

Superplastic materials may be stretched in tension to elongations typically in excess of 200% and more commonly in the range of 400–2000%. There are rare reports of higher tensile elongations reaching as much as 8000%. The high ductility is obtained only for superplastic materials and requires both the temperature and rate of deformation (strain rate) to be within a limited range. The temperature and strain rate required depend on the specific material. A variety of forming processes can be used to shape these materials; most of the processes involve the use of gas pressure to induce the deformation under isothermal conditions at the suitable elevated temperature. The tools and dies used, as well as the superplastic material, are usually heated to the forming temperature. There are a number of commercial applications of super-plastic forming for aerospace, Examples are wing access panels in the Airbus A310 and A320, bathroom sinks in the Boeing 737, turbo-fan-engine cooling-duct components, external window frames in the space shuttle, front covers of slot machines.

Abstract

Pineapple leaf fiber as one of the natural fiber is currently available in high abundance, but not utilized and discarded as waste. Pineapple leaf fibers but can still be used as one alternative to natural fiber composite material. Pineapple fiber orientation variation 00, 00; 450, 00; 900to influence significantly the tensile strength of the composite. There is a maximum tensile strength with orientation 00; 450. From the results obtained using natural fibers found pineapple average of stress composite with fiber orientation 00 = 37,88 N / mm2 ,00; 450= 41,81 N /mm2, 00; 900= 39,37 N / mm2, from the results of this test we can deduce the nature of fiber reinforced resin pineapple can increase the tensile strength.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh komposisi fly ash dan suhu sintering terhadap kekerasan Vickers keramik lantai dari fly ash yang telah di-vitrifikasi. Fly ash yang digunakan berasal dari sisa pembakaran batubara pada pembangkit listrik tenaga uap dari Sijantang Sawahlunto. Pertambahan jumlah produksi fly ash menyebabkan dampak negatif pada lingkungan, sehingga salah satu solusi untuk mengatasi dampak tersebut adalah dengan cara memanfaatkan fly ash yang telah di-vitrifikasi sebagai raw material untuk membentuk keramik lantai. Dalam penelitian ini, komposisi bahan dibuat dengan mencampurkan 50 % berat fly ash vitrifikasi (Fav) + 40 % berat clay + 10 % berat batu kapur, 70 % berat fly ash vitrifikasi (Fav) + 24 % berat clay + 6 % berat batu kapur dan 90 % berat fly ash vitirfikasi (Fav) + 8 % berta clay + 2 % berat batu kapur. Spesimen uji dibuat berbentuk silindris dengan diameter 15 mm dengan tekanan sebesar 120 MPa. Spesimen uji kemudian di-sinter pada suhu 1050, 1100, 1150 oC dengan laju pemanasan 10 oC/menit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kondisi optimal kekerasan vickers terjadi pada spesimen (50 % berat fly ash vitrifikasi + 40 % berat clay + 10% berat batu kapur) pada tekanan 120 MPa dan suhu sinter 1150 oC, yaitu sebesar 11.006 Kg/mm2 .

Abstract

The welding SMAW has processed in high temperature (1500oC) and variation of cooling methode will give differences of value impact. The research is weld for steel alloy with three variation lap joint (I, U, V) and three cooling media (air, sea water and oil). The analysis and solution of the research conclude that weld joint by using seam V, U and I, has the highest impact in energy and value within the air cooling media. This lap joint inclined to ductile. The lap joint in the cooling media of sea water and oil has low impact in energy and value. This lap joint inclined to brittle.

Abstract

Banyak industri yang melakukan pengerolan logam, pengerolan logam atau baja akan mempengaruhi sifat mekanik yaitu regangan dan kuat tariknya, nilai pesentase perubahan sifat keduanya belum banyak diketahui. Wire drawing mampu menunjukan perubahan sifat tersebut dan parameter yang mempengaruhi adalah sudut dies, temperatur sampel dan jenis logam yang ditarik. Dalam penelitian wire drawing ini digunakan bahan Aluminium dan variasi sudut dies 6º, 10º, 14º dan temperatur lingkungan 32o. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa sampel yang ditarik mengalami penurunan regangan dan peningkatan kekuatan tarik yakni : regangan menurun sebesar 27,15 % pada sudut dies 6°, 45,11 % pada sudut dies 10° dan 52,10 %. Pada sudut dies 14°, dan kekuatan tarik meningkat sebesar 9,9 %, pada sudut dies 6°, 4,8 %, pada sudut dies 10° serta 1,6 % pada sudut dies 14odari nilai tegangan tarik awal yaitu 198,38 MPa sudut dies yang terbaik adalah 10o.
