Abstract

When bathing, wound in human skin is likely to be exposed to water. Somehow, it would cause discomfort. The use of the wound cover (plaster, band aid, bandage) is less than satisfactory when used as taking a bath. This research will develop wound closure products in the bath, from the stage of concept development, design system level, and planning level of details. Results from trials of potential users indicate that this tool successfully met consumer needs and technical requirements which are prioritized to be developed.

Abstract

PT PSA in its 16 months of operations do not have a structured production planning, beside that material planning and management is conducted based on intuition. Based on these conditions, this study aims to create a global production image to maximize profit, and material planning and management for the June 2008 period. The integer linear programming method is used due to the integer unit characteristics of the final product; thereby the optimization results should also be in in integer. The optimum results from the profit maximization problem is Rp 968,184,500.00 derived from production of 11058 balado crisps boxes, 19455 cheese crisps boxes, 16636 pea boxes and 13166 pilus boxes. From the profit maximization problem results, it is concluded that the resource capacity of PT PSA is enough to fulfill production plan for the June 2009 period.

Abstract

Warehouse design has an important role in a supply chain system, so it requires a good planning. This study aims to determine and select the warehouse location with the companys management criteria and optimal design of warehouse layout, followed by designing the layout and the existing facilities at the warehouse in accordance with the principles of the warehouse layout design. The layout design refers to: (1) facility layout problem (FLP) which is divided into Static, Dynamic and Stochastic Layout Problem, (2) facility re-layout problem (FRLP), (3) systematic layout planning (SLP). Warehouse site selection uses value of consideration factors which are keys of success of the company. After the step of location selection is location determination of the warehouse uses calculation of both extrapolation request and the required number of racks, while warehouse layout design uses the activity relationship chart, activity relationship diagram, and area allocation diagram to determine the room positions and warehouse facilities in the area. After doing the whole calculations, the location chosen for the new warehouse is at Cipondoh, Tangerang. The number of racks required is 98 retail shelves, 213 bulky shelves, 412 pallets, 69bulky and heavy duty racks. Based on the activity relationship chart (ARC), activity relationship diagram (ARD), and area allocation diagram (AAD), the warehouse layout is obtained for the new warehouse at Cipondoh that can be applied by the company for building Distribution Center project.

Abstract

Environmental pollution caused by waste, especially plastics is unavoidable nowadays. Recycling is one of the creative methods that can be done to reduce the amount of plastic waste on the rise. Waste plastics can be recycled into a substitute raw material for woven natural materials (pandanus), which is already decreasing and hard to find and can also be used as an alternative coating material or upholstery on interior products. Processing of plastic waste until it is in the ready-to-use stage is easier to do than natural materials since it does not have to go through many stages such as drying and coloring. In addition, plastic waste has a modern color and texture, therefore creativity and foresight in making use of its advantages is needed by designing products that fits. Benefits of using plastic material compared to natural materials are strength, smoother texture, glossy and more resistant to water.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the importance of take-out food packaging attributes, using conjoint analysis approach among consumers of take-out food products in Jakarta, Indonesia. The conjoint results indicated that perception about packaging materials (such as paper, plastic, and polystyrene foam) took the most important role in overall consumer perception. The clustering results showed that there were strong segmentations for take-out food packaging material considered most important by consumers. Some consumers were mostly oriented to the colour of packaging, while some concerned on packaging shape and packaging information. Segmentation variables based on packaging response could provide very useful information to maximize image of products through the package’s impact

Abstract

This research investigates the continuous review inventory model involving variable lead time with partial backorders, where the amount is uncertain. PT ICI Paints Indonesia is one of chemical industries which produced paint. The main problems faced by company are often occur stock out and also over stock of raw material replenishment, and the second case is raw material ordering lead time which can’t be controlled and determined its extent so the company more depend on the supplier policy. The purpose of this research is to suggest the optimal raw material inventory system alternatives synchronized with the stock out characteristics and the condition can be occurred. Besides, the backorder raw material inventory control can reduce lead time and raw material ordering cost. After the calculation, the optimal solution of inventory models can be obtained; those are with backorder condition which produced the annual inventory total cost amount of 15.069.845.628, 27 rupiahs; which mean it just effectively save inventory cost by 5, 81% for the company.

Abstract

Along with increased consumer demand of motorcycles, PT Astra Honda Motor as the sole manufacturing company as well as the license holder of Honda motorcycle brand, attempt to fulfill consumer demand by increasing production capacity. To be able to increase the amount of planned production capacity, PT Astra Honda Motor, enacted several policies, such as optimization of existing production capacity, investment in new plant area, and cooperate with the sub contractors. One of the working area of PT Astra Honda Motor, which was affected by these policies is to optimization of the production capacity of Line 1 Welding Frame Body Comp. . The research objective was to try to plan the layout, to improve performance and optimization of line. The aim of the Designing and Making a New Line Welding Frame Body Comp is to improve the performance and optimization of existing production line. After the design of the New Line 1 Welding Frame Comp is completed, weekly production capacity is in accordance with the installed production capacity , smoother process and material flow and increased performance resulted due to the achievement of the operator workstation being more secure and comfortable

Abstract

Assembly line balancing problem (ALBP) is well known to perform an optimize line balance efficiency as a result of assigning a series of work elements under certain restrictions. Work elements, cycle time, process time for each work element, and number of predecessors are some of important inputs needed to generate the problem. In a real system, these data can always be changed. In some case, these data can also be extensive. Manual computation is not recommended to solve the problem. In addition to the length of time required, manual computation is often inaccurate. This paper implements special computing programs to solve simple line balancing problem (SLBP) faster and more accurate. Three common used of line balancing algorithms such as Computer Method for Sequencing Operations for Assembly Lines (COMSOAL), task with Least Number of Predecessors (TLNP), and Largest Candidate (LC) are programmed using three different tools, VBA Excel 2007, Visual Basic (VB) database 6.0, and Visual Studio 2008 C++. The programs will be able to read a maximum of 50 work elements and a maximum of 5 predecessors for each work element inputted by users. The results will be the optimum number of work stations, work elements assigned for each station, and line balance efficiency.

Abstract

With a good product quality, it is expected that the consumers can trust the product. Fulfilling this need, a quality improvement program is implemented with the aim of producing products with higher quality but with less cost. The problem faced by PT USC is the number of defects in production caused by the lack of quality control to product defects. The method used to solve the problem is FMEA and seven tools methods consisting of control charts, pareto diagram, and cause-effect diagram. By performing calculations sigma capability, sigma value 4.7064 obtained by following the reference Motorola’s sigma. For new company who early founded, to say the sigma value is pretty good although it should be continuously improved to nearly the level of six sigma.

Abstract

This research executes a working measurement or time study of each operator on three work stations in the finishing line. From the calculation, it is identified that workload of each operator is very low with an average efficiency of 28%. The number of operators can be optimized from nine to three people, so that work efficiency will increase to approximately 85%. To better see the potency of work element repair with no added value, Yamazumi loading chart is created. Meanwhile, to ensure that the process works, a work standardization of process flow diagrams and sequence of work, takt time, and cycle time is implemented, where the cycle time must be set after the proposed improvements are implemented.
