Abstract

This research is a study of the mediatization of the ḥadīth on Dajjāl (the anti-Christ) in the context of media culture. Mediatization of the ḥadīth through illustrations allows every Muslim to understand the stages and events that will occur at the End of the Time (Ākhir al-Zamān). Such ḥadīth is pre-actual doctrinal texts in Islam. This article uses the theory of mediatization that has a close link with the discipline of media studies and religiosity. We argue that the ḥadīth illus­tration as an expression of religious beliefs is a continuation of the massive use of technology in understanding religious doctrines. On the other hand, the illustration of the ḥadīth. Ḥadīth on the Dajjāl in digital media has formed a new pattern in the understanding of ḥadīth from abstract-imaginative to concrete-imaginative. The illustration of the Dajjāl has become an indication of the widespread role of the media in the spread of Islamic doctrines, and its changing role from being dominated by the texts to being dominated by the logic of religion. This research uses the theory of mediatization with the approach of media culture. The data is obtained from footage of such ḥadīth documentary airing on YouTube accounts. These shows usually refer to preachers who are concerned with conveying the contents of the ḥadīth.

Abstract

In the Islamic intellectual tradition, Being (wujūd) is not limited to physical things. God is also understood as Being; indeed, He is the Absolute Being itself; which of Him, manifests all metaphysical and physical realities. This physical nature is one of the realities caused by God; as well as the metaphysical reality of 'natural law' called 'sunnatullāh' in Islam. It is necessary to know how the power of God can connect to this universe. The question presupposes cosmological research, which needs to involve the study of God and His attributes as well. Methodologically, the verification of Islamic philosophical ideas among Muslim philosophers to Sufis, involves the development of the key concept from tafsīr and ta'wīl among the Quranic verses (āyat) that discuss God's relationship with Nature itself; from this framework, the relationship between the two can be explained. This article, offers a study of the views of Muslim thinkers: from philosophers to Sufis, about the relationship; which specifically highlights that God and Nature are part of the concept of 'reality' in the Islamic view. The study concludes several important things, especially that God is the Absolute Being; which from Him, another reality as the sign (āyat) of His Existence created. His sunnatullāh again manifests in God’s creatures that undergo being devastated and recreated.

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the immunity factor of Acehnese loyalty to the ulama. Generally, if the ulama fail to respond to problems that arise in modernity, they are abandoned by society. Modernization is taking place very quickly in Aceh. In Aceh, even though the ulama were unable to respond to modernity, they were never abandoned by the community. The type of modernization that is the focus of the author's observation is development, politics, and economics which includes banking and trade. Using a qualitative approach, this study finds, that is in Aceh, precisely because the ulama do not respond to modernity, the immunity of loyalty to the ulama can continue. In Aceh, secular-minded society, they give authority to experts in their respective fields. Because the ulama are treated as religious experts, then when they do not respond to other fields such as development, politics, economics and other fields, they become respected. Although only given space in the field of religion, the position of the ulama remains very important in Aceh because religion is a very important part of the life of the Acehnese people

Abstract

This article aims to describe Rebo Wekasan and its various rituals by focusing on the thoughts of KH. Abdul Hamid Kudus have written particularly in his work Kanz al-Najāḥ wa al-Surūr. The data was collected through the documen­tation method and analyzed critically. This study found that Rebo Wekasan ritual is local wisdom combined with Islamic values. The origins of rituals carried out by some Indonesian Muslim people, especially on Java, often refer to the opinion of KH. Abdul Hamid Kudus. His thought is that Allah reveals various kinds of disasters and trials on the last Wednesday of the month of Ṣafar, so that people were advised to perform certain rituals such as sunnah prayers, reading verses of the Qur'an, ṣalawat, and praying. These rituals are indeed practiced in several areas in Java with various modifications of local traditions which are manifested in the form of cultural carnivals, Quranic recitations, and selamatan (local gathering). However, his book is an inseparable from criticism, especially criticisms of sources that are considered less authoritative and critical in terms of the quality of the hadith about Rebo Wekasan.

Abstract

 This article elaborates on the role and movement of murshid as an informal institution in the tarekat, which is at the same time an integral part of the Sufism tradition. By using a socio-historical approach, this article identifies the intellectual movement of murshid in reproducing and reformulating strong beliefs as a connector of scientific transmission traditions (sanad), which are convened into two categories. First, the movement that interprets murshid activism in terms of their personal characteristics, such as their thoughts that play its function in regulating some religious aspects, especially as a reference for the followers. Second, the musrhid movement that links a structure into social functions, for example creating, disseminating, and carrying out culture. Murshid in this category is identified as the holder of scientific sanad that have vertical mobility to save the world so that it does not become a prison for individuality. This category of murshid charisma can be the foundation of the followers of the tarekat to avoid a lot of false information, the spread of hoax news from social media, and various other noises in this post-truth era.

Abstract

This paper discusses the origins of Mahdiism (al-Mahdi al-Muntaẓar) that are constructed using the mahdawiyyah ḥadīth with the status of aḥad (single transmitter) and ḍa'īf (weak). Nevertheless, this belief (Mahdiism) has deep roots in the theological reason of Muslims. By the historical approach, the finding shows that Mahdiism has roots in millenarianism (belief of the saviors' presence) that had existed in pre-Islamic traditions, such as Jewish and Christian. The elementary form of Islamic millenarianism is the concept of prophethood, but when the prophethood concept was deemed finished, it continued into the concept of Mahdiism. The first emergence of Mahdiism is in line with the emergence of mahdawiyyah ḥadīth. The emergence context of the mahda­wiyyah ḥadīth revolves around the power transition from the Umayyad dynasty to the Abbasid dynasty, which always involved Shiite followers as the political victims. The contact between Shiites with the Jewish former and Christian former during the conflict at that time influenced the style of Shiite theology, like as millenarianism. The Shi'ites propagate the presence of al-Mahdi, as the savior from descendants of the prophet (Ahl al-Bait) described through the mahdawiyyah hadiths. Among the narrators of mahdawiyyah ḥadīth are Jewish former (Ka'ab al-Aḥbar) and Christians former (Wahb b. Munabbih). They were the pioneers who incorporated the millenarianism into the Mahdiism.

Abstract

Abstract:This work investigates the approach used by Imam Bediuzzaman Said Nursi in the discourse on Islamic morality, and to understand his lively scriptural approach to the moral values in which it makes one’s life meaningful and purposeful. This work is aimed to highlight distinctive aspects and features of his approach and methodology used in his Qur’anic exegesis, Rasail al-Nur, which relate to the moral education. It discusses the background, the reason and the purpose behind Imam Bediuzzaman’s approach to the issue at hand. It is also important to note down that his writing is not the result of a merely intellectual enterprise, but also the living answers to problems he has personally experienced. The thesis follows library and textual analysis to address the main problematic. Hence, it concludes that it is necessary to situate Imam Bediuzzaman’s work within the context of Tauhid (Divine Unity) framework, which constitutes the background of his entire system of thought. Indeed, Imam Bediuzzaman’s approach provides a scaffold for a profound understanding and interpretation of the concept of morality and its impact on one’s life and social fabric.Abstrak: Karya ini menginvestigasi pendekatan yang digunakan oleh Imam Bediuzzaman Said Nursi dalam wacana moralitas Islam, dan untuk memahami pendekatanTEOLOGIA, VOLUME 24, NOMOR 1, JANUARI-JUNI 201322kitab sucinya yang cemerlang terhadap nilai-nilai moral yang membuat kehidupan seseorang bermakna dan bermanfaat. Karya ini juga dimaksudkan untuk menyoroti aspek yang khas dan berbeda dari pendekatan dan metodologi yang digunakannya dalam penafsiran al-Quran, Rasā’il al-Nūr, yang dikaitkan dengan pendidikan moral. Di sini akan dibahas tentang latar belakang, alasan dan tujuan dibalik pendekatan Imam Bediuzzaman terhadap isu tersebut. Juga, penting dicatat bahwa tulisannya bukanlah hasil dari keberanian intelektual semata-mata, melainkan jiga jawaban-jawaban langsung terhadap persoalan-persoalan yang dialaminya secara pribadi. Tesis ini mengikuti analisis pustaka dan tekstual yang difokuskan pada problematika utama. Karena itu, penting utuk menempatkan karya Imam Bediuzzaman dalam konteks kerangka Tauhid, yang merupakan latar belakang dari seluruh sistem pemikirannya. Abstract

Abstract: Epistemologically speaking, Esack’s herme­neu­tics is based on reception hermeneutics which is populer in the hand of Biblical hermenut, Fran­cis Shcussler-Fiorenza. In this hermeneutics, the truth of the holy books are seen in an eye of how far can the hermeneutics solve the actual human problems. This is wholly different from that of revelationist who put very huge burden on the discourse on God and how is He present and being involve in the world. Some other hermeneuts also contributed in a different level. In his hermeneutics, Esack put the three basic elements of hermeneutics namely the text-its author, interpreters, and an on going interpreta­tive activity itself. His basic assumption is a particular, contextual and practical interpretation. In South Africa’s  context, Esack tried to transform the context of oppression and dehumanization by apartheid into a critical interpretative model. This thought is based on a non prophetic human experience which is ba­sically interpretative and socially-culturally contex­tual. By this, it is impossible to sustain the existence of a static, universal, united and free-value interpretation. Reversally, this pursued a contextual-particular, temporal and “bias” interpretation. Abstrak: Pembicaraan secara epistemologis, hermeneutika Farid Esack berdasarkan pada hermeneutika resepsi yang populer di tangan ahli hermeneutika Biblikal, Francis Shcussler-Fiorenza. Dalam hermeneutika ini, kebenaran dari kitab-kitab suci dilihat dilihat dari sebuah pandangan sejauhmana bisa hermeneutika memecahkan persoalan-persoalan manusia aktual. Secara keseluruhan ini berbeda dari pewahyu yang meletakkan sangat besar dalam wacana tentang Tuhan dan bagaimana Dia menghadirkan dan terlibat di dunia ini. Beberapa hermeneutika yang lain juga berkontribusi pada level yang berbeda. Dalam hermeneutikanya, Esack menempatkan tiga unsur dasar hermeneutika, yaitu pengarang teks itu sendiri, penafsir, dan berlanjut pada aktivitas interpretatif sendiri. Asumsi dasarnya adalah partikular, kontekstual dan interpretasi praktis. Dalam konteks Afrika Selatan, Esack mencoba mentransformasi konteks penindasan dan dehumanisasi oleh apartheid [politik pemisahan penduduk yang bukan berkulit putih di Republik Afrika Selatan]  ke dalam sebuah model interpretatif kritis. Pemikiran ini berdasarkan pada pengalaman manusia yang non profetik yang pada dasarnya merupakan konteks interpretatif dan kontekstual secara sosio-kultural. Melalui ini memungkinkan untuk mempertahankan eksistensi statik, universal, keutuhan, dan interpretasi bebas nilai. Abstract

Abstract: One of aspects of Islam studied by orientalists is the Qur’an. They have written many books on the Qur’ān. One of themes of Qur’anic studies written by orientalists are about influences of Judeo-Christianity tradition in the Qur’ān. They try to prove the influences of Judeo-Christianity tradition in the Qur’ān. One of orientalists who try to prove the influences of Judeo-Christianity tradition in the Qur’ān is John Wansbrough, a Jewish orientalist. In studying the Qur’ān, Wansbrough uses literary analysis, an analysis based on the text apart from historical context. He does not believe in historical context relates to Qur’anic revelation. Whereas Qur’anic revelation relates to the events occurred in Muḥammad’s life time. By using historical approach, Fazlur Rahman proves that qur’anic revelation relates to the history so-called asbāb al-nuzūl. Rahman insists that the study of the Qur’ān done by Wansbrough does not make sense. Abstrak: Di antara aspek-aspek dalam Islam yang dikaji oleh para orientalis adalah al-Quran. Sudah banyak karya mengenai al-Quran yang dihasilkan oleh para orientalis. Sebagian dari karya orientalis mengenai al-Quran bertema­kan pengaruh Yahudi-Kristen dalam al-Quran. Para orientalis mencoba untuk membuktikan adanya pengaruh Yahudi-Kristen. Salah satu dari mereka adalah John Wansbrough. Ia mengkaji al-Quran dengan menggunakan analisis sastera (literary analysis), suatu analisis yang didasarkan pada teks terlepas dari konteks sejarah. Ia tidak mempercayai bukti-bukti sejarah berkaitan dengan turunnya al-Quran. Padahal turunnya al-Quran berkaitan dengan peristiwa-peristiwa yang terjadi masa Nabi Muḥammad. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan analisis sejarah yang dilakukan oleh Fazlur Rahman. Rahman sendiri dengan tegas mengatakan bahwa kajian terhadap al-Quran yang dilakukan Wansbrough dengan menggunakan analisis sastera tidak masuk akal karena ada banyak kejanggalan. Abstract: The terminology of various theology concepts is very basic in human life, especially when man realizes that he is a creature  that have duty to submissive and obedient to God as his creator. Talking about the relationship between man and God will, so other beliefs to the prophets, angles, and another creatures should be aroused, We must prove everything of ours believing in the real life. Therefore, thestudy of theological view,  alsobe associated with the functions and obligations of human beings responsible in this life. There are various concepts of belief in God, the Prophets, Angels,  and  another creatures, is how tobecome an habit over the years, it becomes very important to be revitalized in a more meaningful understanding of the dynamics of human daily life. Through that theological beliefs, expected to reflect the improvement of human performance and dedication in order to carry out the mandate as earth’s caliph. Abstrak: Terminologi tentang teologi dengan berbagai kosep dan teorinya merupakan hal yang sangat mendasar dalam kehidupan manusia, apalagi ketika menusia me­nyadari bahwa dirinya sebagai makhluk memiliki kuajiban untuk tunduk dan patuh kepada penciptanya Tuhan Yang Maha Esa. Berbicara masalah hubungan antara manusia dan Tuhan akan me­refleksikan kepercayaan lain yang wajib muncul adanya, seperti kepercayaan kepada Nabi, Malaikat dan kepercayaan kepada makhluk halus lainnya. Keper­cayaan kepada semuanya itu harus di­buktikan secara nyata dalam kehidupan keseharian manusia. Oleh karena itu dalam penelitian tentang pemikiran teologi, juga harus dikaitkan dengan fungsi dan kwajiban manusia yang bertanggungjawab dalam ke­hidupan di dunia ini. Berbagai konsep tentang ke­percayaan kepada Tuhan, Nabi,  Malakat dan lain sebagainya yang bersifat transendental sebagai­mana menjadi kebiasaan selama ini, menjadi sangat penting untuk direvitalisasikan dalam pemahaman yang lebih bermakna demi kepentingan di dunia dalam dinamika keseharian manusia. Melalui pembumian keyakinan teologis itu, diharapkan mampu merefleksikan kepada pe­n­ingkatan kinerja dan dedikasi manusia dalam rang­ka mengemban amanat ke­khalifah­annya di bumi ini.
