Abstract

Development of a sustainable city is a complex process with interactions of numerous aspects such as economic, environment, and social in urban living. Architecture is a major part in creating identity or character of the city and influencing quality of life of city community. In the context of architecture and urban design, sustainable architecture can be achieved if cultural aspects and ecological aspects are synergized as two connected entities. The study aims to identify and to analyse the application of Malay traditional architecture elements in contemporary buildings design in Pekanbaru. The assessment is based on two variables which are cultural aspect that shows application of Malay traditional architecture character as regional identity and ecological aspect that reflects application of Malay traditional architecture elements to respond the climatic condition. This research use qualitative methodology to analyse form and character of the buildings in term of application of Malay traditional architecture elements, and quantitative methodology is used with descriptive analysis to analyse the level of application of Malay traditional architecture elements in different categories and analysis. The research identifies that majority of contemporary building design use Malay traditional architecture elements improperly according to the philosophy of Malay traditional culture. The application of Malay traditional architecture character tends to show regional identity in the building design compared to respond ecological considerations. This study also identifies the different result between government buildings and private buildings in the application of Malay traditional architecture elements. The findings indicate the inconsistency of government policy enforcement in building permission to preserve the identity of Malay culture for the improvement of quality of life in Pekanbaru. Abstract

The review was conducted to identify the concept of green architecture in the area of settlement on Watershed (DAS) Brantas Malang as informal settlements. Using the Theory of Ekistics - Doxiadis, acquisition search results of initial study settlements forming elements such as: a) Nature: rivers, topography, green open space, building orientation, and building density; b) Shells: housing / residential and public facilities; and c) Networks: drainage system, toilets, utility networks. Parameters used green architecture concept based on the concept of green architecture for residential and Greenship Rating Tools For Building Built Version 1.0.O. The natural environment have 2 parameters with a maximum value of 4; the protection element have 2 parameters with a maximum value of 2, and the network element have 4 parameters with a maximum value of 10. Assessment parameters on the protection element reaches a maximum value of 1.5 from 2 or 75% due to the utilization of the potential of the river as a public facility - Recreational fishing is also using the building with natural materials and shaped shelter is open. While actual network elements is the dominant element in this region does not reach the maximum value has not been used optimally due to the natural potential, especially rivers, to improve environmental quality. While elements of the natural environment to obtain the smallest value due to the relatively high density of buildings and the neighborhood was developed without planning.Keywords: concept of green architecture, Brantas Watershed Settlement, Malang

Abstract

Kota Lama Station and Pasar Turi Station built in almost the same period in the early 20th century. The second station was built in the Dutch colonial administration. Both have the same function, namely as a station platform, although it has a different landscape. Wood materials chosen because the wood is readily available resources at the time and is a strong material and commonly used as a building structure. At Pasar Turi Station and the Kota Lama Station using the best wood material, in the form of teak wood with high quality, so that the building can still survive until today. Wood material availability at the time it was still very easy to obtain and are of good quality, in contrast to today, where the wood is a building material that was expensive because its resources are already not as much as before. With the approach of observation and research literature is expected to produce an overview of how the system structure of wood in buildings of Old Town Railway Station can work well and are able to survive until today.Keywords: wood structure, station, wood connection

Abstract

The Surrounding of UB campus are an area affected directly or indirectly by the development of UB. The developments of the campus will be more or less influence to the spatial development of this area. Conversely, the dynamics that occur in this area will be an important input in the development of the upcoming campus. From this point, the purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics and spatial surrounding area of UB campus as patterns of land use that fit by the character. By studying and understanding the existing conditions, the results are expected to be used as one of the "database" or even "input" in determining the direction of development of the UB campus. That will create a harmonious environment and mutual support between the UB campus and the surrounding. To achieve these objectives, this study used a qualitative descriptive method. Observations and studies carried out on spot-spot patterns of land use in the area surrounding the campus, a block of residential, open space, other infrastructure spread over several areas around campus UB (UB). Thus, gain characteristics (structure, shape and space) and the spatial pattern of the area of study materials to explain the link with the development of the UB campus layout.Keywords: character, layout, campus.

Abstract

One of the construction systems and structures to be learned by a designer or architect is the construction and long-span structures. Application of long-span structures using cable as the main buffer in Indonesia is considered late whereas in some developed countries have been well developed. The main factors which may be considered the cause of this case is the lack of material knowledge which is synthetic rope. Synthetic rope is considered as capable as steel cable on a small scale. This research is conducted for public and academics to know how far is the strength of synthetic rope for modeling compared to steel cable. The method used is an experimental method of empirical testing by the test material on the tools that have been provided. Additionally, content analysis method in literature source and previous research is also used to get the data needed. Experiments conducted did not show the detailed measurement accuracy but with a certain value limit that can be seen by the eyes and senses.Keywords: Strength of materials, synthetic rope

Abstract

Transportation has been recognized as one of the indicators of this sector was instrumental in the development of the city . However , the development of transport seems to have the impact on the environment in the spatial and temporal large of coverage ( Rini , 2005) . The impact of high transport movements will contribute to the use of vehicle air pollution , thermal energy ( temperature ) and noise ( Soedomo , 1999). In Indonesia , stations , airports , public transport infrastructure and other terminals , has a noise level of up to 70 dB ( SK.MLH 24/11 , 1996) . The new urban design by Landscape Infrastructure is one of the strategies that extend the performance parameters of a landscape that is designed for high-performance multi - system function , including those originally thought to be derived from the traditional system infrastructure. Thinking in terms of Landscape Infrastructure adds several advantages to traditional infrastructure : the beauty of the city and re-vegetation/forestation , water and energy conservation ; restoration of natural systems , storm water management , agriculture, energy , expansion of wildlife habitat ; favored the use of pedestrians , and expanded parks and open space areas built ignored by the existing urban infrastructure ( Aquino , 2011) . Abstract

Our ancestors were poetic in architecture. This study was aimed at studying the ancient poets ancestral spirits against traditional Buton malige houses. This research used architectural criticism method. The model of interpretive criticism with variant advocatory criticism is used in architectural criticism model. This study concluded that the ancestors of the Buton people were poetic in making the traditional Buton malige house. The ancestral spirit of the Buton people against the malige building takes place in the talk of the macro cosmos-cosmic cosmos and the principles of Islamic teachings of Tasawuf transformed into talks of floor plans, looks, and pieces.

Abstract

Rapid urbanization and the concern for climate change have led to a growing trend to bring nature into the cities. Due to artificial urbanization, urban heat islands have become a serious problem. Greenery is expected to be an effective countermeasure, and much research is available regarding green roofs, green walls, street trees and parks. The intent of this paper is to present a synthesis of the literature review on the design and technology for cooling of building and surroundings by using vertical greenery system. Abstract

Main climatic thermal problems in urban park in hot humid tropic area are how to minimize high solar radiation and to optimize the wind. Trees have potentials in ameliorating urban park microclimate. Trees configuration is one of determining factors to get benefit of vegetation potential in hot humid urban park.Microclimate simulation of 3 (three) different tree configurations in selected urban park model is carried out with three-dimensional numerical model, ENVI-Met V.3.1 which simulates the microclimatic changes within urban environments in a high spatial and temporal resolution. The simulation results show that an east – west orientation tree line configuration model has a higher temperature reduction compared with the base case model.Keywords: Urban park, hot humid tropic, tree configuration model
