Abstract

Transient stability analysis of a power system with wind generation has been addressed in this paper. The effects of automatic voltage regulators, power system stabilizers, and static synchronous compensators on transient stability of a power system are investigated. Various simulation results show that addition of power system stabilizer and static synchronous compensators reduce the rotor angle oscillations. However, the static synchronous compensator shows better damping characteristics and improves the stability of the wind integrated system. It has been established that the static synchronous compensator damps out the speed oscillations in the shaft of the constant speed wind turbine. A transient impact index has been proposed to prove that the static compensator damps out the rotor oscillations.

Abstract

In this paper, a robust range-free localization algorithm by realizing best hop length optimization is proposed for node localization problem in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). This algorithm is derived from classic DV-Hop method but the critical hop length between any relay nodes is accurately computed and refined in space WSNs with arbitrary network connectivity. In case of network parameters hop length between nodes can be derived without complicated computation and further optimized using Kalman filtering in which guarantees robustness even in complicated environment with random node communication range. Especially sensor fusion techniques used has well gained robustness, accuracy, scalability, and power efficiency even without accurate distance or angle measurement which is more suitable in nonlinear conditions and power limited WSNs environment. Simulation results indicate it gained high accuracy compared with DV-Hop and Centroid methods in random communication range conditions which proves it gives characteristic of high robustness. Also it needs relatively little computation time which possesses high efficiency. It can well solve localization problem with many unknown nosed in the network and results prove the theoretical analysis.

Abstract

The economic issue is an essential element to determine whether DG should be installed or not. This work presents the economical approach for multi-type DGs placement in microgrid systems with more comprehensive overview from DG’s owner perspective. Adaptive Real Coded GA (ARC-GA) with replacement process is developed to determine the location, type, and rating of DGs so as the maximum profit is achieved. The objectives of this paper are maximizing benefit cost and minimizing expenditure cost. All objectives are optimized while maintaining the bus voltage at the acceptable range and the DGs penetration levels are below of the DGs capacities. The proposed method is applied on the 33 bus microgrids systems using conventional and renewable DG technology, namely Photovoltaic (PV), Wind Turbine (WT), Micro Turbine (MT) and Gas Turbine (GT). The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the tropical country with high rainfall. It causes a flood disaster that with the loss of property and life. Currently handling flood disasters in developing countries are still using many conventional ways. By using conventional way the flood early warning system is still not able to reach the wider community so that information too late of impending disaster received by the public. Besides that the speed of information is needed in the handling of disasters. Therefore a rapid flood warning system that can reach a wide area such as the internet is necessary to minimize the effects of disasters. IoT (Internet of Thing) is smart technology which has capability to send data in real time, connected to the smart phone, sensor and web service. This ability can be used for smart application to control and manage an early warning system. In this research we also use IoT technology to monitor and control the early detection system of flood disaster. By using IoT technology, sensor data can be sent in real time from sensor to smartphone through internet network. The sensor data contains the water characteristics data on the dam that will be processed in the data base. The processing data of water characteristic will be a decision of hazard level. That decision will be sent to users as notification into the user smartphone application. This research will be useful for deeply research on disaster management system and flood early detection system in Indonesia.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is for prototyping a non-intrusive vehicle-based measurement system for drowsiness detection. The vehicle-based measurement system aims to achieve the non-intrusive drowsiness detection. The non-intrusive vehicle-based measurement achieved by placing sensors on the steering rod, gas pedal, and brake pedal. Drowsiness can be detected by comparing the position of the steering angle to the desired target angular position, especially when the difference in value of both is greater. Some sensors have been tested to obtain the actual steering angle position. From the test results, sensors that meet the criteria of accuracy are MPU6050 and HMC5883L. Both sensors have been tested in the prototyping of a vehicle-based drowsiness detection system with sufficient results. Furthermore, the prototype of non-intrusive vehicle-based drowsiness detection system has been integrated with interesting driving simulation software. The result has been able to show the actual condition of the steering position, the gas pedal and the brake pedal precisely. Moreover, this prototype opens opportunities to support the study of drowsiness detection using vehicle-based driving simulator.

Abstract

This paper introduces a new design of a cross-coupled microstrip bandpass filter (MBPF) based on hairpin defected ground structure (DGS) resonators using accurate coupling matrix (CM) technique for microwave communication systems. The paper describes the equivalent circuit of the proposed MBPF based on the DGS equivalent circuit model derived from the equivalent inductance and capacitance which occur due to the perturbation of the current in the ground plane by the presence of the slots. The paper investigates also the different external coupling mechanisms that the feed configuration affects significantly the filter response. In this paper, a four order Chebyshev topology has been adopted for designing the filter to suppress harmonics and achieve a very compact size and a wide stopband with two transmission zeros.

Abstract

One of the ongoing technologies which are used by large number of companies and users is cloud computing environment. This computing technology has proved that it provides certainly a different level of efficiency, security, privacy, flexibility and availability to its users. Cloud computing delivers on demand services to the users by using various service-based models. All these models work on utility-based computing such that users pay for their used services. Along with the various advantages of the cloud computing environment, it has its own limitations and problems such as efficient resource identification or discovery, security, task scheduling, compliance and sustainability. Among these resource identification and scheduling plays an important role because users always submits their jobs and expects responses in least possible time. Research is happening all around the world to optimize the response time, make span so as to reduce the burden on the cloud resources. In this paper, QoS based service ranking model is proposed for cloud computing environment to find the essential top ranked services. Proposed model is implemented in two phases. In the first phase, similarity computation between the users and their services is considered. In the second phase, computing the missing values based on the computed similarity measures is calculated. The efficiency of the proposed ranking is measured and the average precision correlation of the proposed ranking measure is showing better results than the existing measures.

Abstract

The implementation of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and transmit antenna selection (TAS) technique has considered in this paper since TAS-aware base station (BS) provides the low cost, low complexity, and high diversity gains. In this paper, we investigate performance of two users by deriving outage probability. The system performance benefits from design of TAS and full-duplex (FD) scheme applied at NOMA users, and bandwidth efficiency will be enhanced although self-interference exists due to FD. The main contribution lies in the exact expressions of outage probability which are derived to exhibit system performance. Different from the simulated parameters, the analytical results show that increasing number of transmit antennas at the BS is way to improve system performance.

Abstract

The using of road light which is inappropriate for road category and the illegal street light are the two main problem of roadway lighting (PJU). These problems encumber the budget paid by local government (Pemda). Local government paid electric energy for PJU based on the usage of electricity recorded by KWH meter. Meanwhile the payload of the varied roadway lightings without KWH meter will be calculated based on basic monthly rate according to name plate of power and type of the lamp. Local government applies the roadway lighting taxes (PPJU) collected by state company (PLN) from every customers based on percentage of monthly expenses of electricity. Along with the growth of town, there would be more roadways to be illuminated. It will increase the payment of electricity for roadway lighting in every each town and sub-province. This condition would progressively burden the government to settle the expense of electricity for PJU. Therefore, the existing roadway lighting system should be re-evaluated to increase efficiency of electrical usage. In additional, this evaluation will give contribution to save the budget for the roadway lighting electrical payment and with the same existing cost more roadways will get lighting.
