Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sikap dan pemertahanan terhadap bahasa Indonesia pada siswa kelas X kelas internasional dan non-internasional di SMA Budi Mulia Dua. Sikap dan pemertahanan bahasa tersebut ditinjau dari tes menulis siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan gabungan antata pendekatan kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian berdasarkan kuesioner menunjukkan bahwa di kelas X GAC terdapat 9 siswa yang memiliki pemerta-hanan bahasa negatif dan kelas X Asia terdapat 2 siswa yang memiliki pemertahanan yang negatif. Berdasarkan hasil menulis, pada kelas GAC hanya terdapat 1 siswa yang memiliki pemertahanan negatif dan di kelas X Asia terdapat 2 siswa. The result of this research from questionnaire, X Asia there are 2 students who have negative language maintenance, and in Class X GAC, there are 9 students who have negative language maintenance. From writing performance in class X Asia there are 2 students who have negative language maintenance and in Class X GAC, there are 1 students. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kesalahan penggunaan bahasa Indonesia pada aspek ejaan dan sintaksis serta persepsi terhadap Indonesia dalam naskah mini project  mahasiswa Tionghoa. Jenis Penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 13 naskah mini project mahasiswa Tionghoa di Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah teknik analisis isi yang meliputi tahap (1) unitizing, (2) sampling, (3) recording/coding, (4) reducing data, (5) inferring, dan (6) narrating. Hasil penelitian, pertama menunjukkan terdapat kesalahan pada tataran ejaan meliputi (1) kesalahan pemakaian huruf sebanyak 1162 kesalahan, (2) kesalahan penulisan kata sebanyak 122 kesalahan, (3) kesalahan pemakaian tanda baca sebanyak 57, dan (4) kesalahan penulisan unsur serapan sebanyak 36. Total kesalahan ejaan adalah 1337 kesalahan atau 5,26%. Kedua, kesalahan pada tataran sintaksis, meliputi (1) kesalahan subjek sebanyak 103 kesalahan, (2) kesalahan predikat sebanyak 17 kesalahan, (3) kesalahan objek sebanyak 8 kesalahan, (4) kesalahan keterangan sebanyak 1 kesalahan, dan kesalahan pelengkap sebanyak 4 kesalahan. Total kesalahan sintaksis adalah 133 kesalahan atau 45,47%. Ketiga, persepsi mahasiswa Tionghoa terhadap Indonesia meliputi 10 hal, tiga hal yang dominan yaitu (1) stereotip masyarakat Tionghoa terhadap Indonesia, (2) mispersepsi terhadap budaya Indonesia, (3) kebijakan pemerintah Indonesia yang tidak konsisten di berbagai bidang seperti ekonomi, sosial, politik, dan pendidikan. The spelling mistakes, syntax, and perception to indonesia manuscript of Chinese mini project AbstractThis study aimned to describe the mistakes of Indonesian language used in the spelling, syntax and perception to Indonesian manuscript of Chinese Mini Project students. This study applied the descriptive qualitative. The research subject was 13 manuscripts of Chinese mini project students at Art and Language Faculty of Yogyakarta State University. The data was collected by the documentation technique. The data analysis technique was content analysis technique which were (1) unitizing, (2) sampling, (3) recording/coding, (4) reducing data, (5) inferring, and (6) narrating. The results of the research were described as follows. First, there were some mistakes in the spelling, (1) including 1162 mistakes of letter use, (2) 122 writing mistakes, (3) mistakes of punctuation use, and (4) 36 applied mistakes. The sum of spelling mistakes were 1337 or 5.26% mistakes. Second, the mistakes of syntax were described as follows. (1) There were 103subject mistakes, (2) 17 verb mistakes, (3) 8 object mistakes, (4) 1 note mistake and there were 4 complement mistakes. The sum of syntax mistakes were 133 or 45.47% mistakes. Third, Chinese students’ perception to Indonesia was described as follows: 10 perception, three dominant of which were (1) Chinese stereotype to Indonesia, (2) misperception to Indonesian culture, (3) the unstable policy of Indonesian government in the economic, social, politic and education fields.

Abstract

This study aimed at: (1) discovering the textbooks quality based on the criteria from some ELT experts and Pusat Perbukuan, and (2) identifying the strengths and weaknesses of students’ textbooks entitled When English Rings a Bell and Bright for Grade VIII. The data were collected using checklists which were distributed to two English teachers and the researcher. The scores then were accumulated to find the average and after that the final score was rated using the category from Pusat Perbukuan and ELT experts. The results showed that When English Rings a Bell has fulfilled the criteria of a fair textbook (78.6%). The book has some strengths and weaknesses, such as providing materials covering the local culture, lacking some retention, and the like. Meanwhile, Bright has fulfilled the criteria of a good textbook (87.2%) with some strengths and weaknesses, such as providing materials containing target culture, lacking materials containing local culture.

Abstract

The present study was aimed at describing the translation techniques used by the translator in the books of Banal Aesthetics Critical Spiritualism written by Erik Prasetya Ayu Utami. Descriptive qualitative approach was employed through collecting the data related to the concerned and researched problems. The theory of translation technique suggested by Molina and Albir became the reference to classify the translation techniques used in the translation of the books of Banal Aesthetics Critical Spiritualism. Document analysis and literature review were employed to collect the data. The analysis results indicated that there were 15 types of translation techniques used from 18 ones as what is suggested by Molina and Albir. The five most widely used techniques of translation techniques in the books of Banal Aesthetics Critical Spiritualism were: literal translation (33, 46%), modulation (14.96%), reduction (14.56%), established equivalent (11.02%), and borrowing (9.84%). Meanwhile, three translation techniques that were not used are: calque, substitution, and variation.

Abstract

The research was conducted in order to describe the types and factors of code-switching and code-mixing in the learning process. The research was a descriptive qualitative investigation using the case study method. The aim was to analyze the types and factors that caused code-switching and code-mixing. Then, the research subjects were three English teachers who taught Grade XI. In gathering the data, there were five classes that should be observed and the necessary data were gathered through recording technique. In the meantime, for validating the results of the analysis an FGD (Focus Group Discussion) should be held. The FGD was conducted in order to identify the answers to the research questions. Next, the results of the study were as follows. First, the types of code-switching were (a) intersentential code-switching, (b) intrasentential code-switching, and (c) tag-switching. On the other hand, the types of code-mixing were (a) alternation code-mixing, (b) insertion code-mixing, and (c) congruent lexicalization. Second, the factors that caused the use of code-switching in the English learning process were text quotation, clarification, and teacher’s instruction. On the other hand, the factors that caused the use of code-mixing were speech habits such as the first language and the second language effects, adversity of finding equivalent words, and people’s impression of the present trends.

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to describe the types of translation methods, to describe the types of translation procedures, to describe the changes in terms of added and reduced information, and to describe the types of cultural features found in The Land of Five Towers, compared to that of the original novel, Negeri Lima Menara. This research was a qualitative research. This qualitative research applied content analysis to analyse the data. The results of the research were as follows. (1) There were two translation methods found in this research, Semantic Method and Communicative Method. Semantic Method was proven to be the more dominant. (2) There were five translation procedures found: transposition, modulation, adaptation, contextual equivalence, and noted equivalence. Yet, the most prominent procedure applied was transposition. (3) Added information was made on: cultural expressions, names of places, and predicate of the sentences. (4) Reduced information was made on: names of Islamic scholars, arabic expressions, Indonesian expressions, etc. (5) There were five kinds of cultural features found, they were: ecology; material culture or artefacts; social culture; organisations, customs, activities, procedures, and concepts; and gestures and habits.

Abstract

Project based learning (PBL) is an instructional approach that focuses on student centre learning, learning process, and students’ autonomy. This study was conducted at International Class Program in one of universities in Salatiga. Furthermore, this study explained the teaching strategies by using project based learning in English drama class. The researcher used a case study as the design and collected the data by using interview and observation. The participants of this study were an English drama lecturer and 20 students of International Class Program (ICP). The findings indicate that ICP students dominated the class especially to improve their speaking skill and the lecturer provided new learning atmosphere in teaching English by giving some activities which contains communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity or 4Cs skills.

Abstract

This research aims to: (1) describe the language attitudes of undergraduate students of English Education Department of Surakarta Muhamamadiyah University toward English language in terms of their behavioural, cognitive, and affective aspects; and (2) investigate the differences in language attitudes of undergraduate students towards English across gender and length of study at English education department of Surakarta Muhammadiyah University. This research employed a mixed method research design to collect, analyse and to mix both quantitative and qualitative data in a single study. Researcher used theory in a quantitative study to provide an explanation about the relationship among variables in the study. Thus, it is essential to have grounding in the qualitative study. The results of the study are as follows. The undergraduate students have different language attitudes, in terms of cognitive, behavioural, and affective aspects of language attitudes towards English. There is a statistic difference in the undergraduate students’ language attitudes towards English across gender. The attitudes of male undergraduate students towards English are higher than that of female ones indicating more positive attitudes towards English. It means that there is a rejection of the null hypothesis, because there is a significant difference between male and female undergraduate students’ attitudes towards English. There is a difference among the three groups in terms of length of English study. The freshman group showed slightly higher language attitudes compared with those of the other two groups.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan alih kode dan campur kode yang digunakan oleh penutur di lingkungan SMK di Kota Medan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah bahasa-bahasa yang digunakan oleh guru dan siswa pada saat pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia. Objek dalam penelitian ini adalah tuturan penggunaan alih kode dan campur kode yang digunakan dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia. Metode yang digunakan dalam mengumpulkan data adalah teknik pengamatan, teknik wawancara dan teknik rekam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa alih kode dan campur kode yang terjadi ialah bahasa Inggris,bahasa Batak, dan bahasa Indonesia. Jenis alih kode yang ditemukan adalah bahasa Indonesia ke bahasa Batak. Jenis campur kode yang ditemukan adalah campur kode ke dalam dan campur kode keluar  dengan menggunakan  bahasa Indonesia,bahasa Inggris, dan bahasa Batak dengan bentuk kata, kelompok kata, kata ulang, ungkapan dan klausa.Code Switching and Code Mixing on the Speech of Education Environment AbstractThe research aims to describe code switching and code mixing that are used by speaker in vacation high school at Medan. This research is a qualitative descriptive. The subject of this research is languages used by teacher and students in learning Indonesian. The object of this research is code switching and code mixing used on learning Indonesian.The method used to collecting the data are observational echniques, interview techniques and recording techniques. The result shows that languages undergoing code switching and code mixing are English, Bataknese and indnesian. The type of code switching found is Bataknese languages to Indonesian languages.furthermor, the type of code mixing found is inner code-mixing and outer code -mixing by using Indonesian language, English and Bataknese with the form of the word, group of words, repetition of word, expression and clause.
