Abstract

The solution of thermal diffusion equation computed numerically by finite element method is used to determine optimum conditions of laser irradiations in the solar cell fabrication. Structure discretization is analyzed in axisymmetric triangular ring elements. The program are codes in written using Fortran 77 language. The Crank-Nicolson algorithm and Fortran 77 IMSL library were used in solving stiffnen matrix equations of the structure. The convergence of the results are shown 50, 98, and 140 elements. The temperature distribution of at the center of laser beam in the all three layers of a-Si solar cells is also shown and superior compared with that of Kishi et al [19].

Abstract

The spatial distribution of the European earwig in the early of the free foraging phase were analysed using dispersion index and spatial autocorrelation index. The observation found that during investigation period, were dominated by third instar larvae. Horizontal trapping above the ground showed that the the distribution per trap was very aggregative with dispersion index varies from 16.64 to 33.89. Spatial index of autocorrelation varies from -0.65 to 3.71, which indicate that earwigs chose certain place in their movement during this period.

Abstract

The development of affinity adsorbent system for purification of protease produced by Bacillus sp. BAC-4 has been investigated. The research is initiated from preparation of non porous silica, aminopropyl silica matrix, and affinity adsorbent. In this research, the approximately spherical form of non porous silica with diameter of 1 – 15 μm and aminopropyl silica matrix has been synthesized. This matrices contains 65,7 μmol/g of amino group and show the similar FTIR spectrum to that of standard aminopropyl silica. Preparation result of affinity adsorbent shows that 10% n-butanol is the most applicable affinity ligand with 99,96% binding capacity to the matrix. The optimum activity of the purified protease with affinity adsorbent system is in the 0.05 N Tris HCl buffer pH 8.0 at 550C for 15 minutes with the degree of purity of 1248–fold to that in the crude extract.

Abstract

Hypothesis that the tectonic force release through earthquake will trigger eruption of near by volcano when its magma pocket is full of magma, is put forward. It is mechanically reasonable due to the fact that both magma and the pocket are inside the earth crust which suffers compression stress resulted from the pushing force of oceanic crust in the subduction zone. Observation is conducted at Mount Gamalama in the island of Ternate west of the Halmahera Island, North Molluca. It is expected to have strong pushing force condition. The result shows that the triggering phenomenon is present. The other important results are the understanding of process to produce repeated volcanic eruptions and the knowledge of eruption mechanism.

Abstract

We have determined the spherically-layered model for P-wave velocity structure and station corrections for seismographic stations in the Indonesian region and its surrounding. The P-wave velocity structure has been developed down to a depth of 700 km while the station corrections have been determined for 35 seismographic stations located in the study region. We inverted the P-wave travel-times data by using the so called "damped least-squares inversion method"1,7). The modeling space is divided into 15 homogeneously layers with the initial velocity model based on the modification from Jeffrey-Bullen6). We employed 13,115 P-wave travel-times data from 459 earthquakes occurring in the period of 1984 to 1988. The data were taken from the bulletin of International Seismological Center (ISC) London. We performed the inversion for 10 iterations. The solutions can be considered to have achieved convergence after the 6-th iteration. The average travel-time residuals were reduced from 0.40 sec to 0.08 sec. The obtained velocity structure model faster than the initial model of Jeffrey-Bullen. The obtained station corrections for seismographic stations in Sumatra and Java show negative values. In the Philippine Islands, Banda Sea, Northern Australia, and Malay Peninsula the obtained station corrections show positive values.

Abstract

Let Y and X be interval variables. Proportional reduction in variance (PRV) of Y given X is equal to the R2 or coefficient of determination of Y with respect to X. This phenomenon can be generalized to more than one explanatory variables. It describes the PRV from the marginal distribution to the conditional distribution of response Y. This paper deals with PRV as a primary tool for measuring nominal association. Several situations will be considered. It will be discussed its relationship with Goodman and Kruskal tau, proportional reduction in uncertainty (PRU) defined by Bui Quoc through Shannon entropy, canonical correlation through Bertier and Tenenhaus’s optimal coding, and also with RV coefficient.

Abstract

In this paper the solution of a singularly perturbed nonlinear ordinary differential equation which is obtained by using the asymptotic expansion method and a numerical method is analyzed in various values of the parameter of the equation. The numerical method which we use is Runge-Kutta-Feldbergh method of order 45, combined with the shooting method. Both solutions are verified using the first integral of the equation.

Abstract

We prove the regularity of the operator Ω∈−=∫Ωxdsxxu)()(||ln21)(ξξφξπ∂ using similar technique for proving Cauchy integral operator. If φ are continue on ∂Ω, we prove that u is uniformly Holder continue in Ω with Holder exponent α for every α ∈ (0,1). However, from the proof, if uL then u is in the same space as before.

Abstract

Polypyrrole (PPY) and Prussian blue (PB) are well known electrochromic materials having different ranges of electrochromicity and recycleability. In order to study the possibility of optimizing theirs properties, composites of PPY-PB have been synthesized by means of electrochemical process. The results of synthesis are characterized by cyclic voltammogram, UV-Visible spectroscopy and infrared measurements. The analysis of data indicates good electrochromic contrast of the composite film and significant enhancement of recycleability. Further enhancement of recycleability of PPY-PB composites could still be expected by optimization of PPY/PB composition in the composites.
