Abstract

Sahabat Ternak is one of the Etawah crossbreed (PE) goat farm groups in Sleman. This farm group focuses on goat milk production and processed goods. Problems that commonly arise in dairy goat farms are the cases of subclinical mastitis, which are quite high. This disease may cause a decrease in milk production and quality. The mastitis subclinical detection method which is often used by the farming community is the somatic cell count (SCC) and California mastitis test (CMT). However, both tests have low accuracy. Recently, a new method named GAMA Anti-Haptoglobin, which is more accurate and can be done easily has been established by livestock farmers. This community service aims to empower livestock farmers in applying GAMA Anti-Haptoglobin as a sensitive, rapid, and accurate subclinical mastitis detection kit in Sahabat Ternak goat farm. The method used in this activity consisted of discussion, socialization, and training for livestock farmers, as well as laboratory testing, evaluation of test findings, and treatment for PE goats. After the training, the livestock farmers were able to apply GAMA Anti-Haptoglobin mastitis detection method effectively. The implementation of this easy and accurate field mastitis detection method, as well as personnel with reliable skills, will support in the decrease of mastitis cases and increase milk production and quality, as well as community welfare.

Abstract

Non-Communicable Disease is a chronic disease that tends to last a long time and can cause death. It can cause individuals to become less productive. However, controlling risk factors through early detection can prevent these problems. At this time, early detection is mostly carried out at the village / health facilities level, not yet at work / institutional level. Bondowoso Campus Jember University is one of the largest educational institutions in the BASUKI RAYA area, which has many employees, and an average age of over 20 years, which is the productive age group. Early detection through Non-Communicable Disease screening activities is important in preventing and reducing morbidity and mortality due to the disease. This activity is also useful in regularly monitoring the health of employees and also minimizing lost opportunities for employees to carry out early detection of diseases due to examinations. Methods of this activity include counseling, early detection of PTM as well as counseling and counseling based on screening results. Data analysis were performed using univariate and bivariate. Different test was performed using Wilcoxon with a level of ɑ = 0.05. The results showed that there was an increase in employee knowledge regarding non-communicable diseases and how to prevent them. (p = 0.03, sig <0.05).

Abstract

During the dry season, most of the springs in Jatimulyo Village deliver less water. This condition causes difficulties for people in the area. Only two springs supply sufficient water for distribution. Therefore, it is necessary to optimize the water distribution from the two springs, Mudal and Sumitro. This study aims to provide an alternative technical plan for the distribution of domestic water and to provide recommendations in the distribution and regulation of the use of water from the Mudal and Sumitro springs to the local authority and community in Jatimulyo Village. The distribution system relies on gravity so that it does not require any pump. This study has conducted using the hydraulic equation for water flow through a pipe to analyze the design water discharge required for each reservoir. For water distribution planning, counting the number of houses that will be served was conducted using Google Earth imagery. The results of this study indicate that from the Mudal spring, water distribution pipelines can cover 282 houses, with a total required water discharge of 1,632 liters/second. For the Sumitro spring, the first alternative scheme can serve 161 houses and requires 0.932 liters/second water discharge. As for the second alternative, it is estimated to be able to serve 138 houses with a total required water discharge of 0.799 liters/second. It is necessary to measure all spring discharge every month. It will help determining the fluctuation of the discharge of each spring.

Abstract

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) caused by SARS-COV-2 has a very high transmission rate and can potentially cause deaths. This disease is a great public health concern globally and considered as humanitarian disaster. Person-to-person transmission of COVID-19 occurs through close contact and droplets. Therefore, the preventions should be done through wearing masks, hand washing with soap, and social distancing. The spreading of misinformation causes a low level of public awareness. It will increase the risk of spreading the disease. This community service aims to increase public knowledge about the prevention and expansion of the COVID-19 disease. One hundred target households were visited and educated during the service. We have also distributed 250 masks and 500 leaflets and put up banners in open places containing what and how to prevent COVID-19. Installation a portable hand washing sink with soap was also carried out to reduce transmission risks. Dissemination of valid information must be carried out to change people’s behaviors. The involvement of all elements of society are needed to create a new normal era of life.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic severely affect the economic sector especially on food security and purchasing power. Based on the program in 2019 and 2020, it has been found that jawa super hen can lay up to 20- 25 eggs/hen/month with good maintenance and feeding. This study aimed to solved the food security problem in Ngoro-oro village by educating the villagers about how to market their jawa super chicken eggs as an effort to improve the economic standard of the community. The activity was carried out for 7 months included producing alternative chicken feed using black soldier fly larvae, post-harvesting management, and evaluating consumer egg preference survey using google form which spread randomly over some different communities to determine the best promotional strategy. The Ngoro-oro villagers eagerly attended both of the trainings. Some of them even succeeded in developing maggot from the black soldier fly which can be used to produce as an alternative feed for poultry. We got 126 respondents from the consumer egg preference survey. We found that around 60% respondents prefer to consume medium size egg, light to dark brown egg and around 80% respondents are interested to try consuming jawa super eggs. Most of the respondents prefer simple and easy to read label as well as carton-based packaging for the eggs. Collecting all the information together, we found that jawa super eggs may have potency to be sell in the market as medium size brown eggs supported by a good brand, packaging, and promotion strategy.

Abstract

The purpose of this KKN activity is to improve the religious experience of the community in order to support spiritual quality and at the same time foster motivation in solving various life problems through a religious approach. Based on the survey and situation analysis, the following problems can be identified: 1) The people of the Tambang Village have minimal religious knowledge, because the number of religious teachers is still lacking. 2) The education level of the younger generation is low, because the interest and ability to continue to a higher level of education is lacking. 3) Agricultural and livestock products are abundant but selling prices are low due to the lack of marketing strategies. As a result, the income of the population is low. The general assumption of this KKN activity is that the target community of KKN will be empowered by the KKN programs offered. The KKN activity program includes: (1) in the religious field, KKN participants provide examples and guidance to the younger generation to become imams of Fardu prayers and tarawih prayers in mosques and musalla (prayer rooms), provide guidance and role models after the tarawih prayers and dawn prayers, provide training and role models to become Friday prayer preacher, providing training on teaching reading and writing of the Qur’an at the TPA. 2) in the field of education, KKN participants motivate the younger generation to continue their education to the tertiary level, 3) in the economic field, provide training on processing fresh cow’s milk into cakes, and provide training on marketing and packaging methods of agricultural products.

Abstract

Oyster mushroom cultivation is one solution for improving a community’s economy. In mushroom cultivation, is necessary to pay attention to various things that support the success of its production. The success of the production of seeds and bag logs of oyster mushrooms is an indicator of feasibility in this business. Success in production can be judged from a large amount of production enabled by hyalinizing the risk of failure. The parameters of the feasibility or success of the business require a cost analysis that is appropriate to the conditions and needs. One of the farmer groups that carry out mushroom cultivation business is Ganda Mandiri Farmer Group in Sukamanah Village, Ciamis Regency. The purpose of this community service was to increase the target farmers’ understanding and improve their skills in mushroom cultivation and determine the feasibility of oyster mushroom cultivation for the farmer group. The methods used during this activity were interviews and direct observation of the farmer group’s business activities. After the counseling and training, it was found that the farmer group’s members showed a significant increase in their skills, especially in making seeds. This farmer group could produce as many as 7,200 bag logs within 4 weeks. The result of the analysis of the R/C ratio was 2.51. The results of the cost analysis could be used as an indicator of the feasibility for a business, and the oyster mushroom cultivation business run by Ganda Mandiri Farmer Group was said to be feasible and profitable.

Abstract

Pharmacists have the responsibility to ensure that medicines are obtained, used, stored, and disposed in the best and safest way particularly by a vulnerable population such as children. Pharmacists should adapt to a child’s level of health understanding to engage children in medication education. Therefore, a pharmacist-led program tailored to children in community settings was initiated in two elementary schools in Gresik, SD Muhammadiyah 1 Gresik and SD Muhammadiyah Manyar. An animated film Apoteker Cilik was shown to students of grade 4, 5, and 6 to promote the proper management of medications in line with the national campaign DAGUSIBU and to acquaint with the roles of pharmacists. A short questionnaire consisting of six questions related to medication use and safety (how to get, use, store, and dispose medicines) was utilized to assess the level of children’s knowledge. There was a significant difference between levels of knowledge before and after the program (p < 0.05) although some schoolchildren already had good baseline knowledge of medications. This local initiative may contribute to improving medication awareness, so more educational programs using colourful visuals and interactive games may be conducted with this vulnerable population as children will bring their medication-taking behaviour throughout their adult lives.

Abstract

In Indonesia, the number of inmates increases almost every year. On the other hand, the Indonesian government is often faced with a limited number of existing prison facilities, including mental health services. Many cases of mental disorders in inmates are not treated, and their conditions even get worse. This program aimed to develop a mental health service program for inmates with individual counseling and supportive group therapy combined with the dhikr therapy in one of the prisons in Indonesia. Data were collected using questionnaires, interviews, and Focus Group Discussions (FGD). Questionnaires and interviews were conducted with the inmates, while the FGDs were conducted with psychologists. Data were analyzed descriptively for questionnaires and thematic analysis for interviews and FGDs. Based on the data collected, as many as 34 inmates used individual counseling services with a total of 50 visits. The data shows that the problems consulted in the form of family problems (59%), problems with partners (20%), prison environment problems (6%), fear of being released (6%), self-esteem problems (6%), and problems about a job (3%). The results of data analysis showed that the inmates feel that psychological interventions in prison were beneficial. Both inmates who had attended individual counseling and supportive group therapy combined with the dhikr therapy felt its benefits in overcoming the psychological problems. This study suggests that mental health services in prisons need to be an area of concern, considering the urgent needs in prisons.

Abstract

Kampong Tridi and Warna-Warni are two small communities in Malang, Indonesia, which have started efforts to realize a sustainable environment within a broader national movement to eliminate slum areas. Colourful artwork and painted murals have made them popular tourist spots that attract 150 tourists per day on average, which helps boost the local economy. However, both kampongs are still lacking sanitation service. Blackwater and greywater generated from inhabitants’ activities are directly dumped into the Brantas River, negatively impacting water quality. A workshop was organized to increase the participants’ awareness of environmental issues, particularly in water resource sustainability, and obtain a commitment to adopt constructed wetlands as sustainable, nature-based solutions for wastewater treatment. Two types of the questionnaire (pretest and posttest) were distributed to 50 participants to identify perception differences generated through the workshop. A digital game and a 3D simulation were developed to educate the participants on constructed wetlands as wastewater treatment systems in fun, attractive, and effective ways. Participants’ awareness of environmental issues in water resources increased from 67% to 76%, and the workshop had motivated the participants to adopt constructed wetlands in their neighbourhood.
