Abstract

AbstractTHE ACCULTURATION BETWEEN ISLAM AND JAVANESE CULTURE: A study in the “Affirmation” Ritual For New Members Of Setia Hati Terate Brotherhood. The presence of Islam to the Indonesia archipelago has resulted in a dialectic relationship between the religion and local culture. Such a dialectic relationship eventually spawns several variants of Islam in Indonesia, each has a number of distinctive religious rituals as a result of acculturation process. Among the existing rituals, there is a form of “Affirmation” ritual conducted by a community members of the Setia Hati Terate Brotherhood (PSHT). This article highlights the symbolic aspects available in the “Affirmation” ritual for new members of PSHT as a form of comunal, religious expression. In the rituals, there exist a struggle between the elements of Islam and pre-Islamic beliefs, negotiation between religion and local cultures, as well as the inter-influencing processes manifested in syncretic patterns, conflicts, or other patterns that are sometimes difficult to define. Within the rituals, symbolism therein and the ritual itself emerges as an expression of the community, adding to the diversity of Islam in Indonesia.Kata Kunci: Pengesahan; Warga; PSHT; Simbol.

Abstract

AbstractTHE EXISTENCE OF GOD AND RELIGION IN THE PERSPECTIVES OF CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY. This study discusses the perspectives of contemporary society to the existence of God and religion and its relation to the practical life. The discussion uses philosophical approach or philosophy of divinity in order to obtain a thorough and fundamental understanding of the nature of faith and diversity of society today. The existence of God and religion has always incited discourses throughout the history of mankind. The unresolved debates spawning a variety of views are distinctive one to another and even contradictory. This latter fact indicates that, theologically, there are people embracing a theology and religion only on a theoretical level but not on practical (practical atheism / secularism); There are, also, people sheltering behind human inability or impossibility of knowing God (agnosticism); and there also exist people who even totally reject God and religion both theoretically and practically (atheism).Kata Kunci : Tuhan; Agama; Kehidupan Manusia.

Abstract

AbstractTHE CONSTRUCTION OF SOCIAL PHILOSOPHY OF AL-MAWARDI. Religion is believed to have a strategic role in developing social, economic and political ethics. In this context, Islam is not only developed in the area of pure speculative thought, but it also should be placed as the basis of social ethics driven by social praxis. This article discusses al-Mawardi’s thinkings about social philosophy and the theory of the social contract. According to al-Mawardi, humans are mostly in need of assistance from other parties that the interactions between them become something definite. The form of social contract offered by al-Mawardi is a human need to establish a state. State is a human need to gather and build a bond with each other. Therefore, the establishment of the state is a social contract or agreement on a voluntary basis. The uniqueness of al-Mawardi’s thoughts is that he puts God as a pivot in all social circulation. Therefore he always leaned all the thinkings and the diversity of his social life conceptions to the grand narative of Islam that is the al-Quran and al-Hadith.Kata Kunci: al-mawardi; filsafat sosial; negara.

This study finds out that Debus art seems to have experienced a shift or change because it had to adjust to be not outdated or even forgotten. Debus art today has been modified as indicated by a lot of things that never been practiced in the past. Debus has now left his home or been separated from its origin namely the tarekat. The shift can be traced in several aspects, including terms of ritual, show style, personnel recruitment pattern and goals to be achieved. Debus arts are now more likely to be used as a tool of public entertainment or just a a tourism commodity, rather than as cultural products that contain religious values.Kata Kunci: Debus Banten; Otentisitas; Komodifikasi; Politik Kebudayaan.

Abstract

AbstractRELATION BETWEEN RELIGION AND SCIENCE AFTER THE FALL OF THE REGIME OF MODERN SCIENCE Modern age is marked by the progress of humans reasoning as rational beings. Science is growing rapidly with a variety of scientific methodology that guarantees the truth findings. In contrast, Beliefs and religious truth are assessed naïve and subjective, and all non-rational-minded communities are regarded as primitive, uncivilized society. This phenomenon brings the tension in the relation between religion and science and incites the two to negate and degrade each other existence. This article seeks to analyse the dialectical relationship between religion and science in the realm of ontology and epistemology that has lasted a long time. The goal is to obtain a new horizon for the future relation between science and religion. From the ontological and epistemological perspectives, the conflict does not really have a solid foundation as religion is not dealing with spiritual issues, mystical, or non-rational an sich. In fact, religion can be studied scientifically with the appropriate methodological foundation and objective. Likewise, a review of religion can be built on scientific approach. Through this perspective, the relationship between religion and science is no longer diametric, but interdisciplinary dialectic that mutually enrich and strengthen each other.Kata Kunci: Agama, Ilmu, hubungan interdisipliner

Abstract

AbstractNATURALISM THEOLOGY AND ITS IMPLICATIONS TO THE CONTEMPORARY HUMAN CIVILIZATION PARADIGMS. This article discusses the theology of naturalism which has led modern civilization to become more positivistic. Metaphysics idealism and super-natural issue have been eroded and no longer have a place in modern western thought as they have been transferred to concrete things or positivistics. Theology of naturalism, which is closely related to natural philosophy, relies solely on the existence of nature and the ability of human reasoning. Theology of naturalism views that nature runs its universality without the intervention of God. God is believed to be the creator of the universe; but after the nature is created, God goes out of nature. In addition, theology of naturalism also rejects all metaphysics and spiritual existing in religions. Religion is considered true if the truth is natural. Factually, theology of naturalism has implications to the greater part of contemporary human civilization. The increase in violent behavior, sexual freedom, corruption and so forth, philosophically, is a representation of philosophy without God, without metaphysic-spiritual and religion.Kata Kunci : Teologi Naturalisme; Spiritual-metafisik; Agama; Peradaban Kontemporer.

Abstract

AbstractISLAMIC SAINS IN THE PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE DISCOURSE. Islamic science is still confined within the circle of pseudoscience, or still at the level of justification Bucaillian models. As a building of science, Islamic science certainly has a philosophical base. This paper seeks to examine Islamic science in the persectives philosophy of science. In this perspective, the scientific nature of science is determined by the accuracy of the use of theory and methodology, without neglecting the historical and sociological aspects as well as the theological and metaphysical facets. If the former is the basis of logic and scientific objectivity, and the second is the humanitarian aspect of science, then the third is the basis of belief, faith, and the diversity of science. With these three essential elements, Islamic science, clerly, can be scientific. Even so, the new definition of Islamic Science as a scientific activity should be implemented in the form of research programs. By doing so, Islamic Science may produce new findings, theories, methodologies, contexts, etc. Without such efforts, the image of pseudoscience and Bucaillian justification will never disappear from the body of Islamic Science.Kata Kunci: sains Islam; filsafat ilmu; epistemologi

AbstractHERMENEUTICALY EPISTEMOLOGY ON RICHARD RORTHY PERSPEKTIVE. This paper aims to provide a description of Rorty’s rejection on epistemology and then replace it with hermeneutics. Rorty’s rejection is actually a form of criticism by Rorty on foundational epistemology that is rooted in the ideas of Descartes, Locke, and Kant. According to Rorty, Epistemology should not be narrowly understood in the sense of foundational epistemology. And Rorty himself actually was having an epistemology paradigm when rejecting foundational epistemology, because Rosty involved himself in the world of knowledge.Kata Kunci: epistemologi; hermeneutika; fondasionalisme; anti-fondasionalisme.

Abstract

AbstractINITIATING HUMANITY-BASED KNOWLEDGE (Reviewing Henry Bergson’s views). It has been realized that modern knowledge systems have stimulated a number of implications which are not conducive to human and humanity. Hence, the development of humanity-based knowledge is becoming a very important thing to be displayed. This paper attempts to examine the fundamental structure of human knowledge in the view of Henry Bergson and its relevance to the development of humanity-based knowledge. Henry Bergson puts humans and humanity as a basis and a permanent source of human knowledge structures. The cornerstone of the ontological, epistemological and axiological human knowledge is human and humanity. The means and the resources to gain knowledge, in his view, are : senses, reason, conscience or intuition. These three elements are synergistic or mutually reinforcing. The structure of human knowledge in Bergson’s philosophical thought is coherent to the humanity-based knowledge which also puts human and humanity as its basis, sources and fundamental goals.Kata Kunci : Struktur Pengetahuan; Kemanusiaan.
