The study would analyze some factors underlying the spatial changes on Chinese houses and interprets what has influenced them. The focusing of study is interacting the Chinese houses's layout fromSoditan, Karangturi, and Babagan that has different periods. The study based on the field observation and in-depth interview has done in June 2004 is used toanalyze Chinese houses in Lasem. There is no hypothesis, this study is to increase understanding of the spatial pattern on Chinese houses where has gone through in life's changes. Spatial Syntax is used for analysis and interpretation of Chinese houses's layout. The spatial pattern was found by interacting the irreducible objects and related to each other onhuman spatial organization in all its variability. This part would discuss factor which implicate the changes of spatial pattern on Chinese houses in Soditan, Karangturi, and Babagan. The analysis generally found that first, the changing of time periods no implicate to spatial pattern onChinese houses in Lasem. There has still keeped of using main spatial pattern on their layout. Second, the changing orientation of Chinese houses from river to roads has no influenced the spatial pattern. Third, the changes of space just has been reducing space fromhigh complexityto bemore simplicity. Regularity spatial pattern on Chinese houses is the main spatial pattern that always on ringness dimension which are six spaces : front courtyard, front terrace, praying room (Ngetiya), living room, back terrace, and back courtyard. The pattern shows in a symmetric and distributed relationship, the higher hieararchi of space is located in living room (space F).Keyword: spatial pattern, chinese house

Abstract

Sometimes called a semiotics of space, proxemics becomesmore andmore popular as a researchmethod inmany academic surroundings. Proxemics is a study of how peoplemake a structure of microspace. Although this method is more popular among anthropologists, today it has been applied in other fields of study as well. A field of study which also benefits from this method is interior design. This is caused by the very fact that interior design deals a lot with microspaces. It is important to employ thismethod in interior design research in Indonesia. Keywords: interior design, proxemics, researchmethod, semiotics of space

Abstract

Japanese garden is one of the finest gardens in the world. Its beauty has been recognizedin many countries outside Japan. Although it is difficult to be created in tropical climate such as inIndonesia, many Indonesian would like to have Japanese garden in their home. This Researchinvestigated the possibility to create Japanese garden with less element in tropical environmentwithout losing its identity. Two initial exploration studies were conducted in Kyoto and Indonesia.Fourteen traditional gardens were chosen to be explored in the first exploration study. Its aimwas to understand material and composition variation of each element in the original setting. The second one was carried out in Indonesia to find out the image of Japanese garden in theexpert's point of view. The findings of these studies were used to design ten series of pictures. Each picture contained one element of the garden which can be rated in semantic differentialscale fromweak to strong by 120 respondents. Lantern, gate, trees, stone and water basin wererated as strong element whilst fence, pond, waterfall, stone path and bridge were rated as weakelements. Five strong elements were grouped into one garden composition as well as the weakones. The garden composition picture was presented to 200 respondents in two separategroups. Each group consists of 100 respondents with one stimulus picture only. A t-test wasused to analyze the mean difference of two groups. The result shows a significant difference inrespondent's ability to recognize Japanese garden identity between group with strong gardenelements and with the weak ones.keyword : Japanese garden, garden elements, Identity

Abstract

his study is the result of an investigation of the influence of physical work environmenttoward stress at work place, particularly the color composition used. The research subjectswere thirty students of ASMI (Secretary and Management Academy) who were divided intothree groups, namely the Harmonious group, The Disharmonious group, and the Controlledgroup. The Work Stress Scale was used in the measurement process. The measurement wasdone three times: before the experiment, in the middle of the experiment (first 2 hours), and afterthe experiment (last 2 hours). The result was analysed using the Analysis of Variance (ANAVA)A-Mix-B model of SPS-2000 software application. The result of this study illustrated that therewas a significant difference on work stress level impacted by color composition applied at workspace (F = 4.149, p = 0.026). The graphic of work stress average of the Harmonious groupshowed that Harmonious color composition did not affect the work stress significantly (t =0.520, p = 0.306). The dominantly white color composition that played a role as the Controlledgroup was in fact able to reduce the work stress. The graphic showed that the Controlled grouptended to decrease significantly with these values t = 1.825, p = 0.035, and the initial work stressaverage was (0.000) higher than the final one (- 22.800). The Disharmonious group showed thatthe color composition increased the work stress level (t = 3.177, p = 0.001). It was concluded thatHarmonious color composition at work space did not influence the work stress level, dominantlywhite color composition could reduce the work stress level, and inharmonious (Disharmonious)color composition application had chances to elevate the work stress level.keywords: color composition, work space, work stresKeywords

Thespecific purpose of the research is to recognize impact of room setting and other factors towarddifable accessibility in YAKKUM. This research uses a deductive method with Applied purposivesampling to ten room based on its tool aid properties. Data were collected with triangulationmethod and analyzed descriptively. SPSS was used to analyze. The quantitative data incomparing factors of room setting which has impact on accessibility. Observed variablesincluding roomsetting (dimension and form, furniture and lay out, and environmental element ofroom). The result of this study shows that the accessibility in receptionist room was influencedby lay out and furniture, lighting, air movement; Office room: lighting, air movement; Class room:lighting and air movement; Library room: furniture and lay out, lighting, air movement; Socialroom: knob, lay out, and lighting; dining room: lay out, lighting and air movement; Laundry room:furniture; Physiotherapy room: knob, furniture and lay out; Hostel room: furniture; and Toiletinfluenced by knob, furniture and lay out, lighting, air movement. Abstract

eaching-learning process is not a linear sequence of events but a dynamic phenomenon. In a higher educational institution such as the Department of Art, Institut Seni Indonesia (Indonesia Institute of the Arts) Yogyakarta, lecturers deliver knowledge to students and at the same time the students get interesting, often unthinkable. experience unrealized by them. This research deals with such an issue. Analyzed phenomenologically, the experience of the students attending theoretical and practical classes at this institution will reveal a lot of often unthinkable meanings. Keywords: phenomenology, experience, geometric space, lived space.
