Abstract

This paper presents a novel approach to design a compact miniature coplanar band-pass filter by using rectangular split ring resonator. This proposed circuit is designed for the Industrial, Scientific and, Medical (ISM) frequency band applications at 2.4 GHz. At the first stage, a metamaterial resonator is designed and simulated in a TEM waveguide to verifiy its electromagnetic proprieties around the desired frequency bands. At the second stage, a band pass filter is designed using the proposed metamaterial resonator. Many parametric studies are realized to investigate the effect and influence of some resonator parameters on the proposed BPF performances. ADS Agilent and CST-MWS solvers are used in order to verify the simulated results. The circuit frequency responses show an excellent insertion loss and good return loss in the passband.

Abstract

Because of the fiber optic cables have perfect resistant to weather and environmental effects they can be installed on or with transmission line towers for the power supply control and data communication. To avoid the damages of fiber optic cables, it is used shielded fiber optic cables. Due to the using of this shielding, the electric field that produced from transmission line will be effected .In this paper is studied and compared the influence of metal shielding of fiber-optic cable in the strong electric field which produced by a high voltage transmission line for various types of channel configuration. Based on the results obtained, the metal shielding of fiber optic cables will reduce the electric field strength that lead to good efficiency of communication through the optical cable.

Abstract

Automatic car plate localization and recognition system is a system that identifies the car plate location and recognizes the characters on the car plate input images. Within the automated system, the car plate localization stage is the first stage and is the most crucial stage as the success rate of the whole system depends heavily on it. In this paper, a Malaysian car plate localization system using Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (R-CNN) is proposed. Using transfer learning on the AlexNet CNN, the localization was greatly improved achieving best precision and recall rate of 95.19% and 97.84% respectively. Besides, the proposed R-CNN was able to localize car plates in complex scenarios such as under occlusion.

Abstract

Heart rate (HR) is one of important indicator for human physiological diagnosis, and camera can be used to detect it via photoplethysmograph (PPG) signal extraction. In doing so, number of sample images required to measure the HR signal, and quality of the images itself are important to yield an accurate reading. This paper tackles such an issue by analyzing the effect of sampling interval to HR reading in compressed and original video format, obtained in various ranging locations. Technically, important facial points from video stream were estimated by using cascade regression facial tracker. Based on the facial points, region of interest (ROI) was constructed where non-rigid movement is minimal. Next, PPG signal was extracted by calculating the average value of green pixel intensity from the ROI. Following that, illumination variation was separated from the signal via independent component analysis (ICA). The PPG signal was further processed using series of signal filtering techniques to exclude frequencies beyond range of interest prior estimate the HR. From the experiment it can be observed that sampling time of 2 seconds in uncompressed video shows promising HR within the range of 1 to 5 meters.

Abstract

This paper describes the design topology of a ultra-low power low noise amplifier (LNA) for wireless sensor network (WSN) application. The proposed design of ultra-low power 2.4 GHz CMOS LNA is implemented using 0.13-μm Silterra technology. The LNA benefits of low power from forward body bias technique for first and second stages. Two stages are implemented in order to enhance the gain while obtaining low power consumption for overall circuit. The simulation results show that the total power consumed is only 0.45 mW at low supply voltage of 0.55 V. The power consumption is decreased about 36% as compared with the previous work. A gain of 15.1 dB, noise figure (NF) of 5.9 dB and input third order intercept point (IIP3) of -2 dBm are achieved. The input return loss (S11) and the output return loss (S22) is -17.6 dB and -12.3 dB, respectively. Meanwhile, the calculated figure of merit (FOM) is 7.19 mW-1.

Abstract

In this work, a microstrip patch antenna with an inset feed and defected ground structure (DGS) is designed at the resonant frequency of 2.45 GHz. The antenna is designed on a FR-4 substrate with a dielectric constant, εr of 4.5, loss tangent, tan δ of 0.019 and thickness, h of 1.6 mm. The technique of DGS is used to avoid the use of additional circuits in the antenna to suppress the harmonics. By introducing a single and additional slots DGS at both ends on the antenna ground plane, the proposed microstrip patch antenna is able to suppress the higher order harmonics. The reflection coefficient, S11 is -38.75 dB at 2.45 GHz. The proposed antenna have suppressed the higher order harmonics effectively from -38.04 dB to -2.61 dB at 4.54 GHz and from -13.08 dB to -1.38 dB at 5.76 GHz. The prototype of the antenna is fabricated for the verification of the design. The simulated and measured results are found to be in a good agreement.

Abstract

As one of the country with largest population in the world, Indonesia is facing major challenge to serve people in various sectors, one of them is health sector. Utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has a strategic role in improving efficiency and expanding services access. The main challenge related to data interoperability is the ability to integrate and synchronize data sourced from health information (e-health) systems with different (heterogeneous) platforms. This research aims to build a framework to materialize data interoperability and information exchange among e-health systems. The interoperability is materialized by utilizing service oriented architecture (SOA) paradigm and is implemented using Web Service technology. Service oriented analysis and design (SOAD) is used as method in the system development at the analysis phase and designing phase to generate service portfolio which consisting of three levels: conceptual view, logical view, and physical view. This research intruduces Interoperability Matrix (IM) to describe the modules and entities that involved in the framework design. The framework resulted from this research can be used as reference in e-health systems development in variety of health care applications.

Abstract

Image processing is mostly used for exploring image behaviour. There are several steps in image processing. Image acquisition, pre-processing, feature extraction, and classification are the processes used for the detection of human movement based on high-level feature extraction (HLFE), in which HLFE was used for feature extraction in this paper. This study proposed the use of background subtraction and frame difference. This research was conducted to analyse the difference of background subtraction and frame difference methods based on movement of human. Movement of human detected by using feature extraction were centroid image technique used. Furthermore, support vector machine (SVM) was used for classification.

Abstract

This paper uses the EEG analysis to investigate the relationship between pre-learning stress, frontal lope and long-term memory in the brain. The stress on learning stage is a challenge, especially in academic life. Stress also on learning stage affects the retrieval or recall from the memory. Nowadays; there are many recent works have discovered the relationship between stress, learning and memory performance based on different techniques. Some of these techniques are biological methods. Moreover, these methods have discovered the effect of stress based on hormones levels such as cortisol, or based on physiological effects such as blood pressure. However, these techniques have given conflicting discoveries because of the instability of hormones and an extensive number of related elements. The main aim of this research is to discover the relationship between Pre-learning stress, frontal lope, and long-term memory retrieval using EEG signals. The experimental results indicate that there is a relationship between theta rhythm in the frontal lobe and long-term memory retrieval during Pre-learning stress.

Abstract

IEEE 802.15.4 standard defines both media access control (MAC) and physical (PHY) layer protocols for low power consumption, low peak data rate, and low cost applications. Nowadays the most important feature of IEEE 802.15.4 is maximizing battery life. This paper is focusing how to achieve low average power consumption through assuming that the amount of data transmitted is short and that it is transmitted infrequently so as to keep a low duty cycle. The outcomes demonstrate that the phase shift estimation of Offset quadrature phase-shift keying (OQPSK) modulation has no impact on bit error rate (BER) if it is identical in the transmitter as same as in the receiver.
