Abstract

The 21st century technology and communication advancement require teachers to use learning media in Android-based smart books. This study aims to develop android-based biology learning media on mushroom material and test the feasibility of learning media developed according to media experts and material experts. The development employs used the ADDIE model by Lee & Owen, which consists of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and evaluation stages. The product was tested by students of class X SMK-SPP Negeri 3 Kerinci and assessed by media experts and content experts. Their responses were collected through a questionnaire. The results of this study are learning media in the form of an Android-based mushroom smart book made in the Android Package (.apk) format using Adobe Flash Professional CS6 software. The product is attractive, practical, and easily accessible. The product is suitable used in learning based on the media expert's assessment of 94% and the material expert's assessment of 96.3% (very feasible category)

Abstract

The 2013 curriculum emphasizes character in every learning. One effort to shape students' character of discipline, honesty, curiosity, independence, and responsibility is the internalization of character values ​​in the learning of Physics Practicum. This study aims to describe the internalization of the character values ​​of students at MAN Insan Cendikia Jambi. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method through observation, self-assessment, and interviews of six students of class XI consisting of three female students (S1W, S2W, and S3W) and three male students (S4L, S5L, and S6L). The results showed that the six students experienced internalization of character values ​​by accepting and carrying out the practicum. Moreover, students with high disciplinary characters also had high responsibility characters, while students with low disciplinary characters also had low responsibility characters.

Abstract

The character of students, in general, is still not well developed. We need teaching material for LKPD (Student Worksheet) enriched with character values. This study aims to produce character-based LKPD adopted from quantum teaching and determine teachers' and students' feasibility and responses to the LKPD. This study uses the ADDIE development model, which consists of five stages. LKPD was validated by the material validator three times with a final score of 56 and a response value of 87.5% (excellent category), while the media validator twice with a final score of 64 and a response value of 100% (excellent category). Furthermore, two teachers carried out practitioner validation with an average score of 80.5 and a response value of 87.5% (the product is feasible to be tested and applied in learning). One-on-one trials with three students as the subject got a score of 166 and a response value of 86.5% (excellent category). The small group trial with nine subjects scored 289, and the response value was 89.2% (excellent category). The study concludes that the LKPD based on quantum teaching can be used in class VII SMP learning.

Abstract

Media is one of the essential components in learning to reach the highest learning outcomes. Therefore, teachers should create and utilize media in every learning process. This study aimed to develop an e-practicum manual based on guided inquiry class material for grade VII students of junior high school. The manual was developed using the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). Data were collected using questionnaire of media experts, material experts, and teacher and student perception questionnaires. This research was conducted at state junior high school 2 Jujuhan Bungo Regency Jambi Province. This study shows that the instructional e-practicum manual based on inquiry is considered interesting and suitable for learning.

Abstract

The learning activities at SMPN Satu Atap 3 Tungkal Ulu still lack in training students to be active in the learning process so that students' learning outcomes are not optimal. This study aims to improve student learning outcomes by applying the Experiential Learning model. This study also observes the atmosphere of the learning environment that helps the application of the Experiential Learning model in improving student learning outcomes. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (PTK) guided by the Kemmis and Mc Taggart model, which consists of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. This study involved students of class VIIA SMPN Satu Atap 3 Tungkal Ulu. The data was collected employing observation sheets and analysis of learning outcomes tests. The results showed that the application of the Experiential Learning model could improve student learning outcomes. A comfortable, safe, and fun learning environment is also a determining factor for students to learn more actively, which will help improve student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Transformation of the traditional sciences into a scientific knowledge of traditional jamu production by local community of Cilacap, Center Java, has been studied. The research was intended to transfrom the original science of Jawa community into scientific knowledge. The output of the research is a set of scientific kenowledge as a result of reconstruction of the original sciences of Jawa community, i.e. in processing traditional Jamu, and it can be used by science teachers as a learning source or a contextual model of teaching in a classroom activities. This research is a descriptive-qualitative research, and the researchers were involved directly in collecting data, i.e. observation, interview, discussion, and collection of informations and documents. The data were analysed, verified, transformed into scientific knowledge, and interpreted to obtain the meaningful information. Focus of the research is a tradition of Cilacap community in producing traditional Jamu, including the production process, types of jamu and its effect to human health. The research concludes that traditional science producing traditional jamu can be transformed into a set of scientific knowledge.

Abstract

In classical learning approach, conventional lecture method is commonly used by teachers in implementing learning process in classes.  The teacher becomes the main source of learning.  The current student’s habit that tends to be passive and individualistic resulted in a passive and monotone learning.      To overcome these problems, I was interested to implement the model of numbered heads together in learning Physics in the Class VII B of SMP Negeri 5 Kota Jambi. The purpose of this learning approach is to enable students to develop cooperative skill and more active learning of physics and to improve learning results. This research is a class action research, which were performed in two cycles.  All students’ activities in the class were observed and recorded in observation sheet, consisting of teacher observation sheet and student observation sheet. To find out the learning outcomes, formative test was performed using a written instrument form.  The results show the increase of students’ discipline, cooperation, liveliness, timeliness in learning Physics.  In addition, the learning model also increases the students’ learning outcomes. The average learning results increased to 75.38 (increase 3.25 points).  To conclude, the implementation of Number Head Together increase students’ discipline, cooperation, activities, and timeliness.  The model also increase the Physics learning outcome of student in SMP Negeri 5 Kota  Jambi.

Abstract

Reproductive health is a major problem that occurs in Indonesian adolescents. The problem is caused by some factors, including free sex that could induce reproductive organ diseases such as cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, vulvar cancer, uterine cancer, prostate cancer and sexually transmitted diseases. Incidence of various reproductive health problems is caused by a lack of knowledge about reproductive health. This issue needs to get attention from various parties, including teachers. However, some teachers are less understood about how to deliver reproductive health materials properly. This study aims to determine knowledge and attitudes of teacher candidates about reproductive biology. This study is a descriptive analytic study. The subjects were students of biology education at Jambi University who are in 5th and 7th semesters of academic year 2011/2012 (174 students).  The data was collected using tests and questionnaires. The results show that knowledge of the biology teacher candidates about the reproductive health is categorized as low (43​​%).  The attitude of biology teacher candidates about reproductive biology is classified as positive (64%). The formation of attitudes toward reproductive health is influenced by several factors including knowledge, experience, guidance from parents, social environment, mass media, cultural, and social institutions.

Abstract

Internet blog can be utilized to assist learning in the classroom. The effectiveness of blog in learning was studied through a class room action research by using Jig Saw learning model. The results show that teachers' use of blogs in guiding the work of students in observing human sense through a model of Jig Saw can raise the average value of the working group from 68 to 83 (21% increase). Blog also helps the group work of below average students, indicated by the value of Q1 which is increased from 61 to 80 (31%). Individual use of sense learning material in blog also helps students understand the learning concepts, process skills, and apply them in everyday life, especially in keeping the senses healthy. The results of individual evaluation showed an increase from 68 to 81.

Abstract

Classroom action research by applying the Jigsaw learning model was conducted in learning of Mathematics in class X of SMAN 8 Jambi in the second semester of 2012. The results show that the Jigsaw learning model enhanced students’ motivation on the concept of comparison of trigonometric functions from 40% to 66%. The Jigsaw learning model also enhances the degree of student learning completeness on the comparative trigonometric functions concept by 31%. In addition the Jigsaw model also boosted students’ competence in terms of comparison of trigonometric functions from 45 to 70 after the class action research.
