Abstract

After the fall of the New Order, ICMI as an organization of Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals established in the New Order era, which was originally close to the government party (Golkar), scattered to look for a more appropriate political channel. Diverse ideologies and backgrounds resulted in ICMI members establishing and joining different political parties. Although, there are still a number of other ICMI members remaining loyal to the Golkar party. However, the results of the 1999 elections disappointed a number of ICMI members who had joined in a number of these parties. The disappointment implies the birth of the "Central Axis" which is driven by Amien Rais. Therefore, it is true to say that ICMI in the New Order was very important because being a political vehicle turned into an 'association' organization which incidentally after the 1999 election encouraged the birth of the Central Axis.

The development of the interpretation of the Qur'an in Indonesia is strongly influenced by the development of intellectual dynamics in this region. The characteristics of the development of interpretations are very significantly influenced by the socio-historical changes and intellectual development of the Indonesian people. In this context there are four interpretive typologies which are also stages of the development of interpretations in Indonesia, namely: the first period of interpretation of the translation, in which the interpreters of the archipelago rely heavily on Middle Eastern interpreters as a reference and most works are explored from Middle Eastern commentators. Second, the modern period, where the interpretation that developed was the influence of modern developments in Islam. Third, the period of contextual interpretation, that is, interpretations are written on certain topics.

Abstract

In April 2013, the issue of greater inequalities and social exclusion reckoned to be the result of economic growth led the World Bank to set the new goal, to end extreme poverty and promote shared prosperity. Interestingly, the approach of the contemporary solution is largely in consonance with the maqasid or objectives of the Shari’ah. Islam is a universal religion and addresses the entire mankind, not the believers alone. It is, therefore, no surprise that people irrespective of faith do often think along the Islamic lines. The notion of social cohesion is often used with different meanings, however its constituent elements remain the same which includes social inclusion, social capital and social mobility. This study analyzed the impact of the social cohesion, by adopting a cross-country approach. Specifically, the study examined the impact of social cohesion to the poorest quintiles of the population by evaluating the relationship between the factors and the changes in the per capita income of the poor of the developed and developing countries. Panel regression was applied to examine the significance of the social cohesion towards the shared prosperity of the developed and developing countries. It is hoped that this study will serve as an effective mechanism for poverty eradication in the respective countries.

Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of analyzing problems related to efforts to enforce accountability on waqf management institutions in Batam City with quantitative descriptive methodology. The results of the data analysis showed that the level of understanding of nadzir on the importance of supervision to be carried out on waqf management institutions is at the medium level, which means it still has to be upgraded. This is evidenced by the fact that, in the city of Batam, none of the waqf management institutions has ever been supervised or audited. Many things must be done to overcome this problem, such as transparent and open reports, not only to the government and waqif but also to the public openly. Then, bookkeeping training, as well as the application of clear and strict rules regarding Nadzir's rights and obligations. It is hoped that accountability can be expected to emerge from the professionalism of managing waqf assets.
