Abstract

In this paper Rapid Particle Swarm Optimization (RPSO) algorithm is proposed to solve the optimal    reactive    power     dispatch Problem. The Rapid Particle swarm Optimization (RPSO) algorithm is obtained by merging PSO with Cauchy mutation. Basic idea is to introduce the Cauchy mutation into PSO such that it prevents PSO from trapping into a local optimum through stretched jumps made by the Cauchy mutation. In order to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm, it has been tested on IEEE 30 bus system and compared other standard algorithms. Results show’s that RPSO is more efficient in reducing the real power loss and voltage index also improved.

Abstract

In the present study, a six pulse inverter is triggered using conventional sequential and pulse width modulation (PWM) technique simultaneously for comparing their results. FACTS devices such as STATCOM are the most emerging areas in today’s power system. This STATCOM is a power electronic based converter circuit in which inverter circuit is fabricated for the purpose of voltage control and reactive power compensation through its current flow. A six pulse inverter is developed that can be generalized for developing any number of multiple of six pulse inverters by cascading them in parallel using transformers connection. Voltage source Inverter (VSI) is the most commonly used inverter that can be modeled for electrical system based studies. A methodology is presented to trigger the STATCOM inverter circuit using conventional and PWM techniques, and then the results are compared using MATLAB Simulink model

Abstract

Graphene is one of the most promising nanomaterial because of its unique combination of superb properties, which opens a way for its exploitation in a wide spectrum of applications ranging from electronics to optics, sensors, and bio devices. Inspired by recent work on Graphene of computing topological indices, here we compute new topological indices viz. Arithmetic-Geometric index (AG2 index), SK3 index and Sanskruti index of a molecular graph G and obtain the explicit formulae of these indices for Graphene.

Abstract

In this paper, an Enhanced Imperialist Competitive (EIC) Algorithm is proposed for solving reactive power problem. Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (ICA) which was recently introduced has shown its decent performance in optimization problems. This innovative optimization algorithm is inspired by socio-political progression of imperialistic competition in the real world. In the proposed EIC algorithm, the chaotic maps are used to adapt the angle of colonies movement towards imperialist’s position to augment the evading capability from a local optima trap. The ICA is candidly stuck into a local optimum when solving numerical optimization problems. To overcome this insufficiency, we use four different chaotic maps combined into ICA to augment the search ability. Proposed Enhanced Imperialist Competitive (EIC) algorithm has been tested on standard IEEE 30 bus test system and simulation results show clearly the decent performance of the proposed algorithm in reducing the real power loss.

Abstract

Collecting huge amount of data in long time acquisition systems like in environmental monitoring, there is a need to collect and save data over time for further use or analysis. A data logger is an electronic device that records data over time or in a relation to location either with a built-in instrument, sensor or via an external instruments and sensor. In this paper, a data logger system is designed to use as a stand-alone or computer based device. When used as a standalone system, all data acquired are saved in SD memory card, which must be copied and erased periodically depending on the memory size. When used as computer based device, all the data sent to the computer via the serial port and stored automatically in achieved files. The limit of those files size only restricted by the capacity of the disk. The data logger is designed using an Arduino UNO board and LabView software, and it has the flexibility to set it up for different user options. With this system, the user could be able to record and read back sensory data to or from existing files, or in automatically generated files and plot these readings in a graph. Also, the user have the ability to choose the periodic time at which a sample record in a file in term of seconds, minutes or hours. The system designed to monitor and record a single channel data, but it could be adapted to monitor more than one channel.

Abstract

This research paper is about developing a better type of controller, known as MPC (Model Predictive Control) for pasteurization process plant. MPC is an advanced control strategy that uses the internal dynamic model of the process and a history of past control moves and a combination of many different technologies to predict the future plant output.. The dynamics of the pasteurization process was estimated by using system identification from the experimental data. The quality of model structures like ARX, ARMAX, BJ and CT model structures was checked based on  best fit with validation data, residual analysis and stability analysis. Auto-regressive with exogenous input (ARX322) model was chosen as a model structure of the pasteurization process dynamics and fits about 79.75% with validation data. Finally MPC control strategies were designed using ARX322 model structure.

Abstract

Silicon wire waveguide technology becomes great issue in optical communication system. The high index contrast of the silicon wire waveguide induced the birefringence. It played important role in silicon wire waveguide loss since it caused polarization dependent loss (PDL), polarization mode dispersion (PMD) and wavelength shifting. Hence, suitable controlling birefringence in silicon wire waveguide becomes very important. The current birefringence controlling techniques by using cladding stress and geometrical variation in bulk silicon waveguide was presented. Unfortunately, it could not obtain zero birefringence when applied to silicon wire waveguide. The over-etching technique was employed in this paper to obtain zero birefringence. The tall silicon wire waveguide obtained minimum birefringence.

Abstract

Blur type identification is one of the most crucial step of image restoration. In case of blind restoration of such images, it is generally assumed that the blur type is known prior to restoration of such images. However, it is not practical in real applications. So, blur type identification is extremely desirable before application of blind restoration technique to restore a blurred image. An approach to categorize blur in three classes namely motion, defocus, and combined blur is presented in this paper. Curvelet transform based energy features are utilized as features of blur patterns and a neural network is designed for classification. The simulation results show preciseness of proposed approach.

Abstract

Big data analytics allows a vast amount of structured and unstructured data to be effectively processed so that correlations, hidden patterns, and other useful information can be mined from the data. Several open source big data analytic tools that can perform tasks such as dimensionality reduction, feature extraction, transformation, optimization, are now available. One interesting area where such tools can provide effective solutions is transportation. Big data analytics can be used to efficiently manage transport infrastructure assets such as roads, airports, bus stations or ports. In this paper an overview of two open source big data analytic tools is first provided followed by a simple demonstration of application of these tools on transport dataset.

Abstract

This paper introduces a nonlinear control of a wind turbine based on a Double Feed Induction Generator. The Rotor Side converter is controlled by using field oriented control and Backstepping strategy to enhance the dynamic stability response. The Grid Side converter is controlled by a sliding mode. These methods aim to increase dynamic system stability for variable wind speed. Hence, The Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) is studied in order to illustrate its behavior in case of severe disturbance, and its dynamic response in grid connected mode for variable speed wind operation. The model is presented and simulated under Matlab/ Simulink.
