Abstract

Alu Village is one of the villages in Polewali Mandar Regency, West Sulawesi Province. Alu Village has a bamboo forest covering an area of 18 ha. The existence of bamboo plants in Alu Village is very abundant, so bamboo leaf litter has the potential to be used as organic fertilizer. Most of the people of Alu Village make their living as farmers. Utilizing bamboo leaf litter into compost is a good alternative for the community. However, the lack of public knowledge regarding making compost means that many are still reluctant to use this fertilizer. This community service program aims to educate the public regarding the use of bamboo litter as compost and minimize bamboo litter waste in Alu Village. The method used is direct provision of materials and practice of making organic fertilizer from bamboo litter through the participation of active participants. The use of bamboo leaf litter as fertilizer, apart from utilizing waste, is also expected to have an influence on plant growth on agricultural land and plantations in local communities.

Abstract

The high interest of tourists in coral reef snorkeling activities on Gili Labak Island has resulted in considerable damage to the coral reef ecosystem and has the potential to reduce the income of the people of Gili Labak. The purpose of this activity is to provide understanding, outreach, and practice of coral reef rehabilitation using the bioreeftec method from coconut shell waste to tourists and local residents on Gili Labak Island. The realization of this counseling activity was carried out by referring to the root of the problems experienced by the coastal communities of Gili Labak Island, including: 1) The local coastal community has not been educated in preserving the coral reef ecosystem for the continuation of snorkeling tourism activities, 2) The low level of awareness of tourists regarding behavior that threatens the existence of coral reefs during snorkeling activities, 3) There is no concern from the local government regarding the provision of instructions and prohibitions on tourist activities that have the potential to damage coral reefs on the island of Gili Labak. An alternative solution to the problem is conducting counseling activities and coral reef rehabilitation practices on Gili Labak Island using the bioreeftec method from coconut shell waste. The results of coral reef rehabilitation counseling activities on Gili Labak Island showed that as many as 89% of the people of Gili Labak Island were interested in rehabilitating coral reefs to preserve the coral reef ecosystem on the island.

Abstract

Bath soap and electricity are people's daily needs. Skills in making bath soap and biobatteries (producing electricity) are expected to reduce public expenses every month. On the other hand, organic waste (pamelo orange peel) is found in Sunan Muria religious tourism area. This has the potential to be used as a basic ingredient for soap and bioelectricity because it is a natural ingredient that is safe to use. The target of this assistance is science teacher and MTs NU student Raden Umar. This is because students have knowledge of these basic materials obtained from learning science but cannot process them into useful products. This successfully made product can later be used by family members of the student. This mentoring activity consists of stages of preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Interviews and documentation are conducted at each stage, then analyzed descriptively. The results obtained through this assistance are: 1) the students have been able to make soap and biobatteries well despite the obstacles in using practicum tools and 2) the madrasah is satisfied with the implementation of this mentoring activity. The follow-up of this activity is the madrasah compiling an extracurricular activity program containing research activities based on local potential in the Kudus area. In addition, Tadris IPA IAIN Kudus became an expert staff in the organizational structure of these extracurricular activities.
