LOCAL WISDOM is a scientific journal in the field of Architecture and the City as a "bridge" between the disciplines of architecture and urban planning and design studies.This scientific journal focusing on research relating to the study of local wisdom. Local knowledge is a potential local characteristic based on a local culture that has been a tradition in public life. A form of local wisdom studies varied widely, ranging from a cultural value system, social system to the physical manifestation of culture in the form of local knowledge, local technologies, as well as the physical form of the built environment. Studies of local wisdom is an effort in order to realize the harmony of the city environment, and sustainable through the use and development of local knowledge, contextual and a participatory approach.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe city of Batu is one of the colonial cities with enormous historical significance. There are several heritage objects in the past that have become the city's cultural heritage. Jalan Panglima Sudirman is one of the corridors having the most heritage, namely in form of historic buildings. The appearance of historic buildings often gives an interesting visual impression on a street corridor. This study was to determine the effect of visual elements on the facade of historical buildings based on people's perceptions. Using quantitative methods, data was collected through field surveys combined with questionnaires. Respondents were randomly selected in the street corridor. Based on public perception, it has been shown that the appearance of the facade of a historic building is moderate to good. The architectural style and shape of the of historical buildings’ facade are the most influential elements playing an important role. These results were expected to be able to help the community and government in the effort to develop the historic area. DOI: https://doi.org/10.26905/lw.v11i2.3004

Abstract

Traditional architecture Bena has its own peculiarities and characteristics both in architectural form and in philosophy were conceived shape of the building and have a close relationship with the social and cultural setting. Characteristics of a building can sort by typology. Elements of traditional architecture can be a characteristic of the region. Making an area and remind the person or people in a given environment. Traditional building custom homes Bena community is one manifestation of which is concrete. The research method is qualitative descriptive. The purpose of this study was to determine the typology of traditional settlements Bena an attempt inventory and documentation of traditional architecture Bena. From the result of this writing, there are two forms of the observation that in macro and micro. Macro is the place to stay for people Bena while micro elements supporting the settlements and other facilities. Results of this paper show that there are two types of observations in traditional architecture itself, namely: In the macro, Sa, Pu Saka o, u, Sa, o Saka Lobo, Sa, while the micro-o Kaka is Ture Ago-Ngadha, Peo, Ngadhu, Bagha, Ture, Kapela and Gua maria. DOI: https://doi.org/10.26905/lw.v11i2.2980

Abstract

Bergenbuurt area in Malang city has cultural heritage such as ancient buildings that have a colonial architectural style with the distinctive facade. Malang City Government itself has set this area as an area of cultural heritage so the existence, identity and image of the area could be maintained. This study is an advanced study of Antariksa et al (2004) conducted at the study area with a focus on the preservation of the buildings. The study showed some buildings that are considered to have the authenticity of a unique design and create the character of the area. This advanced study aims to identify the typology and morphology of the building that has been considered by previous researchers can create/influence the character / visual quality of the area. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods of data analysis. Primary data obtained by field surveys on buildings based on the results of previous research. Building condition data from previous research is secondary data that is used to conduct study morphology of the building. Abstract

The Kayu Tangan Street Corridor is one of the areas that play an important role for Malang City. Building facade in this road corridor has significance in creating the visual character of Malang. The facade is an important architectural element of buildings because it can show the function and the significant meaning of the building. This study aims to determine how to classify the type of facade of the existing building in Street Corridor of Kayu Tangan that will affect the visual quality of this area. This study used a qualitative approach and descriptive-explorative methods. Selection of the sample was done by purposive sampling methods based on the buildings function. Abstract

Renovation activities can improve quality or even reduce the quality of a building due to the loss of special elements in the building. One of the element in a building that can give special features to an architectural work is ornament. The aim of this study was to identify ornamental design principles that can be found in several works of Mangunwijaya and their application to the buildings of the Santo Albertus Church in Jetis Yogyakarta. This research using descriptive methods through case studies in the field with analysis through qualitative methods. The methods of retrieving data through direct observation and documentation and supported by literature studies. The results of this study indicate that the ornaments on the Santo Albertus Church has flora and fauna motifs that are made in a combination style and have a style of contemporary ornaments, and the ornaments that are made have a propensity to affect the spirit of the space. Based on these results, it is expected to be a suggestion and consideration for the renovation activities that are currently being carried out, especially in understanding the use and meaning of the ornament, so the building of the Church of Santo Albertus Jetis did not lose the identity. DOI: https://doi.org/10.26905/lw.v11i2.2930

Abstract

The Patirtan site is a legacy of the ancient Singhasari kingdom in Malang, has a high historical value. The existence of the Patirtan site is related to the source of holy water (amerta), and is considered sacred by the community. The use and development of the Patirtan site has tended to be partial and contrary to the concept of conservation. The revitalization of Patirtan site in Malang is the use of historical heritage in the form of bathing pools, for religious self-cleaning activities. Spiritual tourism activities, as a form of human relations with God, through traditional rituals, occur at the sites of temples and Patirtan in Malang, East Java. Spiritual tourism actors in several Patirtan sites in the Malang region are the preserver of the Nusantara culture, originating from Java and Bali. This revitalization study, carried out by descriptive method, through fact-finding with proper interpretation of people's attitudes, people's spiritual behavior and phenomena on the Patirtan site. There are three cases of Patirtan site in Malang, which is quite significant to be used as a spiritual tourism destination, namely Sumberawan Temple, Patirtan Watugede and Widodaren water source. Through historical studies, exploring ritual activities at Patirtan sites in Malang, then analyzing the physical character and function of Patirtan's sites, the concept of revitalization was then formulated. DOI: https://doi.org/10.26905/lw.v11i2.2954

Abstract

Riverside settlements in Banjarmasin City can be classified as a part of vernacular architecture, this classification was made by the initial researchers. This classification underlying the research about architecture style in one of the riverside settlements in Banjarmasin City which still has strong riverside culture, the focus point of this research is at the riverside settlements of Bromo Island Delta, Mantuil, Banjar Selatan subdistrict, Banjarmasin City. The determination of this assessments refers to vernacular architecture style using a qualitative research method and purposive sampling technique. From 25 samples, we found 2 styles of architecture on the riverside settlements in Bromo Island Delta. They are vernacular architecture and semi vernacular architecture style. Addition of space function, the change of foundation structure and material, economy and community knowledge about recent technology are the development factors of vernacular houses changes into semi vernacular houses. DOI: https://doi.org/10.26905/lw.v11i2.2961
