Abstract

Regional autonomy policy has been implemented since 2001, but in 2013 as many as 66.67 percent of districts in West Sumatra still categorized as a relatively underdeveloped region by the Ministry of Development Underdeveloped regions. This indicates the occurrence of inequality considerable development in the Province of West Sumatra. This study not only examines the degree of inequality between regions, but also analyze the impact of GDRP per capita, the growth of the Human Development Index, and the Ratio of Infrastructure Expenditure against the inequalities based on economic position (the pattern and structure of economic growth). Analysis of the data use the Index Williamson and panel data regession from 2005 to 2012. The results showed disparity of regional development in the Provinces of West Sumatra increasing. Simultaneously and partially three independent variables (GDRP per capita, the growth of the Human Development Index, the Ratio of Infrastructure Expenditure) significant and positive influence as a major source of regional disparities in the Province of West Sumatra.Regional autonomy policy has been implemented since 2001, but in 2013 as many as 66.67 percent of districts in West Sumatra still categorized as a relatively underdeveloped region by the Ministry of Development Underdeveloped regions. Abstract

The increase in per capita income and rapid urbanization, have contributed significantly to changes in consumption behaviour leading to increased waste generation.  Waste disposed to landfill sites is fast becoming unfeasible thus requiring a more effective management of waste material involving waste reduction, reuse and recycling. The success of recycling program, however, is largely dependent on household participation activities which are essentially behaviour driven. The recycling performance of Malaysian households is still low as it stands at 5.5% compared to Singapore and Vietnam which are 56% and 22% respectively. This study examines recycling behaviour among households and the influence of socioeconomic, demographic and behavioural characteristics on households’ participation in recycling program in Malaysia.  A sample of 300 randomly selected household were surveyed.  The findings revealed that most of the households (70%) claim that they are practicing recycling particularly types of paper and old clothes. The factors of participation in recycling show equal results both for environmental concerns and economic benefits. Those who did not participate in recycling, listed household issues or behaviour, namely lack of time and materials to recycle, inconvenient, lack of space, lack of facilities and information as well as laziness, as barriers. The paper finally highlights the factors which can encourage household to be involved in recycling and give recommendations to the authorities in terms of facilities and infrastructures to facilitate the program.

Abstract

More than 110 millions Indonesian peoples lives in coastal areas and small islands which is highly affected by natural disaster such as volcanic and tectonic earthquake(Dahuri,R.2001). Around 400,000 from total population of 850,000 peoples in Padang, lives in the coastal area(Rencana Strategis Wilayah Pesisir dan Laut Kota Padang, 2007). Based on the above facts, this research try to create mitigation model in Padang City’s coastal areas through community participations against tsunami, coastal abrasion, earthquake and high/low tide with case study in Kelurahan Pasie Nan Tigo, Kecamatan Koto Tangah. Active participations by the community  to create disaster mitigation model in coastal area are needed because the community’s knowledge of their day to day problems related to natural disaster could pro-actively minimize the impact of the disaster which probably occur in their living area

Abstract

The development is related to various aspects covering political, socio-cultural, technological, economic, and physicalaspects (Yunus, 2000:107). Mutual development of a city indeed influences the development itself. As in Yogyakarta, its role astourism and education destination influences the city development. Urban development, city role, and urbanization are closely relatedwhich then affect the social values of the community. The method used in this study is rationalistic qualitative utilizing thepower of reason as the source of analytical capability in the whole process of the research. This research requires deep and detailanalysis yet thorough and holistic. The result of this study is the pattern of public space based on the lifestyle characteristic of thestudents undergoing development due to social process and influence of westernization and modernization. This proves that based onvalue system, students are open toward foreign culture. Moreover, this influences the activities which prompt them to follow thetrend. Consequently, it affects the demand of space to accommodate their interest to show their existence.

Abstract

Decentralization policy in Indonesia gives development authority at local government level which cause fragmentation among regions. On the other hand, there are some government affairs that need to be managed jointly between several regions, so that inter-regional cooperation is necessary. Greater Bandung Metropolitan has rapid development from Bandung City to regions arround it. With the increasing of activity rate, good infrastructure planning including transportation system planning are needed. Decision making in planning implies many considerations, so that transaction cost such as information, negotiation, enforcement, and agency were involved. For the purpose of increasing public services, study of inter-regional collaboration models are needed. Based on the analysis, found that there are factors that will cause transaction costs such as unequal distribution of information, conflict of interest, actor who dominates, and lack of commitments of stakeholders. Then the results obtained that the model that appropriate to applied in Greater Bandung Metropolitan is jointly-formed authority, which is an institution consisting of representatives from each local governments and has the authority to execute policy in particular sector.

Abstract

Indramayu regency has a great potential in renewable fisheries. It is expected that this fisheries subsector continues to grow and become a strategic sector in the development of Indramayu regency. The objectives of this research were: (1) to identify the role of the fisheries subsector in the economy of the region and its links with other sectors in Indramayu regency, (2) to learn about the level of development of the regional development of fisheries sub-sector in Indramayu regency based on the conditions of facilities and infrastructure, and (3) to find out the perception of stakeholders in determining development priorities for the fisheries sub-sector as well as to formulate a strategic direction in the development of the fisheries subsector in Indramayu regency. Input-Output analysis showed that the fisheries subsector had not been included in the strategic sector because it had weak inter-sectoral linkages and low multiplier effects of the total economy in Indramayu Regency compared to other economic sectors. Schallogram analysis showed that six sub-districts in the region of hierarchy III were feasible to develop. According to the stakeholders, the priority of fisheries subsector development in Indramayu Regency was the development of aquaculture activities (42.04 %) in terms of improving the quality of human resources (33.66 %). In the development strategy of the fisheries subsector of aquaculture activities in Indramayu regency, priorities should be in the development of existing resources (Natural Resources, Human Resources, Artificial Resource / Infrastructure, Institutional, Technology and Capital) to achieve sustainable development.
