Abstract

Multi-dimensional crisis at the end 1997 has brought a very strong impact to social and economic aspects of community, resulting in fast increase in the number of unemployment and poor people as well as social structure damage that hamper development pace of the Republic of Indonesia. The aforesaid condition has made us aware of the importance of having economy which is based on community as the power. The community empowerment program is required as the follow-up action against the above mentioned impact.Implementation of a program called “P2MPD” (Regional Government Administration and Community Empowerment Project) in Regency of Tuban has indicated critical points due to the differences of interest, so as to decrease the level of participation of the community. It is for this reason that this research was carried out with the intention to find out variables and factors affecting level of community’s participation as well as the factors that need to be improved in implementing the P2MPD program in Regency of TubanFrom the output analysis, it was found that the most dominant factor influencing level of participation of community in executing the P2MPD project in Regency of Tuban are democracy, transparency, security and the conducive social condition of community and the factors that require high improvement efforts are the competitors and facility factors

Abstract

XYZ Hotel is a three stars hotel, which currently faces a problem with declining occupancy room and growth of total guest. These will become worse, if XYZ Hotel can not provide the best service as guest expectation. The ability of employee to provide service is influenced by employee’s satisfaction to their work scope which consists of character ambiguity, character conflict, competency conformity to employee’s work, technology conformity to employee’s work, control perception, control system and team work. On the other side, customer satisfaction is also influenced by service quality variables, such as tangible, reliability, responsibility, assurance and empathy.This research was done by distributing questionnaire using SERVQUAL Method (Parasuraman, et al. 1990), and only measure gap 3 and 5, using Likert scale. The result showed that factor which influenced employees satisfaction was control system. And the most important factor that influences customer satisfaction was assurance. Both of these important factor had to be a first improvement priority for management to reach customer satisfaction. Finally, based on this research, we learned that there was no significant correlation between employee and customer satisfaction in the XYZ Hotel.

Abstract

Business environment is pushing a fertilizer distribution company, which is currently concentrating in Java, to expand their market to another area in Indonesia. Kalimantan is one of the target areas, and several provinces in Kalimantan are then chosen to be potential areas to be reached.To accommodate this need, it is necessary that an extensive distribution networks, involving ports, depots, warehouses, ships, and various land transportations, which is capable to fulfill the demand of each region with minimum cost, be considered. Optimization technique using Mixed Integer Programming is applied. The purpose of this optimization is to minimize transportation cost as well as other costs for building depots and warehouses, with a due consideration of technological and economical constraints.One of the most important data required for this optimization is the prediction of demand for each region. Neural Network is used for this purpose. Using some parameters identified as factors affecting fertilizer consumption in several areas in Java, demand forecasting of fertilizer for some areas in Kalimantan could be well predicted.By applying demand prediction excerpted from the output of Neural Network and optimization using Mixed Integer Programming, an optimal distribution system in Kalimantan could be procured. The result of the optimization will specify which ports, depots and warehouses, that should be built, as well as ships and land transportations that should be used, which accordingly will guarantee an optimal distribution system.

Abstract

In today’s business environment, information technology plays an important role in supporting firms to achieve their business objectives including marketing management. The provision of accurate data in a timely manner is important to support planning and monitoring marketing performance. Planning a structured and integrated marketing plan requires involvement from various divisions including Sales, Tariff, Service, Legal, Finance, Information Systems, Billing and Product Owner. In order to measure marketing performance following the commencement of a program, demonstration of marketing performance indicators quickly and accurately is necessary. This study aims to develop an information system to support the marketing program planning process and show marketing performances indicators online.The scope of information systems developed is PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Fixed Wireless Division. The users of the information systems are divisions or units related to marketing management. Development stage starts with a survey and establishment of user requirement until design stage. Methods used in this study are interviews, survey, literature, review and focus group discussion followed by data requirement analysis and system design.The benefits of the system developed in this study are increasing efficiency and effectiveness of program planning and marketing performance measure, as well as increasing management control of marketing performance.Results obtained from this study are the establishment of user requirements in program planning process and the development of a feasible information system from technical, operational and economic point of views. Further investigation and design in a national scope are required to establish a national system, followed by implementation, testing and deployment to apply the information system.

Abstract

Recently, environmental technologies are widely available to prevent pollution from industrial activities. The term Best Available Techniques (BAT) refers to technologies that can be used to overcome certain environmental problems. The selection of the right technology for pollution prevention involves a complicated process. Not only technical and economic aspects, but also environmental aspect should be considered as well. However, environmental aspect is difficult to quantify due to uncertainty in the real value of the environment. The aim of this study is to develop a framework for decision making process that incorporates the three aspects: technical, environmental, and economic in selecting the best technology which is relevant to a certain textile industry. One multi criteria decision analysis tool, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), is used in this study to help decision maker in a textile industry to compare and rank three alternative technologies: substitution of mineral oil, pre-wetting process and compact spinning technology. Substitution is the most feasible option having benefit/cost (B/C) ratio 2.154, followed by compact spinning with B/C ratio 0.879. The result shows that AHP is capable to quantify both qualitative and quantitative criteria to aid decision maker in comparing several options and determining the best option.

Abstract

The adverse climate of a business competition, especially in the realm of production of household commodities, enforces a business enterprise to apply a strategic decision about mixing ingredient and its inventory effectively. This decision entails the appropriate selection of ingredient within a minimum attainable cost.Optimization of ingredient selection and inventory was carried out in a detergent industry. Optimization was conducted employing the technique of Linear Programming with the incorporation of several relevant constraints. The optimization was focused on the optimal profit, taking account specifically the cost of material handling; this would necessitate the choice of suitable ingredients for manufacture of a certain product, and a decision about where these ingredients would be inventoried.In this study, the optimization was proven capable to increase the profit in a significant figure. The results of the optimization determined specifically the selection of the ingredients for each product according to the quality specified, and at the same time determined the allotment of the ingredients in the specified inventory.

Abstract

In early 2004, PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia (PT CPI) booked US$ 100 millions for its material inventory level. As one of the company’s Key Performance Indicators (KPI), management recommended to reduce this material inventory level to fit with the current condition of the company. By the end of 2004, company recorded US$ 82 millions for its material inventory level while the target was US$ 75 millions. In order to help company to achieve this target, there is a need to provide an additional tool to support the decision making process related to inventory management.This research was focused on the design and implementation of analysis tool (i.e. a prototype of data warehouse for material activity) to support inventory management system at PT CPI. The strategy used in this research was done effectively and efficiently without sacrificing customer’s satisfaction due to the limitation of the resources (i.e. manpower and cost) provided by the company. In the design phase, a dimensional modelling was employed by optimizing some features in SQL Server 2000 to complement the current needs on query and reporting information for inventory analysis that can not be accommodated by the existing JDE Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). A data cube was created using the star-schema dimensional modelling. This cube enables user to directly perform the slice and dice, as well as drill-down operation easily. In addition, users can also access the cube from Microsoft Excel and web using the Pivot Table Services. The prototype that has been successfully developed in this research has been successfully tested using material activity data during the year 2004 and during a few months in year 2005.In conclusion, the methodology adopted in this research is particularly effective and efficient for developing a data warehouse that uses SQL Server 2000 as a database management system. The prototype developed in this research can be used as a supporting tool for decision making process, in this regard, users will be able to manage material inventory in a better and faster way, which will in turn improve the company’s performance.

Abstract

This paper describe the development of an effective model in managing resistance to cultural change. The starting point of the description is the corporate culture, mainly its value and assumptions. It, then, shows the forms and manifestations of change manifestations and possible causes of the resistance. This paper addresses the change resistance issues by introducing two opposing views and their limitations. The first view, the cause-driven model, argues that the strategies to overcome resistance depend on its causes. The main limitation of this model is that it fails to acknowledge the multidimensional aspects of change. On other hand, the systematic view asserts that resistance is unchangeable and that the best method is to work with resistance rather than to overcome or beat the resistance. However, this model tend to ignore the individual aspects of resistance. I would argue that the best model should be the combination of both models. The suggested model consists of six steps: building a shared mission, communicating the mission-based change agenda, encouraging the employees’ participation, building trust through dialogue, and institutionalising the cultural change. However, this model has three major limitations. Firstly, the implementation of the model should be integrated with the other change programs. Another limitation relates to the assumptions of this model (time availability, information needed, and resistance power). The last limitation is that this model undermines the stress and high tension.

Abstract

Three components of marketing strategies are segmentation, targeting, and positioning. Increasingly tight market competition compels a more accurate formulation of the three components of marketing strategy. The knowledge of consumer’s preferences and consumer’s perception about a product’s main competitors will help the formulation of marketing strategy. The use of more quantitative statistic methods i.e. cluster analysis and crosstab analysis are expected to give more exact results in order to give more accurate steps of marketing strategy formulation.

Abstract

As a company which has always collaborate with suppliers, JOB Pertamina-PetroChina is well aware of the importance of suppliers’ role to support the company business process, which places them as a major force that need to be considered to achieve competitive advantages. Supplier satisfaction and loyalty supported by supplier performance evaluation is several important elements to support company’s business existence.In order to keep good relationship with suppliers, company faces several problems. Currently, there is no system available to manage suppliers’ database and its procurement. The purpose of this thesis is to design a Supplier Relationship Management for JOB P-PEJ followed by cost-benefit analysis. This new system is expected to help company to manage their supplier better in the future.The outcome expected from this study is a design of Supplier Relationship Management for JOB P-PEJ that is capable to determine most profitable supplier, to identify suppliers, and to manage complaints. Cost-benefit analysis will be done to evaluate whether the new system is useful to support Material and Logistic functions in managing suppliers.
