Abstract

This article examines the factors that led to Agus Sulistiyono's defeat in the 2019 Legislative Elections in the DIY electoral district. These factors are seen with three-dimensional indicators of the power cube theory: visible power, hidden power, and invisible power. Methodologically, this article is the result of qualitative research with a case study approach. In data collection, the results of interviews are the main source to determine the factors that influence the defeat of candidates. This finding shows that there are three indicators. First, visible power which includes the campaign strategy carried out by Agus Sulistiyono using the party constitution route spreads throughout Yogyakarta and synergizes with DPRD candidates from the same party. Second, on the hidden power indicator, by obtaining support from the supporting political parties, as well as money politics practices. Third, there is support from religious leaders. Abstract This article tries to apply the concept of governmentality in Michael Foucault's perspective in analyzing the Family Planning discourse which began to be implemented in 1970, precisely under the "New Order" regime under President Suharto in Indonesia. This Governmental analysis tries to reveal the existence of efforts to regulate society and change their paradigm about child ownership which in the "Old Order" regime was fully supported by the government under President Soekarno. This paper finds that the initial initiation of the Family Planning program and the discourse of small happy and prosperous families is an attempt by the new regime to change their paradigm. This paper highlights how discourse is produced, how the process works and how the process is successful in controlling the Indonesian population Keywords: Keywords; Governmentality, Discourse on Happy and Prosperous Small Family, Family Planning Program, Postmodernism

Abstract

The making of regional budgets involves several actors who have an interest in the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD). The relationship between each actor forms a structured and systematic network and arranges strategies to accommodate the interests of actors in the APBD. This article aims to explain how the relationship between actors and budget politics forms interests in the making of the APBD. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive analysis type to describe the relationship of each actor by using actor-network theory and public policy. The results of the study found that the actors involved in the making of regional budgets were grouped into two, namely formal actors and informal actors. The main actors who dominate the making of regional budgets are the regional head as the highest decision holder and family relations as informal actors who influence decision making. Each actor forms a network to accommodate their interests in the APBD by strengthening their relationship with the highest decision-makers in regional budgeting. The strategy of actors in entering and guarding their interests in the APBD uses four political strategy frameworks, namely position strategy, power strategy, player strategy, and perception strategy. This article contributes to understanding that APBD budget politics cannot be separated from the role of formal actors and informal actors who have formed networks in guarding their respective interests.

Abstract

The Rifa'iyah Islamic Community was established by Kiai Ahmad Rifa'i since the Dutch colonial era. This community used the Javanese Book of Tarjumah Pegon as a means of confrontation against colonialism. This article elaborates Rifa’iyah’s political strategy and how this community keeps existing in the present era. The research has an objective to discuss this community’s political strategy, its existence and the dynamic as an Islamic community in Kudus. The paper uses interview as the main method, as well as observation and documentation using history analysis and accommodation theory. The findings of this research that at the starting point of Rifa'iyah community, it was rejected by residents because of differences in worship based on the teachings of the Book of Tarjumah, for example, praying only with fellow Rifa'iyah members, practicing wedding ceremony based on Rifa'iyah guidance, and only studying the book by Kiai Rifa'i. However, its existence is now accepted due to the accommodating strategy of Rifa'iyah pilgrims. Adaptive political efforts are carried out by the Rifa'iyah community in Kudus to exist and be accepted, for example, by doing proactive steps in the fields of government, social, and culture.

Abstract

Amin Tohari. Politik Sawit: Akses, Identitas dan Perubahan. Makassar: Carabaca, 2021. Pp: xx+196. ISBN: 978-623-95699-9-0. This article is a review of a book entitled Politik Sawit: Akses, Identitas dan Perubahan, written by Amin Tohari. The book on Politik Sawit is a good contribution to the development of political science in Indonesia. This book does not only look at oil palm in terms of economic profit and loss. Palm oil is also not sufficiently understood as a source of welfare or a contributor to the country's foreign exchange. Moreover, the book Politik Sawit succeeded in continuing an agrarian political discourse that made palm oil a battlefield of interest between various actors. The book on Politik Sawit shows that, once again, farmers are the target of exploitation from the agrarian system which is pro-business entrepreneurs with large capital. Therefore, this book can be used as a reference for academics who are pursuing the field of agrarian political studies. In addition, policymakers can also use this book to formulate fair palm oil industry policies for oil palm smallholders.
