Abstract

Geometry of space becomes a more difficult course compared with the basic geometry. Considerable evidence indicates the level of difficulty. In the geometry of space, students still have to transform three-dimensional objects into two-dimensional image field. This is related to spatial ability students. By combining the usefulness of mathematics and the development of science and technology it developed a mathematical model of teaching based on computer technology. The use of Cabri 3D in teaching space geometry was meant for the students to make educated guesses / conjectures, test conjectures, construct and make generalizations generally. The hope with the help of computers, the constraints and difficulties that exist can be eliminated little by little. The problems are going to be resolved through this study were 1). Are there differences in the ability of understanding the concept of school geometry student research through teaching strategies and direct instruction assisted Cabri 3D? 2). Are there differences in the ability of generalization through teaching strategies and direct student research Cabri 3D-aided instruction? The subject of this study is the fourth semester students of the school year 2010/2011 State University majoring in mathematics negei Semarang. The results showed 1). There were no differences in the ability of understanding the concept of school geometry student research through teaching strategies and direct instruction assisted Cabri 3D. 2). There are differences in the ability of generalization through teaching strategies student-assisted research and direct instruction Cabri 3D.

Abstract

The academic purpose of kindergarten differs from any other academic puposes of schools. This fact implies differences in both learning process and evaluation. In kindergarten, the learning is thematic, and the evaluation is meant to know the students’ development. In schools, learning in each subject of study is independent, and the evaluation is to know how far the competence each student reaches. In addition, the difference causes to task of kindergarten teacher. So to evaluate kindergarten teacher needs special instrument of teacher’s performance appraisal which differs from any instruments related to teacher appraisals. This research is to formulate kindergarten teacher performance appraisal instrument (KTPAI). This research takes place in Surakarta which involve supervisor, headmaster, and teacher of kindergarten. Data evaluation of factual KTPAI and need asessment of KTPAI are compiled by supervisor and headmaster of kindergarten. The result of this research insists to develop factual KTPAI. Developed KTPAI is differences from factual KTPAI. The differences are: (a) comprehensive competence appraised, (b) distinctness in appraisal procedur and describer of each indicator, (c) compability of instrument with the kindergarten teacher’s task , (d) cohesiveness dan transparency in result of appraisal, and (e) certainty of appraisal result status, and follow up planning.

Abstract

This research is a development research which aims to develop a training model which is able to improve mathematics teachers’ competence and character. This research was implemented into two year phase. The first year focused on the exploration study and the model validation. This phase successfully identified the need of the mathematics teachers and generated a valid training model called the Innovative Mathematics Teaching Study (INNOMATTS). The second year focused on the implementation and dissemination of the model. This article aims to describe the practicality and the effectiveness of INNOMATTS training model in improving mathematics teachers’ competence and character as it was developed based on the mathematics teachers’ need, containing mathematics learning innovation and having orientation toward character education. The research follows the Research and Development (R & D) of Gall. The evaluation of the model implementation quality used three criteria: validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The result suggests that the INNOMATTS training model is practical based on the percentage response of the planning, implementation and evaluation. The model is also effective based on the evaluation of lesson plan produced during the training, the learning implemented, and the result of teacher’s competence test.

Abstract

Science is applied in schools including Kindergarten. The results of the interviews with kindergarten teachers in Semarang showed that many teachers have difficulty in teaching science because there is no guide book and companion book about theme-based science materials for the teachers all this time. The method used in this study was Research and Development (RnD). The design was a Quasi Experimental Design in the form of pre-test and One Group Design post-test. The subjects of the study were the teachers and students in group B. The procedure of the study included: (1) Planning, (2) Developing, and (3) Trial. The eligibility and readability were tested using eligibility questionnaires and random tests. The students’ character were obtained from the pre-test and posttest questionnaires. The results from the eligibility test showed good criteria. It can be concluded that they are very suitable to be used as a guide book in teaching science (physics) and very suitable to be used as a companion book for the teachers. The readability test results indicated that the teaching materials and the enrichment science (physics) materials show that this enrichment material is easy to understand. The results of the character analysis indicate that the instructional materials in this study is able to develop the students’ character.

Abstract

Cell Biology material that can not be seen with the naked eye and had to use the help tools (microscope) to be one reason for student difficulties in imagining is real. Time of lessons a limited cause not all the material can be given during lectures. Also by means of a simple (OHP) makes the material can not be described in detail. These facts affect the learning results obtained is not optimal, that is only 55% of students who obtained a value ≥ 70. Hence the need for a multimedia tool that is able to present the text, images, graphics, video, sound, and animation, so that students will gain knowledge as well as a concrete experience .The purpose of this study were: to determine the utilization of multimedia in Cell Biology course in improving student understanding. This research was conducted in 2 cycles with each cycle comprising three meetings. The first and second meetings for learning with multimedia and the third meeting was the discussion and evaluation. The main variables are the result of learning by supporting variables, such as student activity during the discussion, the performance of lecture and student responses . As an indicator of student performance is the result of learning gained ≥ 71 ≥ 80% of the whole class. The results showed in the first cycle the average results of student learning has reached 77.33 with the understanding level of 72.97%. The average study result on the second cycle is 81.77 with a level of understanding of 94.59%. To support variable (cycle I and II), ≥ 55% - 100% of students have been conducting activities during the discussion, score 77% - 100% for the performance of lecture and student responses is positive. Conclusion drawn is that the Cell Biology of learning with multimedia can increase students understanding. This is indicated by the average student learning outcomes is 77.33 with a level of understanding by 72, 97% in the first cycle increased on the second cycle was increased to 81.77 with a level of understanding reached 94.59%. Suggestions put forward is that it took a relatively long time in preparing a variety of research instruments and time efficiency in teaching and learning.
