Abstract

ABSTRACT: The study was carried out in Sidomulyo Village, Jabung, Malang Regen-cy from April 6th to May 6th, 2013. The objective of the study was to evaluate the influ-ence of Kersen leaf (Muntingia calabura L) extract to reduce mastitis incidents. The materials used in this study were 15 Friesian Holstein crossbreed lactating dairy cows, chemical antiseptic, and Kersen leaf extract. The study used experiment Randomized Block Design with 3 treatments and 5 replications. The result shows that Kersen leaf extract was significantly (p>0.05) able to reduce mastitis incidents particularly 20% of Kersen leaf extract composition. The study suggests that Kersen leaf extract can be used as an effective substance in dipping solution for dairy cows Mastitis control program.Keywords: Kersen leaf extract, mastitis, teat dipping, dairy cows

Abstract

Testing of spermatozoa fertility in vivo is needed to find out the extent of the abilityof spermatozoa fertilization in the female reproductive tract. The fertility ability ofspermatozoa in fertilizing the ovum is indicated by the number of fertile eggs fromthe number of eggs incubated resulting from the mating with Artificial Insemination(AI). The aim of this research is to know the percentage of fertility of eggs from AIusing semen which has been stored cold for 8 hours on Ringe's diluent with theaddition of antioxidant glutathione. Collection semen with teaser female method isdone in Poultry Breeder Installation of Sekolah Tinggi Penyuluhan Pertanian (STPP)Malang. The 30 female chickens were divided into 3 groups of treatment P0: AIusing fresh semen with Ringer's diluent, P1: AI using cold cement with Ringer'sDiluent (8 hours duration storage) and P2: AI using cold semen with 0.5 mMaddition in Diluent Ringe's (8 hours duration storage). Experiment design usingComplete Randomized Design (RAL) and  nonparametric data analysis with chi-square.The observed variable was egg fertility calculated based on egg fertility percentage.The results showed that the dilution treatment had a significant effect (P <0,05) onfertility egg, with the best result indicated by P0 that is 76% fertility, followedby P2 with fertility 42% and P1 which showed the lowest fertility was 34%. IB withcold cement has not demonstrated a good percentage of fertility despite 0.05 mMglutathione added as an antioxidant. It is recommended that AI in domestic poultryusing fresh semen with Ringe's diluent, is done as soon as possible to obtain optimumfertility.

Abstract

The research was conducted from January to June 2018 at the animal market of Beringkit, Badung Regency, Bali. The objectives of the research were to study technical feasibility of Balinese Cattle breeding in Badung Regency, Bali, and the impact of Balinese cattle marketing toward the income of the breeders. The research is explorative research through a survey, which is designed as an explanatory research design. The method of research used a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. The research was conducted toward the breeders of Balinese cattle on some markets in Badung Regency with 50 respondents of the research who were selected as purposive sampling. Criteria of the respondents include breeders who raise the brood cow. Instruments or tools of the research used the closed and structured questionnaires, which are equipped with open questions. Results of the research showed that technical feasibility of Balinese cattle breeding in Badung Regency, Bali, is considered to be appropriate because the stocks, cattle barn, feeds, and workforce that are utilized for public animal husbandry operation are always managed by the breeders, and the breeders are highly responsible for their cattle. The impact of Balinese Cattle marketing toward the income of the breeders is significant and the tendency of the breeders to sell their cattle when in urgent conditions cause low income for them.

Abstract

The success of estrus detection ensure the correct time of insemination so the high conception rate can be resulted. This research was objected to design an electronic equipment as sensor transducer for measuring the change of circular pressure of vaginal wall of the cows. A sensor used was Load cell type M322. The sensor was connected to microcontroller and a display. The results showed that the applied sensor on a stainless steel transducer steak with a diameter of 2.5 cm and length of 40 cm measured a sensitive change of pressure attach it. This sensitivity was tested to measure the change of pressure of different dept of water i.e. 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 cm. Two equations was resulted from this measurement, while a linear regression was Y= -36.412+197.53X a quadratic equation was Y= 253.3+84.09X+5.09X2. The sensor was then applied in estrus beef cow, not estrus beef cow and estrus dairy cow for 10 days. The same pattern was observed in estrus of both beef and dairy cows: a high values were detected in the non estrus phase while during estrus phase the values were in basal. In contrast, anestrus cow showed high value during 10 days observation, and 5 min application of each. In conclusion, this designed estrus detector was possible to be developed toward application in the farmers after some modifications were created. (JIIPB 2010 Vol 20 No 1: 11-21). Abstract

The study was aimed to investigate the youth perception and interest on Madura cattle agribusiness. The respondents of this research were selected randomly from 100 youths aged 16-30 years. The method of the research was survey. The data were gathered from August to September 2014 in Waru sub district, Pamekasan regency. Primary data including perception, interests as well as internal and external factors were analyzed using descriptive analysis, chi square analysis  and rank spearman correlation analysis. Chi square analysis was used to determine the relationship between the internal and external factors of respondents to the interest on Madura cattle agribusiness. Spearman rank correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between perception and interest of respondents on Madura cattle agribusiness. The results showed that youth had a good perception toward Madura cattle agribusiness because it was supported by conducive environment, had a high economic value, good support from the government and increased prestige. The highest interest on Madura cattle agribusiness was found based on a business plan creation. The internal factors (education level, gender, jobs and marital status) had a positive association with youth interest on livestock farming activities. Their interest was also positively related to external factors such as neighbor’s jobs and information searching activities.   Keywords: economic value, education, government support

Abstract

Betaine is a methyl group donor that can increase protein synthesis since it has a similar role as methionine. The study was performed to determine the supplementation effect of betaine in the diet containing adequate methionine on growth performance and feed efficiency of female broilers. In total, 200 of day-old chicks of female broiler chickens were allotted to 4 treatments with 5 replicationsof 10 birds. This experiment was designed as completely randomized design. Control diet was formulated to contain adequate methionine (0.50% for starter and 0.38% for finisher period). The other dietary treatments were obtained by supplementing 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.3% betaine. The variables observed consisted of feed, protein and energy consumption, average daily weight gain, feed efficiency, protein and energy efficiency ratio. Supplementation of 0.1% betaine generated a higheraverage daily weight gain (P<0.05), but supplementation at higher levels (0.2 and 0.3%) had no effect on weight gain. However, betaine did not affect feed, energy and protein consumption, as well as feed efficiency and energy and protein efficiency ratio. Thus, betaine can be applied in the diet containing adequate methionine at the level of 0.1% to produce higherdaily weight gain without affecting feed efficiency. Supplementation of betaine at higher levels than 0.1% did not show positive effect on weight gain and feed efficiency in female broiler chickens.

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of cassava pulp fermented with Rhizopus oryzae on the total leucocyte and differential leucocyte and its influence on the health of broiler chickens. The study was conducted in July-September 2015. The material used was 275 DOC of broiler with average of initial weight 55 g. Ration ingredient used were corn, rice bran, soybean meal, fish meal, poultry meat meal and fermented cassava pulp. The experiment used a completely randomized design (CRD) comprised of 5 treatments and 5 replications. Treatment ration consist of T0 (control ration), T1 (8% cassava pulp without fermentation), T2 (8% cassava pulp fermented with Rhizopus oryzae), T3 (16% cassava pulp fermented with Rhizopus oryzae) and T4 (24% cassava pulp fermented with Rhizopus oryzae). The result of the study showed that there was no influence among treatments (P>0,05) of the use of cassava pulp fermented with Rhizopus oryzae in ration to total leucocyte and differential leucocycte. It is concluded that cassava pulp fermented with Rhizopus oryzae in ration is potential to substitute the use of corn in ration without compromising the health and amount of total leucocyte and differential leucocyte. Keywords: Rhizopus oryzae, leuycocyte, differential leucocyte, broiler

Abstract

To know the effect of cage roof materials and the height of cage to the physiology status and body weight gain of the experiment were done to 36 Local male rabbit at post weaning (6-8 weeks of age) with average initial weight of 630-1100g for three months in Field Laboratorium Sumber Sekar Dau Malang.  The treatment given was cage roof material (tile vs zinc roof) and the height of the cage (30, 80 or 130 cm).  The animals were caged individually in random.  The feed given was foliage (col leaves) (at 03.00 pm) and pollard (at 07.00 am).  The design used was Nested Design.  The variables measures were rectal temperature ( oC), the frequency of respiration (/minute), heartbeats (/minutes), total  feed consumption (g) and body weight gain (g).  The obtained data then analysed statistically using variance and covariance test, if there was significant effect then continued by Duncan test. There were no significant effect of the treatment to the physiolgical status of the animals, except fr the heartbeats.  There was no continue result between the increase of the height of the cage and the decrease of the heartbeat, except for the zinc roof.  In the tile roof, the body weight gain was lower for the higher height of the cage, except for the tile roof of 130 cm height of the cage. These treatment combination gave the highest total feed consumption and body weight gain.Based on the result, it can be concluded that the tile roof materials with the height of  the cage of 130 cm give good result, by improving total feed consumption, body weight gain and normal physiological status.   Keywords: physiology status, body weight gain, rabbit

Abstract

The purpose of this research were to describe: (1) the implementation of farmers group’s activities in increasing the production of beef cattle, (2) the success of farmers group’s activities in increasing the production of beef cattle and, (3) the success of the farmers group’s role in empowering the farmers. The method of this research was a descriptive with qualitative model. The subject was officers of Satwa Mulya and citizen of Brajan Village. The research data were collected by using the method of participation and observation, interview, and documentation. The researcher wasthe main instrument which assisted with guidelines for observation, interview, and documentation.Method in this research were used data display, data reduction, and conclusion drawing.The results showed that: (1) The existence of farmers groups can increase the farmers knowledge in managing the beef cattle business started from seed selection, feeding, maintenance and marketing. In addition, also be increased the motivation and solidarity of farmers within the group. (2) While the implementation of farmers group’s activities in increasing the beef cattle production is good enough which includes: awarding the concentrates weighing livestock from government, artificial insemination, supplementation and pregnancy checking. (3) Furthermore the success of the farmers group’s role in communitiesproductivity can be seen from the increasing prosperity of farmers in Brajan village.So, it can be concluded that existence of farmers group’s can increase the knowlegde of farmers especially about beef cattle production, their motivation and unity or farmers in its group. Keywords: farmers group, productivity, beef cattle
