Abstract

Study on transmission and spread of purifying ideas in 17th and 18th centuries focuses on the role of ulama, that Azyurmadi specifically stress on the   importance of Tasawuf and rationality. He opines the tasawuf is  one of the other  side of Islam. Shariah and Fiqh are on one side, while the second side is tasawuf. Islamization would be perfect if both sides are combined together; the fiqh and the  tasawuf. If mankind only stresses on one of them, let‟s say fiqh only, the plurality  of human life will be brought to the legalistic tendencies. Therefor. the mystical   understanding on religious teaching is required. That is why Azyumardi highly  appreciates zikir and alike that make mankind become closer to Allah.

Abstract

Hadits position as law postulation to a certain extent providesperplexities to those arguing by. It happens due the existence ofbodily contradiction (ta’arudh) among the hadits themselves.Mujtahids (Muslim Scholars) have not reached any agreement onwhat solution could be applied to reconcile the contradiction.However, the Mujtahids’ method in solving the contradiction canbe track through four steps. There are: Al Jam’u wa al-Taufik(talfiq), Nasakh, Tarjih and Tauqif. Author argues that althoughthe scholars have not agreed with those four steps, they have to beapplied in a raw. Means that one cannot surpass others. This hasto be applied to gain well understanding about a hadistcomprehensively.

Abstract

Universal spiritual teachings are still neglected by most Islamic scholars due to the  thought that the teachings do not have a great influence to Muslims. But in reality, these  teachings won the hearts of Muslims in many Islamic countries such as Indonesia, Turkey,  Pakistan and others. Therefore, this article attempts to describe this fact by focusing the  discussion on the teachings of Universal Sufism, as one of the universal spiritual teachings that  are increasingly getting attention of Muslims in particular and mankind in general. The  description also involves the assessments based on the Quran as the main guide of Muslims,  which is expected to establish a clear understanding of Muslims about the spiritual teachings  that are justified and not justified by the Islamic Shari'a.

Abstract

Shura is a concept that has equivalence with democracy.  Shura is identical for one model of Islamic democracy that has not been applied into the formal legal life. Nurcholish Madjid said that the Shura has been accepted by Muslims. Generally, Shura is equal, or near as democracy had teach by the Western. The scope of application of Shura concerned in world affairs only and not religious affairs. When The Prophet Muhammad life, he and his follower applied the Shura on every things except the God’s  commandment . But after the he died, the caliphs are using agency deliberation to interpret the implementation of the ommandments of God. The result of deliberation constitution is a consensusto implement it in according to the needs and circumstances.  The Shura decision making can be based on the majorities, minorities and experts or professionalizes.

Abstract

This paper focuses on the study of Islamic Political Thought of Nurcholish Madjid and M. Amien Rais about Islamic state in Indonesia. Nurcholish Madjid required secularization, as an effort and rationalization of religious desecration. In  this context, religion is not only understood as an integral dimension of the sacred (holy) with all its appliances. But there are many parts changed, because it is sociological. According to Nurcholish, secularization is the way that Muslims needed to be done, so that the public can distinguish between social phenomena and the phenomenon of transcendent revelation.

Abstract

The Twentieth century man's life is full of various problems. According tophilosophers, the source of this complexity is the way some thinks. Therefore,they are very concerned to see man‟s life through the scientific method carefully.They began to study language, meaning, and symbols. They also examine the emotions that exist in humans as well as the attitude of human life. Therefore, the study of Contemporary Western philosophy is related to contemporary issues that are resolved fundamental answer by philosophers. Period of contemporary philosophy is usually still refers to the period of the nineteenth century to the present. Contemporary philosophy is still continuing major issues in modern philosophy, but with a different perspective altogether. Issues that include metaphysics, epistemology, anthropology (humanism) and others. In addition, a growing issue in contemporary philosophy extends to issues of capitalism, alienation, environment, democratization, human rights, and so forth. Many thinkers of the twentieth century thought has its own characteristics, namely "decentralization" of man. Human subjects are no longer regarded as the center of reality, but replace "anthropocentrism", the decentralization of human language as well as the subject of special attention to the fact.

Abstract

According to Abou el Fadl, authoritative hermeneutics is the only approach that is able to address the current issues of Islamic law, which are still considered discriminative. Abou el Fadl proposes a theory using hermeneutic approach as the basis analysis in addressing these issues. For him, reinterpretation of Islamic law interpretations becomes so salient in order to avoid an attitude which what Abou el Fadl calls interpretations authority. Therefore, hermeneutics which Abou el Fadl develops is oriented toward the interpretation authority of a text by negotiating the text itself, the author and the readers, as well as considering the personalities of the interpreters (readers). By using such authority theory, Abou el Fadl tries to construct the notion of authority in Islamic discourse. Regarding the concept of Islamic authority in its construction as a form of bridging the will of God, Abou el Fadl pays attention to three things, namely; "competence" (authenticity ), "the determination of meaning", and "representative". These three issues, according to Abou el Fadl, play an important role in establishing the "authorities" in Islamic discourse.

Abstract

Abstract: The wave of information and communication appear to cause global clash  of civilization. This seriously challenges religion because morality lies as the basic  problem. Concerning this issue, Ushuluddin faculty, that produces religious scholars,  has a strategic position in responding to this situation. As an academic institution,  Ushuluddin faculty has to do self-reformulation and revitalization in order to respond  the global challenge. It does not only focus on producing scholars that are excellent in  understanding religious studies (substantial skill). But, it has also to equip them with  great skill on technicality, practicalities as well as relational skill. These expertise and  skills will give them authority to direct morality in this global civilization.  Abstrak: Adanya gelombang informasi dan komunikasi ternyata membawa dampak  benturan peradaban pada skala global. Pada keadaan demikian, agama mendapat  tantangan yang luar biasa berat karena inti persoalannya adalah pada moral. Dalam  konteks ini, peran Fakultas Ushuluddin (FU) sebagai pencetak ahli agama sebagai  bagian penting dalam institusi agama, mempunyai posisi yang strategis. Karenanya,  tuntutan yang harus segera dilakukan adalah bagaimana FU melakukan reformulasi  dan revitalisasi dalam dirinya untuk menjawab tantangan global tersebut. Melalui  penguasaan dan pemahaman agama yang baik dan tepat (substantial skill), yang  didukung kecakapan teknis (technical skill) tertentu dan kecakapan relasional  (relational skill), maka mereka akan memiliki wibawa moral untuk memberikan arah  moral dalam peradaban global.

Abstract

Thomas Kuhn describes that the science truth will be discovered many times  from one object, although the method used changed. Formulation of paradigm theory  sparks that the science truth (legitimated truth) is identical to teleology object, which is  based on detection that is known as final cause. The truth science is not continuous,  improvised, evolutioned, or cumulative. There is paradigm shift actually, which is known  as revolution. Shifting paradigm is equally understood as gestalt switch, which discovers  verification on all at once or not at all. Paradigm shift helps unfolding consciousness that  scientists as unable to discover truth in objectively established manners. Paradigm  designs the worldview’s frame or perspective to be more important, legitimate and  reasonable. This led the detection to revolution or be eliminated due to its experimental  ability in accommodating a new winnowing, which is discovered. Sustained paradigm  will influence normal science as long as anomaly does not exist. The criteria of new  paradigm are neater, more suitable, simpler, and more elegant.

Abstract

Allah did not create a soul in a perfect shape, unlike body which need time to be perfect. While soul will reach a perfect level through education, especially religious teachings that provide a guidance, counseling, leading and forming gradually or from one stage to the next stage. So that soul will grow stronger and well established to face any problems, by the end the soul becomes perfect, safe and secure. The human‟s soul has the potential of evil and goodness, where the badness will bring about a misery to one‟s life and a goodness thing will create the happiness in one‟s life. It‟s need an effort to remove and prevent of mental illness, such as takabbur, ria, These behaviors could be a barrier to go to the presence of God. According to al-Ghazali, one of the formulas to create a calm and serene soul is by rearranging a wide range of existing stations in Sufism as the essence of the kalam Ilahi. To reach a tranquility of life, according to alGhazali's, the people are always approaching Allah and remember Him along human‟s life.
