Abstract

Less ergonomic job conditions will generate more worker fatigue, caused stress created by parts of the body that are not comfortable. Thereby the existing work system should be improved by incorporating ergonomic principles. This work system will be improved by rearranging equipments and modifying facility layout. To improve arrangement of the facility layout a cartography of process flow is made. Data is also collected to support creating a more ergonomic design. Collected data includes a questionnaire to list complaints from employees, worker anthropometry data, and direct interviews. Due to analysis and observation it is recommended to repair several identified equipments such as working chair and jig (packaging). Current equipments are not fit to be used and have the potency to generate worker illness. Survey results also indicate that there are complaints of performance decrease in the arm, waist, calf, hand, and shoulder. Complaints of pain in the waist and arm reach 12.4 percent.

Abstract

This research analyzed printing quality at Commercial Unit of PT “G” in Cikarang using DMAIC method (N=46), that implemented six sigma in its production processes. The Define level identified color stability as a significant factor for printing quality. The Measure level accessed DPMO and Sigma level for color stability (ΔE) at 10,192 (σ=3.82), and stability processes (density, dot gain, and trapping) were approximately at 413,472(σ=1.72). Analyzes for stability processes showed some observations exceeded UCL and LCL; for capability processes showed the level of color stability <1.0 (ΔE=0.82); stability processes of dot gain and trapping <1.0 (density = 1.08; dot gain=0.78; trapping=0.62). Factor analysis was done utilizing fishbone diagram and FMEA. At Improve level, some suggestions were recommended to increase the six sigma level. At Control level, the suggestions implemented were documented. The findings indicated that DPMO decreased as much as 65.22% that implicated the increase of σ level from 3.82 to 4.19 for color stability, from 3.33 to 3.77 for density, from 0.85 to 2.15 for dot gain, and from 1.59 to 2.49 for trapping.

Abstract

The trend of global manufacturing era (world class manufacturing) is partnership and long term cooperation. In the automotive industry, component and part supply chain structure is closely linked, so the quality of the supplier determines the quality of the final product. Global manufacturing quality benchmarking approach is used to improve the quality of the automotive component industry from domestic suppliers (local content). The purpose of this study is to assess the supplier in accordance to a predetermined quality to be a potential partner. The study was conducted for six groups of suppliers: engine component manufacturers, steering and suspension, car accessories, electric, chassis and tires. The assessment criteria consist of price, flexibility, quality, delivery, and services. Data were collected from 20 automotive components suppliers with check lists, interviews and direct observation to the factory. Determination of the weight of the assessment is done using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. By conducting priority sequencing, the benchmarking of six groups of suppliers of automotive components and best supplier selection can be done. In addition, the benchmarking process of a supplier that can serve as a best practices process is also obtained.

Abstract

Examining the relationship between factors that effects job performance and job satisfaction is the purpose of this study. Based on the extant literature and research done before on job performance and job satisfaction, we proposed a structural model depicting hypothesized associations between incentive, superiors and working condition on job performance and satisfaction. Data are collected from 100 floor employees of Carrefour Ambasador Jakarta, through research questioner instrument, and is run with LISREL 7.31 software. The results, based on structural equation modeling (SEM), showes that only ‘superiors’ that really effects 35.32% of job performance at Carrefour Ambasador. While job performance effects 38.75% of job satisfaction. Modification model which is the result of this study, has breaks several hypothetical assumptions that effect job satisfaction at Carrefour Ambasador.

Abstract

PT TDW is an automotive manufacturing company that manufactures disc brakes and drum brakes. According to customer data for 2010 period, order of body caliper R2 will increase 16.17% therefore the current production capacity is insufficient. A kaizen project is made to increase the production capacity. The main idea is to increase the production capacity without buying new production unit machine by improvising the current machine process to be faster therefore a smaller number of production machines in one machine line can achieve the same output as before. The company will be able to have one new line where each machine is already incorporated in the new improved process line. Trial results show that the improvement has succeeded in decreasing process time, and the next step is to apply the improvement to all machines. After the new capacity is recalculated there is an 13.86% increase in capacity, sufficient for providing customer needs. IDR 8.485.181.549 IDR is also gained from cost reduction of this kaizen.

Abstract

This study discussed about the quality control of product E produced by PT DYN, Tbk., a plastic packaging manufacturer in Jatake, Banten. P map was used to map whether the product has been in the control limits or not. Pareto diagram was used in determining the biggest types of defects that occured in the product mapped. Causal diagram was used in determining the cause of defects in the product. For the purposes of the study, we collected data about the amount of production and the amount of defects of product E for three months as much as 45992. Based on the p map, there were seven data outside the control limits which were 9, 27, 30, 42, 43, 48 and 63. There were three biggest flaws obtained from Pareto diagram, i.e. black spots, rough body, and bram. The data was then analyzed using causal diagram. The results showed that the causes of the defects were: (1) human – less conscientious and less skilled ; (2) material – dirty raw materials, (3) methods – the work process did not follow the work standards, (4) machine – inappropriate settings, and (5) environment – dirty. Therefore, the company must make improvements to machinery, materials, methods, human and the environment to reduce products defects.

Abstract

PT Kabelindo Murni Tbk. is a company involved in the industry of manufacturing electrical cable, telecommunication cable, and cable utilities. Nowadays, the company is implementing distribution system which is based on the partnership with the expedition company by using three kinds of transportations. The system is facing a problem where the transportation rental cost is high for each delivery to main distributors. This research proposes two new alternatives of distribution transportation system. The first alternative is to buy new batch of transportation for the company based on the currently rented transportation capacity. In the other hand, the second alternative is with route planning and rearrangement of delivery order of the current system. The use of company transportation is arranged with Saving Matrix, which is done with the goods weight and transportation volume. The proposed distribution system is done based on the minimum cost of both alternative systems. The result shows that the current transportation rental system has the lower cost compared to the first alternative with the total cost Rp 196.200.000,00. The cost difference between the first alternative of the current system with the second alternative is Rp 202.467.482,00. The chosen system is the second alternative, using the transportation rental service to deliver to four distributors in Jakarta, Bekasi, and Tangerang.
