Abstract

Quadratic function is one of the important topic in mathematics. The purpose of this study is to describe the mistakes made by students when drawing a quadratic function graph. In this research, the focus of the problem is what type of mistakes made by students in drawing a graph of quadratic functions. The form of error here referred to an error in doing the exercise of drawing quadratic function graph in learning with the PBL model using a true or false strategy assisted by GeoGebra application. The conclusion of this research states that the error in drawing quadratic function graph is dominated by procedural errors. PBL model with true or false strategy with the help of GeoGebra application can be an alternative learning to overcome students' mistakes in drawing quadratic function graphs

Abstract

This research aimed to determine whether the reciprocal teaching model affects the ability of students’ mathematical representation or not. The research design used was post test only control design. Sampling used cluster random sampling by taking two classes namely, class VII B as the experimental class and class VII A as the control class. The location of the research was SMP Negeri 6 Purwokerto. As for obtaining data used post test the ability of mathematical representation, the post test question in the form of description. Post test result of mathematical representation ability showed experiment calss average was 65.23, while control class equal to 59.31. Also it obtained the score of hypothesis testing using independent sample t-test as follows, Sig. = 0.051/2 = 0.0255 with 0.05 which means Sig < 0.05 or 0 H is rejected. It can be concluded that the reciprocal teaching model affecs the ability of mathematical representation. Keyword: Mathematical Representation Ability, Reciprocal Teaching.

Abstract

Critical thinking is one of the skills students must have in mathematics learning so that students can make the right decisions when solving mathematical problems. This study aims to analyze the effects of the POGIL on students’ mathematical critical thinking skills. This research is an quasy experimental study, with a post test only control design research design. The population in this study were all students of grade VIII SMP N 2 Kemangkon in the academic year of 2018/2019. The sampling was done by cluster random sampling techniques and it obtained two sample classes namely class VIII C as an experimental class using learning with the POGIL model and class VIII B as control class using conventional learning models. The instrument used in this study was post-test mathematical critical thinking skill. Based on the result of hypothesis testing using independent sample t-test with a 95% confidence level, it shows that POGIL has an effect on students’ mathematical critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This research was aimed at defining the effect of Realistic Mathematic Education (RME) on students’ mathematical literacy ability and disposition. This research applied the Posttest-Only Control Design. The population was all grade VII students of SMP Negeri 4 Randudongkal. The Cluster Random Sampling was used in this research and it gained class VII B as the experiment group and class VII E as the controlled group. The data on students’ Mathematical literacy ability were collected through the post-test, while the data of students’ mathematical disposition were collected through questionnaires. The research hypothesis was comparative with the right-side test. The data were analyzed using the Mann Whitney test. With the significant value of 5%, it was revealed that students’ Mathematical literacy ability and disposition attending the learning process using RME were better than those who were not. It could be concluded that the RME learning method had a significant and positive effect on the students' mathematical literacy ability and disposition.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik media pembelajaran berbasis komputerbagi siswa SMP sebagai hasil pengembangan berdasarkan kajian teori, pendapat atau penilaian pakar, dan pendapat atau penilaian calon pengguna, yaitu guru dan siswa. Dalam mengembangkan media pembelajaran ini peneliti mengacu pada model pengembangan DDD-E yang meliputi empat tahap yaitu decide (penentuan), design(desain), development (pengembangan),danevaluate (evaluasi).Subjek penelitian adalah empat guru matematika SMP di Yogyakarta dan 35 siswa kelas IX di SMP Negeri 10 Yogyakarta. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah lembar penilaian oleh ahli materi, lembar penilaian oleh ahli media, lembar penilaian oleh guru, dan lembar respon oleh siswa. Karakteristik-karakteristik yang dihasilkan dari pengembangan media pembelajaran berbasis komputer ini adalah sebagai berikut: (1) tujuan pembelajaran jelas, (2) materi yang disajikan sesuai dengan kompetensi (KTSP 2006), (3) kebenaran konsep, (4) alur pembelajaran jelas, (5) petunjuk penggunaan jelas, (6) terdapat apersepsi, (7) terdapat kesimpulan, contoh, dan latihan yang disertai umpan balik, (8)mampu membangkitkan motivasi belajar siswa, (9) terdapat evaluasi yang disertai hasildan pembahasan, (10) memiliki intro yang menarik, (11) gambar, animasi, teks, warna tersaji serasi, harmonis, dan proporsional, (12) interaktif, (13) navigasi mudah, dan (14) bahasa yang digunakan mudah dipahami oleh siswa. Abstract

The study aims to find out pseudo-thinking in solving mathematical problems. The methods used in this study are qualitative descriptive. The research subject is junior high school students using the purposive sampling technique, the students are grouped into three ranks i.e. low, medium and high rankings which each ranked 3 students as respondents. The total number of respondents was 9 students. Data collection techniques using tests, interviews, and documentation. From the results of the study gained that: 1) students who are ranked low in solving mathematical problems are experiencing pseudo-analytic or pseudo-false, 2) students who are in the moderate level also experience pseudo-analytic or pseudo-incorrect, 3) students who are in high ranking experience pseudo-analytic and pseudo-4) students who experience pseudo-thinking choose procedures using their own reasoning and convince it as a correct understanding , so there is no attempt to re-examine what he has done

Abstract

This study is aimed to describe how the efectivenees of PBL to develope mathematical problem solving skill in inferensia statistics learning. This study was a quasi experiment conducted on the odd semester in the academic year of 2014/2015. The research population was all the 3th semester of mathematics education department, Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto ion inferensia statistics topic. From the population, two classes were selected as the sample. The selected classes were Class III B and Class III C. Class III B dealt with the PBL, and class III B dealt with the direct instruction. The instrument to collect the data was an essay test to measure the mathematical communication and problem solving skills. Kolmogorove-smirnov test was used to test the normality of the data and to homogenity test using Levene’s Test. The data were analyzed using independent t-test. The results of the study show that PBL efective to develope mathematical problem solving skill of the 3th semester of mathematics education department student, Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto in inferensia statistic learning. Abstract

This research aimed to describe students' mathematical creative thinking ability at SMPNegeri 1 Sumbang. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research. The subjects ofthis research were the students Grade VII G of SMP Negeri 1 Sumbang. The samples weretaken using purposive sampling technique. The data were collected using questionnaire, test,interview, and documentation. The data validity test used in this research was triangulation.The results of this research illustrate that: 1) Low category students could meet one indicatorof mathematic creative thinking ability i.e. fluency. Their learning motivation was good. Theypreferred to learn in a group. They were enthusiastic when they were given awards during theinstruction. 2) Medium category students could meet two indicators of mathematic creativethinking ability i.e. fluency and flexibility. Their learning motivation was very good. Theywere active during the instruction and they preferred to work autonomously. They sometimesreviewed the lesson that had been learned at school. 3) High category students could mastermathematic creative thinking ability i.e. fluency and flexibility. Their learning motivation wasvery good. When they met hard questions, they would try to solve the problems well. Duringthe instruction, they were active and they preferred to work autonomously.KEY WORDS: Mathematical Creative Thinking, Learning Motivation

Abstract

This study aimed to describe students' analogical reasoning in SMP Negeri 1 Ajibarang viewed from personality types in the material of Three-Dimensional Shapes with Flat surfaces. Data subjects in this study were students of class VIII E and the sample was taken using purposive sampling technique. Students are grouped into three categories based on David Keirsey personality types namely rational, artisan, and guardian personality. Data were collected through tests, interviews, and documentation. To analyze the research data descriptive qualitative research method which included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion was used.  In addition, echnical triangulation test was employed as a validation test of the results.  The results indicated that, based on analogical reasoning ability, it was seen that rational students mastered all indicators of analogical reasoning ability, i.e. encoding, inferring, mapping, and applying. Students with artisan personality type mastered the encoding indicator only. And guardian students were able to master the encoding, inferring and applying indicator.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the description of Mathematic Combinatory Thiking Ability of the Students. This is a descriptive qualitative research. The subject of the research was the students of Grade XI.MIA-5 SMAN 5 Purwokerto. The technique of the data collection in this research was by test, interview and documentation. The result of the students’ mathematic combinatory thinking ability was grouped in 3, namely the high, middle, and low. Each group was taken 3 as the respodents. The result of the research showed that mathematic combinatory thinking ability of the high could understand the problem faced and started to find the possibility of answering the correct answer, find all possible answers correctly, and able to solve more than one combinatory problem in one single mechanism. The students’ mathematic combinatory thinking ability of the middle could understand the problem faced and started to find the possibility of answering the correct answer, find all possible answers correctly. Then, the students’ mathematic combinatory thinking ability of the low could only understand the problem faced and started to find the possibility of answering the correct answer.
