Abstract

This study aims at finding out to what extent DASH method improves students’ reading comprehension and how good the students’ improvement regarding their reading comprehension after taught through DASH method. This study was conducted at SMAN 1 Tanete Rilau, Barru Regency. The study used pre-experimental design involving only one class to observe, out of two hundred-eighty population of eleventh-grade students of IPA-II classes at SMAN-1 Tanete Rilau in academic year 2014/2015. The technique sampling was cluster random sampling. The instruments of collecting data used in this study were multiple choice and essay which were used to measure the students’ comprehension in reading. Based on the data collected from the students showed that the post-test value is higher than pre-test table, so the null hypothesis is rejected. It means there is an influence of “DASH” (Duplicated Answer Sheets) method on student reading ability. So the students have responsibility and feel enjoy the learning process. It means that can “DASH” (Duplicated Answer Sheets) method be used as one of the alternatives to teach reading. Further study is suggested to conduct the investigation of other teaching method or strategy that can be applied by the teacher to encourage their student in reading comprehension. Keywords: DASH Method, Reading Comprehension

The data showed students’ mean score of accuracy in speaking skill and literal comprehension in reading skill improved after teaching by using Information Gap Activities. In experimental class, the students’ accuracy of pretest was 1.55 and improved to be 3.06 in posttest, students’ literal comprehension of protest was 0.82 and posttest was 3.21. In control class, the students’ accuracy was 1.90 for pretest and 2.32 for posttest; students’ literal comprehension was 1.63 for pretest 2.27.  These findings indicate that the mean score of pre-test was greater than pretest for that both class. However, the students’ mean score in experimental was greater than control class where accuracy (3.062.37) and literal comprehension (3.212.27). Abstract

This paper study explains about some fundamental theories of Critical Discourse Analysis such as focus on dominance relations by elite groups and institutions as they are being ordained and the overt sociopolitical stance of discourse analysis. Context social structure: Situations of discursive interaction are similarly part or constitutive of social structure; for example, a press conference may be a typical repetition of organizations and media institutions. That is, “local” and more “global” contexts are closely related, and both exercise constraints on discourse. Personal and social cognition: Language users as social actors have both personal and social cognition: personal memories, knowledge and opinions, as well as those shared with members of the group or culture as a whole. Both types of cognition influence interaction 006 and discourse of individual members, whereas shared “social representations” govern the collective actions of a group.
