Abstract

When bathing, wound in human skin is likely to be exposed to water. Somehow, it would cause discomfort. The use of the wound cover (plaster, band aid, bandage) is less than satisfactory when used as taking a bath. This research will develop wound closure products in the bath, from the stage of concept development, design system level, and planning level of details. Results from trials of potential users indicate that this tool successfully met consumer needs and technical requirements which are prioritized to be developed.

Abstract

Assembly line balancing problem (ALBP) is well known to perform an optimize line balance efficiency as a result of assigning a series of work elements under certain restrictions. Work elements, cycle time, process time for each work element, and number of predecessors are some of important inputs needed to generate the problem. In a real system, these data can always be changed. In some case, these data can also be extensive. Manual computation is not recommended to solve the problem. In addition to the length of time required, manual computation is often inaccurate. This paper implements special computing programs to solve simple line balancing problem (SLBP) faster and more accurate. Three common used of line balancing algorithms such as Computer Method for Sequencing Operations for Assembly Lines (COMSOAL), task with Least Number of Predecessors (TLNP), and Largest Candidate (LC) are programmed using three different tools, VBA Excel 2007, Visual Basic (VB) database 6.0, and Visual Studio 2008 C++. The programs will be able to read a maximum of 50 work elements and a maximum of 5 predecessors for each work element inputted by users. The results will be the optimum number of work stations, work elements assigned for each station, and line balance efficiency.

Abstract

Not all types of mobile phone are successful in entering the market because some types of the mobile phone have a negative perception of user. Therefore, it is important to understand the influence of mobile phone’s characteristics in the local user perception. This research investigates the influence of QWERTY mobile phone’s forms in the perception of Indonesian user. First, some alternatives of mobile phone’s form are developed based on a certain number of mobile phone’s models. At the second stage, some word pairs as design attributes of the mobile phone are chosen to represent the user perception of mobile phone. At the final stage, a survey is conducted to investigate the influence of the developed form alternatives to the user perception. Based on the research, users perceive mobile phone’s form with curved top and straight bottom shapes and mobile phone’s form with slider and antenna as the most negative form. Meanwhile, mobile phone’s form with curved top and bottom shapes and mobile phone’s form without slider and antenna are perceived by the user as the most positive form.

Abstract

The trend of global manufacturing era (world class manufacturing) is partnership and long term cooperation. In the automotive industry, component and part supply chain structure is closely linked, so the quality of the supplier determines the quality of the final product. Global manufacturing quality benchmarking approach is used to improve the quality of the automotive component industry from domestic suppliers (local content). The purpose of this study is to assess the supplier in accordance to a predetermined quality to be a potential partner. The study was conducted for six groups of suppliers: engine component manufacturers, steering and suspension, car accessories, electric, chassis and tires. The assessment criteria consist of price, flexibility, quality, delivery, and services. Data were collected from 20 automotive components suppliers with check lists, interviews and direct observation to the factory. Determination of the weight of the assessment is done using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. By conducting priority sequencing, the benchmarking of six groups of suppliers of automotive components and best supplier selection can be done. In addition, the benchmarking process of a supplier that can serve as a best practices process is also obtained.

Abstract

The Injection Department of PT Omni Kemas Industry has several problems in machines’ breakdown and in forecasting the customers’ demand. Besides that, the company also wants to maximize their profit. Therefore, the aim of this final assignment is to minimize the machines’ breakdown, demand forecasting and profit maximizing. This final assignment counts the frequencies and intervals of preventive replacements and inspections based on preventive maintenance method and also forecasts customers’ demand based on the smallest error generated by the methods. Then, the outputs from the preventive maintenance and demand forecasting are used in production amount optimalizing process in order to gain profit maximizing.

Abstract

Product transportationforcrude palm oil is a complex problem. The complexity is caused by the spread of the location of the oil palm plantationsand mills, the current and potential transportation network, the capacity constraint of each oil factory, the perishable characteristics of the product, the limited of port and port capacity which also depends on their geographical location and the supply fluctuation from plantationsto the factories due to their age. This paper will give an alternative solution which has not yet discussed in the earlier publications by providing a decision alternative related to product transportation from oil mills to ports using GIS based network analyst. The solution is a decision support system that integrate GIS and shortest path model. Spatial decision support system which has built have the capability to accomodate transportation network condition to find the best path from oil mills to the portswhich can be used for further decision making. This research shows that the short distance is not always as the fastest path and the lowest cost due to the condition of the network. The selection of development strategy in CPO agroindustry and the improvement of transportation infrastructures will be able to improve the performance of CPO industry significantly.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the probability of customer to switch from one brand of motorcycle to another. In this research, Markov Chains is used to analyze the switching probability. This research begins with identification of the initial marketing variables. In order to analyze brand loyalty with Markov Chains, three types of motorcycle from economic under-bone class (110-115cc) have been selected namely Absolute Revo, Vega ZR, Smash Titan and other types outside the class are used as comparison. Mann Whitney U Test is used to examine whether there are differences on marketing variables between men and women when selecting their motorcycle. The result of this research shows that the most loyal customer is in the type of motorcycle outside the economic underbone class. The most affecting variables that determine the existing motorcycle preferences is the availability of spareparts and the number of authorized service center for Absolute Revo, comfortable while driving for Vega ZR, and reliability motorcycle engine for Smash Titan and other types. The most variables that determine switching to another type of motorcycle is the product innovation. The results of Mann Whitney U test show that there are significant differences in marketing variables between male and female in existing motorcycle preferences which are motorcycle design and engine specifications.
